Posted January 9, 200718 yr http://www.daytondragons.com/pressbox/pressrelease/index.html?article_id=236 DAYTON, OH --- The Dayton Dragons are pleased to announce that the first game to be played at Fifth Third Field in 2007 will not feature the Dayton Dragons; but rather, Fifth Third Field will play host to its first-ever Major League Baseball game featuring the Cincinnati Reds and the Florida Marlins right here in Downtown Dayton on Saturday, March 31, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. “On behalf of Mandalay Sports Entertainment and the Dayton Dragons, we are absolutely thrilled to be able to bring this historic, first-ever Reds game to be played in the Dayton Region to Fifth Third Field,” commented Dragons president, Robert Murphy. “We are very pleased to have come to an agreement with both the Reds and Marlins to host them right here in downtown Dayton for the absolute best fans in all of sports ... this will be a tremendous happening for our community.”
January 10, 200718 yr That's the last exhibition game of the season...great to see! Hope the weather holds up for it!
January 10, 200718 yr i always like the concept of playing the last exhibition game closer to home. Though with the upper midwest's weather at the turn of april, the players probably want to spend as much time as possible down south
January 10, 200718 yr Just to throw out a tidbit of information...The Reds actually played a regular season game in Hamilton against, I think, the Brooklyn Dodgers. It was due to some state wide regulation thing that was going on...and only the major cities were following the orders. But after the game started some official showed up and threatened to jail the team owners...or fine them or something. Anywho..I thought it was an interesting tidbit!

July 26, 200816 yr THIS WAS ABSOLUTELY CRAZY!!! Dayton beat the living sh!t out of the Chiefs though ... Good riddance! A minor league pitcher that throws a fastball into the stands (or unaware BB player) deserves to get his ass pounded. He could have taken hit life. Actually, I'm surprised it took this long for a post to show up on UO.
July 26, 200816 yr If this were in Cleveland fans would have littered the field with all kinds of debris...whatever they could get their hands on and throw. What a crazy scene though...I'm actually kind of surprised no fans ran onto the field after the ball came into the stands.
July 26, 200816 yr Actually, I'm surprised it took this long for a post to show up on UO. I was going to post it yesterday morning, but I was afraid someone would use it to make a smart remark about Dayton (still am).
July 26, 200816 yr How did 15 players get reinstated in the same game after being thrown out. They were allowed to finish the game. What a joke. Im glad Dayton didn't start this .; )
July 27, 200816 yr Im thinkin' congress should have looked into minor league baseball also, when they probed the MLB for 'roid madness.
July 27, 200816 yr ^Not sure how that's related, but since the MLB controls its minor leagues Congress did go after them by putting pressure on the MLB. There was a trickle down from there in terms of rules/regulations and what not.
July 27, 200816 yr It's related due to ROID RAGE! I assumed minor leagues would be less strict on drug tests but I don't know much about regulations in regard to that.
July 28, 200816 yr I went to the Dragons game this past saturday hoping to see another brawl of sorts but no luck. :P They did clean house though!
July 28, 200816 yr If this were in Cleveland fans would have littered the field with all kinds of debris...whatever they could get their hands on and throw. What a crazy scene though...I'm actually kind of surprised no fans ran onto the field after the ball came into the stands. except if this were in cleveland it would have been in eastlake. the battle royale was all over espn & the local nyc news that day too. i still don't get what happened. 'roids maybe added to summer heat sounds about right. it sure made for good video.
July 28, 200816 yr i love the guy who tried to throw at the dugout and completely missed....there's a reason you're still in the minors chief.
July 28, 200816 yr It's related due to ROID RAGE! I assumed minor leagues would be less strict on drug tests but I don't know much about regulations in regard to that. It's the opposite. The minor leagues have much tougher drug testing since they are NOT covered by the MLB union. MLB can pretty much write their own rules. I believe they even banned that nasty chewing tobacco in the minors. Something about cancer of the tongue, gums, jaw, etc.

The minor leagues have much tougher drug testing since they are NOT covered by the MLB union. MLB can pretty much write their own rules. I know I'm splitting hairs here, but there are people covered under the CBA in the minors. If you spend one day of service in the majors, you're covered by the union.
July 30, 200816 yr the battle royale was all over espn & the local nyc news that day too. ...this little thing made in to the news outside of Dayton (& I guess Peoria)?
July 30, 200816 yr ^^I don't know if that is really accurate. Minor league baseball has a large loyal following. I believe Dayton routinely sell out as does the Louisville RiverBats. They're big events in those cities. A lot people enjoy watching young players develop. I've gone to a few RiverBats' games, but I only go since their Reds-affiliated teams.
July 30, 200816 yr WHat the hell are you talking about? They are pissed off not at the fight, but the thrower of the ball that hit a fan and sent him or her to the hospital.
July 31, 200816 yr And God forbid people love their "Single A" Dayton Dragons. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
August 4, 200915 yr Pitcher convicted of assaulting fan with baseball in Dayton DAYTON -- A judge has convicted a minor-league pitcher of injuring a fan when he threw a baseball during an on-field melee in Dayton last year. Montgomery County Common Pleas Court Judge Connie Price found Julio Castillo guilty today of felonious assault causing serious physical injury. He was acquitted on a second charge of felonious assault with a deadly weapon. Twenty-two-year-old Castillo, of the Dominican Republic, was pitching for the Peoria Chiefs against the Dayton Dragons when the bench-clearing brawl broke out. Castillo threw a ball that gave a fan a concussion. During last month's trial, Castillo testified that he threw the ball downward toward a dugout to try to keep opposing players from rushing the field. He says he was not aiming at anyone. http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/sports/stories/2009/08/04/dragons.html?sid=101

July 28, 201113 yr Congrats to Dayton! Dayton Dragons Break All-Time Sellout Record for North American Professional Sports Dragons Sell Out Fifth Third Field for Historic 815th Consecutive Time 07/09/2011 - 10:17 PM ET DAYTON, OH - With its 815th consecutive sold-out crowd at Fifth Third Field, the Dayton Dragons today broke the all-time record for most consecutive home game sellouts. Founded in 2000, the Class-A Midwest League minor league baseball team and a Cincinnati Reds affiliate has sold out every home game for 11½ straight seasons and counting, breaking the 18-year old record of pro basketball's Portland Trailblazers (814, 1977-95). May 2, 201411 yr Report: Preliminary deal reached for sale of Dayton Dragons By Joe Cogliano, Senior Reporter Dayton Business Journal - April 25, 2014, 1:55pm EDT A preliminary deal has been reached for the sale of the Dayton Dragons, according to an article in Baseball America. The deal for the Dragons — in the possible $40 million range — would mark the highest figure ever paid for a minor league baseball team, the article says citing anonymous sources. Owner Mandalay Baseball is selling the Dragons, along with two other minor league teams. But the Dragons, the single A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds, are the real prize. The team — which owns the record for most-consecutive sellouts for any U.S. sports team — has brought nearly 8.2 million attendees since 2000, making it the largest attraction in Dayton. The Dragons have sold out nearly 1,000 games at the field, all of them since Fifth Third Field opened in 2000.
