City proposes $15M sports complex in heart of downtown

A Dayton-area community looks to take a big shot. The city of Springfield want to bring forth a massive sports facility in its downtown.

The Champion City Sports & Wellness Center would entail a 100,000-square-foot structure housing eight competition basketball courts, which can be converted to 16 volleyball courts for youth and amateur sporting tournaments.

The $15 million project would be a boon for the city core and the overall county, according to a funding request.

“(It would) drive the revitalization of our downtown, spur tourism and economic impact at a 2-to-1 ROI, and create a Health & Wellness hub for Clark County which ranks 79th of the state's 88 counties for health outcomes,” the application reads.

Developer plans $26M renovation to longstanding Springfield facility

An out-of-state firm is seeking to restore and revitalize a historic building in downtown Springfield. The project signals a $20M+ effort and will bring new living units and retail options online.

The Hull Plaza at 4 W. Main St., also known as the Fairbanks Building, is potentially the site of a major redevelopment effort within the upcoming years. The historic building was first constructed in the early 1900s by the Fairbanks Building Co.

The developer, Indiana-based AP Construction, has requested Springfield's city commission to approve an economic development agreement to purchase the property. If approved, AP intends to redevelop the 78,000-square-foot building into approximately 80 to 90 market-rate apartment units along the top floors with retail options on the lower ones.

^What a terrible site plan. Looks like they are throwing a suburban subdivision into a beautiful traditional neighborhood. Homes should be facing Pythian and Sunnyside, not inward. Now the fine homes on those streets will look at the back of vinyl houses...
