February 6, 200718 yr ^i think its because you touch yourself at night. And how would you know that :wtf:
February 6, 200718 yr ^i think its because you touch yourself at night. Well, if I have to cut down on that for the sake of bringing the induction to town, so be it. Will someone check with the Rock Hall Foundation before I make the sacrifice, though?
February 8, 200718 yr Your answer lies in your earlier post 8shades. None of the music industry really wants to come here. While the excuses are numerous (lack of direct flights, luxury hotels), even if Cleveburg solved these problems the industry movers and shakers would find new excuses to replace them. The industry is centered in New York and LA. Attendees probably find it convenient to book hundreds of daily direct flights to NYC, choose from thousands of hotel options, and get other business done during the course of their visit for the ceremony.

February 10, 200718 yr ^bunch of BS Are you telling me football players are tripping overthemselves to get to Canton Baseball players to Cooperstown? It is not the artists, it is the NY board, always has been Agreed, but the lack of amenities in cleveland doesn't doesn't sit well either.
February 10, 200718 yr No, but obviously they aren't necessary for a major Hall of Fame induction ceremony, either.
February 10, 200718 yr No, but obviously they aren't necessary for a major Hall of Fame induction ceremony, either. I beg to differ. Working in entertainment, the people inducted, the sponsors, the promoter, the fans and various other guest want to go somewhere with "sex appeal". That is something Cleveland doesn't have. Why do you think places like Vegas and Miami are always throwing their hats into the ring to compete for awards shows. Also, those places have an "international" componet that Cleveland doesn't. Those ceremonies are so much more than just having people flying for a few days then flying out.
February 10, 200718 yr Are professional athletes much different, though? I would say yes. Look at all star weekends. If you look at cleveland last alstar weekend the biggest concern was "where are people going to be housed" and the amount of flights into Hopkins.
February 12, 200718 yr ^bunch of BS Are you telling me football players are tripping overthemselves to get to Canton Baseball players to Cooperstown? It is not the artists, it is the NY board, always has been Exactly the point I was trying to make Punch--it's the business side. I think an artist getting inducted would show up anywhere, much like the players going to Canton and Cooperstown. The difference here is it's the artists and industry execs who AREN'T getting inducted that would fail to attend. Let's face it, the music industry has always been about the party and, unlike pro sports, the party is very public.

Lets face it...nobody wants to party in a place where the club closes at 3AM. Or you can't hail a cab...or you can't get something to eat in the middle of the night...or .............
February 17, 200718 yr Yeah, I'm sure the Rolling Stones are going to be taking a cab around town. Anyway, aren't these events usually surrounded by private parties- at which the participants could party all night and eat at 5:00 AM? I don't see that as insurmountable with some planning.

February 17, 200718 yr attendees and fabulous people will be in the private parties and will come and go with limousines. Who cares about fans and groupies?
February 18, 200718 yr attendees and fabulous people will be in the private parties and will come and go with limousines. Who cares about fans and groupies? Let me ask this. Has anyone here ever planned an event of that magnitude? Or is aware of the basic necessities needed to pull of such an event? Some people seem to think its as easy as A-B-C.
February 18, 200718 yr Back to the subject of what I would like to see downtown. I dont know why we dont have a state of the art gaming facility like Gameworks or ESPN Zone

No one ever said it is as easy as A-B-C! Yeah, it's a big event, but it isn't the f'in Olympics! I refuse to believe that if Cleveland wanted to do it, and was willing to dedicate the resources, that we couldn't pull off an entirely respectable Induction Ceremony.

I collaborated on quite a few events like this.

I dont know why we dont have a state of the art gaming facility like Gameworks or ESPN Zone Those have been talked about, and there are renderings floating around at a local architectural firm that shows one of those gaming facilities at Tower City Center. But, so far, it's just a confidential rendering. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
February 20, 200718 yr ...THE Flagship American Greetings store or Things remembered store. I mean these stores aren't the biggest deal in the retail world, but they are headquartered in the area and should make their presence known.
February 20, 200718 yr ^and along those lines, a significant sherwin williams store. similar to the design district, SW should have a store and portion of their research open to the public near the square - highlighting new technologies, colors, trends, products, etc. a place where developers, designers, engineers, end consumers, etc. would convene to see what is going on, and purchase product. as is, the only presence noticable is the flag flying in front of landmark tower and the tech center on the river. downtown desperately needs flagship stores - especially from the locally based companies.
February 20, 200718 yr ^yes! i couldn't agree more. hey, what scary timing you say that -- i was just making a joke about local flagships on the syc thread: "speaking of local, maybe the locals can come through after all. can you imagine an all new flagship stouffers brand frozen pizza store with residential over the top of it and cafes and stuff at ground level in pesht or maybe a new chef-boy-ar-dee office tower? yeah, that would be ef-ing cool -- very tokyo pop!" seriously, the familar local businesses ought to have visible flagship shop presence around downtown. its a great idea.

