It was a sweet scene, just what the twentysomething crowd expected -- DJs amping esoteric music mixes from a murky stage, bass notes pounding insistently through the floorboards. Two, three hours passed, as they nodded rhythmically to the music, waiting for the Grog Shop's main act.

 

But isn't life about expecting the unexpected?

 

Just after midnight, a rainbow-colored plastic rope was arranged onstage. A few minutes later, the stage lights brightened, and artist Zachariah Durr began a theatrical introduction of --who knew? "They came from outer space," he said. The crowd cheered and whooped, nearly drowning out Durr, who'd climbed on a riser to be better seen and heard...

very cool. this makes a comeback in popualrity every so often, glad it see its back again.

 

it also reminds me, the son of one of my co-workers wrote the 'double dutch bus,' an early rap era hit song:

this whole thing is definately starting to get popular here and other places.  all of our shows bring in at least 50-100 people really curious about the whole idea.

At the park around the corner from my house (marcus garvey) they have double dutch local and international compeititons throughout the summer.

 

Some of those kids are AMAZING.  I think this should be an olympic sport.  8-)
