April 24, 20241 yr 1 hour ago, LibertyBlvd said: With the NHL in Columbus, it is unlikely Cleveland will ever be considered. A shame the NHL Barons of the mid-70s did not get a chance to build a fan base. It was bad timing as they arrived in 1976 when Cleveland sports fans were all gaga over the Cavs after the "Miracle at Richfield" season. The Barons got stuck with a lot of crappy playing dates at the Coliseum. They were gone two years later, folded into the Minnesota North Stars. I don't buy that. Then why is Cincinnati mentioned. Distance between Cincinnati and Columbus is 107 miles. Cincinnati has an old arena ( Us Bank arena ) ( Not NHL ready. Cincinnati has 6600 per game fan base. Distance between Columbus an Cleveland is 143 miles. Cleveland has an NHL arena and a 10300 per game fan base. So why is Cincy considered and Cleve not.
April 24, 20241 yr Maybe because Cincy doesn't have an NBA team. But I would think their odds are slim due to NHL in Columbus. Edited April 24, 20241 yr by LibertyBlvd
May 11, 20241 yr Apparently the Monsters won last night and are advancing to the next series, but I don't see it reported anywhere. Wth?

May 11, 20241 yr Thanks. Seems like more and more articles on that site are paywalled.. That will likely be the case for every article soon.
May 11, 20241 yr FWIW, 2016 was the last (and only) year that both the Monsters and Cavs advanced in the playoffs
May 11, 20241 yr A shame the Indians didn't win it all that year. It would have been 3 championships for Cleveland in the same year. The last time that happened was 1948 with the Indians, Browns and Barons.
May 23, 20241 yr The Monsters completed a sweep of the Syracuse Crunch last night. They are now advancing to the next round.
May 23, 20241 yr 6 straight wins in the playoffs to make the ECF. Last time we met up with the Bears was our sweep of them in the 2016 Calder Cup Finals.
June 11, 20241 yr After losing the first 3 games vs Hershey, the Monsters have stormed back and tied the series at 3-3!
June 11, 20241 yr All 3 games in Hershey went into OT. Monsters tied the game late in regulation time in all 3 games but lost the first 2 in OT. In game 6 monsters tie the game late in period 3 and win it at 17:31 of OT on a goal by Jake Christianson ( his first game back after a lengthy injury recovery. )
June 11, 20241 yr Coming back from 0-3....that would be simply amazing!!! Win or lose game 7 you just gotta love the how this Monster squad continues to fight.

April 22Apr 22 https://www.crainscleveland.com/sports-recreation/cleveland-monsters-again-lead-ahl-attendance Fueled by record attendance, Monsters’ business is booming "The Monsters, now in their 18th season in Cleveland, shattered the franchise’s single-season attendance record with an AHL-leading average of 11,438 fans per game. That was 1,500 more than the AHL's second-highest figure (9,925 by the Laval Rocket) and more than 1,000 higher than the Monsters' previous record of 10,347, set last year."
April 23Apr 23 2 hours ago, LibertyBlvd said: But, but, but, we've been told Cleveland is not a hockey town. I have no doubts the city would support an NHL team. That being said I don’t need The Monsters (or the San Diego Gulls) to be in the top league in order to love seeing the games. The AHL is quality hockey and the fans make it fun.