Stouffers should go to Shaker Square first! It's original home!!!
February 21, 200718 yr Always thought there should be a Malley's in downtown rather than just in the burbs... here's the map oftheir locations from their website. Any guesses on what the big hole in the middle is called? :x
February 21, 200718 yr ^Maybe there are zoning laws against having too much pink in one establishment.. Seriously though, if overpriced Godiva can make it this long clearly there's a market for at least a small outlet..
February 21, 200718 yr I know I'll be crucified for saying it, but I really don't care for Malleys. I mean it isn't terrible, but it just doesn't compare to others like Sees, Godiva, or my beloved Vosges. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram

February 21, 200718 yr "but what about the Malley's crunch bars?!?!?!?" They aren't bad, but the chocolate has a waxy taste to it - if they used better chocolate, they'd be outstanding. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
February 21, 200718 yr bring back the bernie bars! In that case bring back the "Bernie, Bernie" song that came out around the same time.

Anyway, aren't these events usually surrounded by private parties- at which the participants could party all night and eat at 5:00 AM? I don't see that as insurmountable with some planning. A--The Rolling Stones do not stay in Cleveland when they play here. Nor do most of the top-touring acts who can afford a private charter. Most hub out of Chicago, a short 45 minute flight away. B--Sure there are private parties surrounding these events. But to be a rock start today means you want to be crossing the velvet ropes into NYC's A List club at 3 am with a shorn Britney Spears on your arm. The paparazzi wouldn't get much juice out of a star being put into a private party at the Marriott Key Center.

I mean it isn't terrible, but it just doesn't compare to others like Sees, Godiva, or my beloved Vosges. Sees is pretty good and I can understand comparing Malley's against it. But Godiva and Vosges? Thats like saying "I just don't care for a Honda Accord...it doesn't compare to my Bentley or Ferrari". Of course its not as good as Vosges...a Malley bar also doesn't cost $7
February 21, 200718 yr Fair enough - it's just that I've heard more than one Clevelander gush and rave about Malleys as though it were by far the best chocolate on the planet. For the record, a Godiva macaroon is only $3 :-D clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram

February 21, 200718 yr [/quote that is inaccurate, so inaccuate I won't even discuss it. If you do not work in the music industry - AND I HAVE - please don't post inaccurate information. Not sure which response you're referring to, but go ahead and enlighten me. By the way, it's the only business I've ever worked in. In fact, I am currently on the road with a major pop star.
February 21, 200718 yr Okay - I fully admit that I'm just as guilty as the rest of us in this thread, but ... Thank you! :-) clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
February 22, 200718 yr Fair enough - it's just that I've heard more than one Clevelander gush and rave about Malleys as though it were by far the best chocolate on the planet. For the record, a Godiva macaroon is only $3 :-D Don't know about their other items, but their chocolate-covered pretzels are fantastic, though... In any case, you'd think a relatively-large local chain like that, HQ'd in Cleveland would have a downtown location.
February 22, 200718 yr I think in part places like Malleys represent that hometown support and pride thing. It may not be the best, but it is one of those things that I get for people at the holidays and bring back to DC from Cleveland as gifts, born and bred in Cleve. (that and Great Lakes brew, stadium mustard, petersons nuts, etc.) Also, here in D.C. you dont really find those kind of homegrown businesses. Your options are typically Godiva etc. so it is a novelty for people that I have brought to Cleveland to see these type of local establishments, as it is for me now that I dont live there.
February 22, 200718 yr ^ I agree with you about Malley's being a hometown pride thing. But anyway, it would be kind of nice if a lot of local/regional restaurants and stores moved their offices downtown and openned a flagship location.
February 24, 200718 yr I know I'll be crucified for saying it, but I really don't care for Malleys. I mean it isn't terrible, but it just doesn't compare to others like Sees, Godiva, or my beloved Vosges. I LOVE VOSGES. I treat myself to a trip to Bergdorf Goodman every few weeks or when I'm in Chicago I go to the Westfield Mall location for some indulgence.
February 24, 200718 yr Hi All, Malleys did have a store in the Galleria. closed around 2000, I think. I like there chocolate, not at all waxy tasting. My favorite is still Bakers. They are located at 16131 Holmes Ave. Love their chocolate covered whipped eggs. Bear hugz to all. Jim S.
June 26, 200816 yr I know it's been a while for this thread, But... An office supply store? Seriously, I walked around Tower City for about an half hour an ended up having to buy my emergency office supplies for the day at the FedEx on E. 9 and Chester. Am I missing something?? This seems to be a huge stake in the market that is currently untapped. I must be missing something with the 100,000+ office workers downtown.
June 26, 200816 yr I've never understood that either. Maybe because most offices get most of their stuff by periodic shipment, so they might not run out for pens very often.

June 26, 200816 yr "...Maybe because most offices get most of their stuff by periodic shipment, so they might not run out for pens very often." There's your answer, folks. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
June 26, 200816 yr I've never understood that either. Maybe because most offices get most of their stuff by periodic shipment, so they might not run out for pens very often. Most large office, have corporate contracts with the office supply chains. However, with this move to bring retailers downtown, I don't think it will be to long before an Office Max opens up.
