February 9, 200718 yr Awesome Pictures!! The third picture down looks like project boards from the Purdue school of Landscape Architecture (I'm an Alumn of that program)! The seventh picture down is the apartment building I lived in at one time. Great place! Thanks!

February 9, 200718 yr The building with the black mansard roof and the elaborate lintels is beautiful. College towns always have the advantage of state money, tuition money, and foundation and corporate research money flowing into the town. Like Columbus. That town even developed an electronics industry. Meanwhile, the towns that spawned Westinghouse and Republic Steel just die on the vine. There is a bank in W. Lafayette that was designed by Louis H. Sullivan. Somebody did a restoration. The owners had put a drop ceiling into the lobby and covered the original art. Ahem. Can't say I enjoyed my time there. A Mahoning Valley boy in the state that used to be run by the Ku Klux Klan--literally. Some assholes burned a cross in the lawn of a black fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha, while I was there.
February 10, 200718 yr It's been awhile since I was in Lafayette last, but I remember how many beautiful historic buildings it had. My favorite building though is that yellowish brick and limestone building with the green cornice.
