August 18, 200420 yr I didn't see any mention of the Virgin Megastore that was discussed in another thread but who knows - maybe this will help lure such a retailer? From crainscleveland.com House of Blues progresses By STAN BULLARD An 1,100-seat music hall with a stage and upper-level mezzanine is taking shape inside the former Woolworth store at 318 Euclid Ave. as the House of Blues Cleveland readies for a November opening. October 8, 200420 yr I understand the concept of keeping the original front for the building but God damn, I think they should just redo that front. It doesn't look...well...appealing. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
October 9, 200420 yr How much development do you guys think the House of Blues will really generate? Will retailers want to put stores downtown because the House of Blues is nearby? I would hope so, because lower Euclid is pretty much desolate at night time, and House of Blues will definately add new life to the stretch.
October 9, 200420 yr Here's a detail shot of the ornament on the facade of the former Woolworth building, taken during the September 4th forum meet. I think the facade is nicely representative of downtown retail design of a past era. It just needs to be spruced up.
October 9, 200420 yr the rendering makes it look so shitty. From street level i dont feel like its much of a monstrosity or anything
October 10, 200420 yr If HOB has great success, retailers will see this and want to open up in the area. The important thing about a HOB is they would never build something like that in the suburbs. It is not like building a Fridays downtown or a Max and Ermas or even a Crate and Barrel. We can do all of that in the suburbs. If you feel like going to an HOB, then you have to go downtown. My point is, the HOB shoulld have great success because there is no competition for it within 320 miles (Chicago). As far as the progress goes on the inside, it is fairly close to completion. My company did design work for the HOB which was very detail demanding on the steel. More detail welds on the steel then ironwokers ever had to deal with. When it opens up, take a look at some of the exposed steel. Quite impresive.
October 10, 200420 yr The Euclid Avenue entrance feels a bit cold. The E. 4th entrance has a friendlier feel to it.

It won't be a steady diet of blues music (as their name implies). Their competition will be the Hard Rock Cafe and all the other nightclubs and bars in town. The reason they build downtown (other than the proprietors of this chain are similarly minded to majority of the posters here) is because they look do look for historic "entertainment" districts to build in. Go look up where HOBs are located in Chicago, Memphis, New Orleans, Boston. Each location has something in common. There is something of note concerning Euclid Ave and Parma, Orange, and Berea don't have that and never will.
October 10, 200420 yr oh i dunno, im sure 100 years down the line they might be sipping martinis in the "historic renovated Super-K" of Parma
October 11, 200420 yr Chicago's is in marina city...not really a historic entertainment district Shame on me for guessing then. I figured it would be in the Near North area where the 2nd generation blues bars are located (Kingston Mines & B.L.U.E.S.)

October 26, 200420 yr ^^RTA decided to build the brt line because building the dual hub subway ended up being too expensive when the plan was first introduced. This plan actually has changed over the last 20 years into what we are going to get, which is the brt.

October 27, 200420 yr Nice Family Guy reference, the pope. Peter: "Everything I say is a lie. Expect that. And that. and that. and that and that and that." Not sure if that was what you were going for, but I thought of it anyway.
November 18, 200420 yr Updated pics from 11/18/04 of East 4th Street/HOB area: New light fixtures and bollards along East 4th: And this funky torch streetlight at East 4th and Euclid: clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
November 19, 200420 yr Hey, is something else happening on 4th besides the HoB? I noticed they had the whole street blocked off. Is the intention to re-do that whole block between Prospect and Euclid? I think HoB works more with Prospect as it seems Prospect is developing into some sort of bar/restraunt district. There is that big Fat Fish Blue over at the corner with Ontario, I think?..then places on & off down the street towards the intersection w. Huron (I recall walking past an Irish pub place and a sports bar). The intersection w. Huron looks like it could be a hopping corner. Maybe its the affect of Jacobs Field and Gund Arena so close, the after-game crowd can go to the Prospect Street area for a few beers or food. It seemed Prosepect was a bit more lively than Euclid.
