So...whos going...who wants to go....and should we do a meet up/get together during the stay???

Let 'er rip!!!

I plan on atteding, but the details of when I'll be there/where I'll stay/how I'll get there still have to be worked out (in the cheapest way possible)

Can't really afford it with all of the additional costs.

I'm skipping it in lieu of the CNU, which oddly enough is also in Philadelphia this year.

^^Man...and I thought I was broke!!!  For students its only $100, but like you said its the extras...hotel, travel, workshops, food, etc.  I think it will be well worth the investment though...I've gotta scrounge up some money, but it can be done.

I probably should know about this. :/

^Aren't you a member of the APA??  If you're a member...then you would know all about it (they run the thing).  BTW, you need to be a member of the APA should you wish to be AICP (American Institute of Certified Planners) eventually.

For the students:

Student Volunteer Program

Application Deadline: February 27, 2007

Students may volunteer their time at the conference and earn back the cost of the early online registration fee. In exchange for eight hours of volunteer service during the conference, APA will reimburse student members the amount of the early online registration fee. Students must be registered for the conference at the time they apply to be a volunteer and must be student members of APA. Student volunteers are reimbursed upon completion of the eight hours of work onsite.

Once your application is reviewed, you will be notified by e–mail as to your acceptance as a volunteer. APA receives more applications than it can use, so register and apply early to improve your changes. Please note, if you are accepted as a volunteer and you register after the early registration deadline, you will be reimbursed only for the early online registration fee, not the greater fee.

Online conference registration will begin in early December.

E-mail questions to [email protected].

One of those things I never got around to...good reminder.

Finally registered for APA, looking forward to recieving their publications.

How often do they hold these conferences? The list of workshop topics is incredible, I'd be very interested in attending many of them, although I don't feel that I'm ready/prepared for it. I could afford it however, and I've never been to Philadelphia...

^They hold this national conference only 1 time each year...they do also hold regional conferences (one of which was held in Cincy last year).  I agree that the topics look very interesting, and I am eager to participate in some of the workshops.

I wouldn't worry about it if I were you..you'll learn everything you need to know at the workshop (unless it specifies that you need certain knowledge prior to participating).  Oh and Philly is GREAT...if you love planning then most likely you'll love Philly!

Use http://www.planning.org and find out (concerning conferences, regional and national).

(at least their job listings page is viewable by members and non-members alike)

^I did spend about 3 minutes looking for info on how often they were held, then I realized that UO/UncleRando would be much more efficent!

  • 1 month later...

So who here is going and where are we going to meet. The most obvious place would be the student reception, but we could all do something on our own too.

Passing on some information from the home office in chicagoland.

I recommend somebody run for regional rep. I was the rep 2 yeas ago and then was elected as national chair the following year. Its a good way to network and have travel paid for as well. (see following message)

Well...I was planning on going, but I don't think I'll be able to pull the funds together

Anyone want to make donations to the 'Send UncleRando to the 2007 APA Conference Fund' or SUR2APACF for short.
