Posted January 11, 200718 yr (Look Ma, no tripod!) Hello everyone. I seem to have devolved to a lurker, but I'm not dead yet! With a little inspiration taken from RiverViewer, I have made the leap to digital SLR. Got a Canon Digital Rebel XTi (aka 400D), the current entry-level camera from those good folks. Naturally I had to try it out once it arrived via UPS today. And it was too damn cold to do any real walking-around photography, so I just went for a couple of the usual angles on Dayton's skyline. (Well, let's be real- it was also too damn cold to be standing on a bridge for 45 minutes, but whatever.) Perhaps tomorrow's warmer weather will be suitable for happy photo time. Just thought I'd post a couple... Because I have to get a panorama everywhere I go, even when I already have two or three panoramas from the same spot. (Clicky if you like.) Sunset Pretty sky And then I have sixty shots that look pretty much like this one. Almost worth the frostbite!
January 11, 200718 yr You expect us to just welcome you back after all this time? :x To make over your photography with various pleasantries? To pat you on the back for your excellent work? Well, you are right. Those are beautiful shots! Excellent work!!
January 11, 200718 yr Just fantastic! Sunset, a city, and a river...what more could one ask for? ...and now I'm leaning towards an SLR as well...and after seeing these shots...say, do you have any of the originals on pbase? It'd be cool to see one of those skylines at its full resolution...
January 11, 200718 yr You expect us to just welcome you back after all this time? :x To make over your photography with various pleasantries? To pat you on the back for your excellent work? Not at all- spitting and throwing shoes would be fine! RV, here is the original of one of those (no room left on pbase!). The full resolution is not as impressive as one might like (although I suppose the fuzziness near the edges has to do with the lens), but even so you can shrink it down to a point where everything looks sharp and still have a pretty large picture.
January 11, 200718 yr Now that DSLRs are falling in price, I'm looking at making a purchase too. I'm stuck between the Digital Rebel and the Nikon D40. Any particular reason you went with the Canon?
January 11, 200718 yr Any particular reason you went with the Canon? Pretty much entirely because I have a Canon 35mm and already own several lenses which I can use with this one, too. (So I guess I can't help too much with your decision!)
January 11, 200718 yr Nice pics...oh and welcome back stranger! I really need a camera upgrade...ohh if I had money
January 11, 200718 yr In all honesty, these are some of the most beautiful shots I've seen of the Dayton Skyline. Thanks for sharing!

January 18, 200718 yr These are awesome. No offense to the Dayton folk, but I didn't know it could look so good. I also have a Rebel, based on a lot of friends experience with them. I don't have any extra lenses yet though unfortunately so I have to try my best and play with the stocker for now.
