Here's a silly question, but I'll ask anyway. Does anyone know why the top of the 5/3 tower is never lit anymore? I really love to see that green pointy top at night and I have not seen it lit in months. Anyone know anything about this?

Thanks! :-)

I'd like to know that myself along with the Mead Tower...

Wow, I was beginning to wonder if I was the only person that has noticed this.  It actually hasn't been on for like two years.  I've never seen any stories in the media about it - perhaps their lighting bill got to be too expensive.  Nonetheless, that is WEAK!

Now that Mr. Danis doesn't have the Arcade to use as a tax write-off, he's had to find other ways to save money.  :-D

Yeah, I would LOVE to know why this is not lit....but I'm not sure how I could find out. . .

Well I'm also glad I'm not the only one that has noticed this....

I actually e-mailed someone at the Downtown Dayton Partnership about this, and was told that although the DDP agrees and they continue to encourage the building owners to leave their lights on, the reasons for the buildings not doing so are obviously financial.  I would think though, that the building owners would realize that having an attractive building on the nighttime skyline would certainly help attract attention and potentially more occupants.  Seems like lighting would be a decent investment to me....

Some highlights in my humble opinion, however, are the blue neon rim on 40 W 4th., and the top-tier lights on Liberty Tower.  Some lights up the Side of 10 W. 2nd (Mead) and a lit-up crown on 5/3rd would definitely make a huge difference to the skyline, though.

On a side note, does anyone else think we should steal some tricks from the Columbus skyline?  LeVeque Tower in C-Bus lights up its top tiers with different lights for different occasions and it looks superb.  Green/Red for the Christmas season, Red/White/Blue around 4th of July, etc., etc.  I think this concept could work perfectly on Liberty Tower (Hulman Bldg.).  Anybody agree??  And another is that they spell out "Happy Holidays" with office windows at night in the 40-story One Nationwide Plaza.  And I certainly think something similar could work with Kettering Tower.....  Just some ideas.....

The downtown skyline is good, but some better lighting on the existing buildings could make it great.

I think that Columbus does a pretty good job lighting up at night. LeVeque is obviously one of the best, as the colors change with the time of year. Nationwide also does a good job; they even had a special "Go Bucks" lighting before the big game. The Supreme Court Building is also very pretty. The Franklin County Courthouse also does a nice job lighting up at night; I think it even won some award or something because it had one of the best lighting jobs in the nation or it was the company that did the lighting that won the award.

Columbus buildings do a killer job with their lighting.

I've driven through downtown the last 2 nights on 75 and have been so disappointed not even be able to see the 5/3 tower. I was on 75 south and could not even make out the tower at night until I got up to malfunction junction.

Is there anyone that could help or anything we can do to try and get them to light it up again at night???

Thoughts?

Write to the Downtown Dayton Partnership about lighting the skyline at night again.  Detroit had the same problem and the community got together to light up more prominant buildings.  There's no reason why it can't happen in Dayton.
