Posted January 31, 200718 yr I've been poking around greater Cincinnati for a while. I've come across six abandoned churches, several factories (including the Stearns and Foster in Lockland), more buildings than I could ever imagine in Over-the-Rhine, an abandoned neighborhood. But sadly, Longview was demolished several years ago. But has anyone driven by this hospital on the west side? There isn't a lot of vehicles, and I can't find any information on it what-so-ever. Thanks!
January 31, 200718 yr St Francis, or St George Hospital. I forget which one was there in South Fairmount, which is the one you linked. Bird's Eye http://local.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&cp=qhmzx67ykyjr&style=o&lvl=1&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&scene=9026695 But they merged and built a new hospital here in the mid 80's. St Francis/St George they called it, now its Mercy Fransiscan http://local.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&cp=qhp7zf7yghp9&style=o&lvl=1&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&scene=8910001
January 31, 200718 yr I believe that bldg is now a senior living bldg of sorts...it is a beautiful bldg nonetheless!
January 31, 200718 yr It is a retirement home, but I believe it is only for nuns. I don't know for sure, but I've heard it before. I'm, sure it is still in use though.
January 31, 200718 yr That building is certainly still in use as a retirement home. However to the right of that (east) you will see the sad remnants of St. Bonaventure church which was a fantastic building, right up tight on the street. St. Bonaventure was just torn down a few years ago too, as evidenced by the fresh dirt in the aerial photo.
January 31, 200718 yr is some school right next to this place? It looks like this school I am thinking of sits just to the right in the aerial. It just underwent renovations and looks UC in the aerial. I did a lot of work in that damn school, what is that school named? can anyone help me out?
January 31, 200718 yr There is one to the east. It looks like it has beautiful brick and was nicely maintained, but is abandoned :( I found a few other sweet spots to check out, so I'll go and grab some exteriors Friday and see if anyone can guess where they are at. Thanks for the heads up on the former hospital, it looks beautiful! Does anyone have photographs of the former Longview Asylum before it was demolished? That would have made some really nice condos at the very least!

I know that St. Bonaventure sold their building to a charter school, and they demolished the beautiful church, and left just a few of the entry stones as a reminder of what was demolished. Then they built a simple school building. I am not sure of the name of the new school. Her is an article in 2004 about the closure of St. Bonaventure http://www.enquirer.com/editions/2004/05/02/priests/loc_priestDay1close.html
January 31, 200718 yr That's demolished??? I'm surprised that the other churches I've visited, many in just pathetic condition, are still standing. You can see a few here :(
January 31, 200718 yr Yup, thats the old St. Francis Hospital. My mom worked there and moved the first patient to the new St. Francis-St. George Hospital farther up Queen City at Boudinot. I remember there being a huge marble stair case going up to the second floor right as you walked in. It is now St. Francis Court, and is a senior living facility, as Uncle Rando pointed out. I do not believe it is not only for nuns as Hydro said. Perhaps you were thinking of the Mother House or Mother Margarete Hall at Mount St. Joseph in Delhi?
January 31, 200718 yr Perhaps it's not exclusive, but I have been told that nuns retire there. And like I said, I don't know for sure, but I've heard that. EDIT: I can't find any information online to support this, so forget I ever said it. Just a retirement home, no nuns involved.
