Great Lakes Towing Co. plans to build tugboats along the Old River Channel of the Cuyahoga River. Work on the first tug will begin March 1, said Great Lakes president Ron Rasmus. The customer ordering the boat is Petchem Inc. of Connecticut, which will use it in Port Canaveral, Fla.

I especially like the bit about partnering with Max Hayes.  That's a really great program.  Thanks for the post!

Articles on expanded industry are always a double plus for the city.  Great news!

Wow, who would've thought we would be in the boat making business again.

Very nice.

This was the best bit of news in this article. Programs like this need to be a big part of the future for the Cleveland Public Schools.

Agreed...this is great news!  Will the facilities be visible from Wendy Park or from Lakeview or West Bank?

I remember hearing about this last year. They never mentioned that they would be building boats. Very cool.

A couple of years ago during the Waterfront Plan meetings, there was always talk of Great Lakes expanding. But there was never anything, that I recall, about boat building.

Here is an image from the plan showing their location. So it will likely be visible to people close to West 49th. The Harp would have the best view.

Musky, don't forget to post the image. I'd like to see it and I suspect others would, too.

Whoa, that was weird. I could have sworn I put it there.

Oh well, here it is again - plus an extra money shot.
