While I was at the APA Conference in Minneapolis, I signed up for one of the mobile workshops.  We ran through neighborhoods of Loring Park and and Kenwood, as well as through portions of downtown and the actual park and greenways.  It was the first time I had ever run 5 miles before.  It really felt good.

I ran the 10 miler and I thought my legs were going to fall off around mile 8-9!  It was a gorgeous day but our bodies weren't used to that heat!  Not to mention the trees w/ few leaves to block the sun!  Good time overall though!

I was expecting the heat to really slow me down, but I actually ended up with a much better time than I was aiming for. I was surprised when I saw my time at the 5 mile mark, and I think that inspired me for the second half of the race (my last 5 miles were actually slightly faster than my first 5).

I really wanted to run the 10 miler, but the 5 mile run I did was the first time I had run over 3 miles.  Believe me, I really considered it....crazy enough.

Did you guys get t-shirts?  I was wondering if they had any for such a race.

Anyone here planning to run one of ohio's fall marathons (Akron, Columbus, Air Force (Dayton), Towpath, Inland Trail (Elyria), others...)?

I was planning to do the Air Force half marathon, but a business trip got in the way. I'm going to to the Spirit of Columbus half on 8/30 instead. It will be my first.

Anyway, a couple years ago I got into running. I've been doing the Gourdy's Pumpkin Run 5k in Columbus for the past three years, one bonus Gourdy's in Akron, the Air Force Half Marathon in 2022 and the OhioHealth Capital City Half in 2023. Started getting back on the horse a couple months ago so I can do the John Glenn Runway 5k and my fourth of course my fourth Columbus Gourdy's. I got to wondering the other day if there are any other pavement pounders in this community who wanted to meet up for a group run once in a while, or get together for a race, or just talk trails and gear. I know I can't be the only one on an urban enthusiast forum!

I'm doing most of my training at Walnut Woods - Tall Pines area these days, because unlike my neighborhood, people keep their dogs on leashes. Hovering right around a 10:20/mile easy pace and something like a 9:45/mile race pace.

I loved the scenery in Akron. The downtown was lovely, and the final leg along the canal path was even better. The only complaints I had were that 1) my brother thought he could leave Columbus at 8 for a race in Akron at 9, and 2) the roads were a little rough, and the park section had some roots pushing up the trail a bit. Otherwise the event was nice! Followed everything up with a great brunch at Sunrise Social. Seeing (and eating at!) new places is one my favorite reasons to run.

Thinking about getting back into the half marathon game again next year and maybe doing a destination run in Chicago or Vegas, whichever one leaves me enough open schedule time to try Dayton again.
