Took a walk over to neighboring neighborhood Shadyside today.  We got blasted with a mix of snow and rain yesterday... and some more snow today... I don't know... 7 inches or so?  Shadyside is a large beautiful neighborhood just a few blocks away from my place in Bloomfield.  Figured it was the perfect neighborhood to photograph after a snowstorm.

Entering Shadyside from Bloomfield... The Centre-Baum corridor forms the border between the two neighborhoods and is dominated by many large apartment buildings like this one... The Coronado.

Anyways, nice shots.  Except for the Whole Foods.  That could've been discarded...much like Steelers fans.

Absolutely amazing, thanks so much!

The banner on the Lutheran church is most interesting, I assume they mean civil union?

Awesome.  Love that church in photos #2.  I must make it back to Pittsburgh this spring.

Wonderful tour. I love the shot through the chain link fence at the busway and railroad.

I've seen wood-block floors in old factories where there was heavy traffic, but never heard of a wood-block street. I wonder how they keep them from popping up from expansion when they're wet.

In the factory where I worked, the individual blocks were treated with a sealant and then the floor was sealed after installation, but a significant water spill from a broken pipe or sprinkler discharge would still cause a large area to swell and pop up.

Man, these pic threads make me think I should be living in Pittsburgh!

What a wonderful business district that is along Walnut!  Very cool....not every business district in a city should be like this (corporaty/trendy), but every city should have at least one to go along with the local yocals!

Walnut is about half corporate/trendy and half local yokel... and most of the restaurants/bars are local... except for a Max & Erma's... it's a good mix.  The Ellsworth and Highland business districts are almost completely local and a bit funkier... but Walnut has the ultimate pedestrian scale to it.

nice tour. everygrey go back and show us the woodblock street when the snow is gone will ya?

Great looking neighborhood!
