February 1, 200718 yr Author Oooookay! Back to Ohio City... Last night, I was walking around with my lover around 8:30 and was pleased to find that: -Kimo's Sushi had at least 3 tables occupied! -Progress on the neighboring commercial space is proceeding (looks like a salon/barber) -Johnny Mango's was PACKED!!! About 3 parties waiting for tables and two delivery guys from Deliver Me Food waiting for orders from elsewhere. This morning, while walking with my pooch, I noticed that the rehab of the house on the corner of W. 38th & Whitman is finished and is being marketed with its restored 19th Century storefront, which I'm 99% certain is just a bedroom. Also, the house across from Heck's (W. 30th & Bridge) that has been boarded up for quite some time now has a "sold" sign on it.

I didn't think brothels were permitted in Ohio.
February 1, 200718 yr Author what? you talking about the bedroom? if so, put this in your pipe and smoke it: the door to the bedroom/retail space is RED!
February 1, 200718 yr what? you talking about the bedroom? if so, put this in your pipe and smoke it: the door to the bedroom/retail space is RED! makes all the sense in the world. Glad to hear the 30th & Bridge home is sold. That was pretty quick. We need that corner to look good.
February 1, 200718 yr Author It's still listed as a 3-family building, though. I guess it was 3 one-bedroom apartments. I can't imagine it remaining that way.
February 1, 200718 yr ^wow. I wonder what it looked like inside. Its not really that large of a house. I wonder when we'll hear about the West Side Community House. Haven't heard about that one in a while. Also, its good to hear that A Place for Us is moving forward.
February 5, 200718 yr Talked to a couple of bartenders at Bier Markt this weekend and they informed me that the gallery space within the bar will be turned into a restaurant run by an outside investor. They'll serve Bier Markt's beer, and patrons could eat in the restaurant or in the bar. Also, the basement will be opened up to the public. Hopefully getting DJ's to spin down there. Good news all around for Bier Markt and the W25th scene.
February 5, 200718 yr Author ^is this imminent or just the plan? the restaurant idea was the plan from the beginning, so I'd be happy to hear if they found an operator!
February 5, 200718 yr I've heard that if all goes as planned, a restaurant will be operating by summer. The planned menu is comfort food with a twist and the prices will be conducive to a neighborhood dining spot; a place one might go a few times a week! Apparently they will also serve pommes frites with a variety of dipping sauces for the bier market crowd
February 6, 200718 yr the best source of pictures would be Urban Ohio. On the front page, click on NE Ohio, then Cleveland, then Neighborhoods, then Ohio City.
February 9, 200718 yr Author Anyone else notice that Timz Ladiez Shooz (on W. 25th, next to Opa) finally opened? It has a real name now too, but I can't remember what it is...
February 10, 200718 yr ^I believe some guy named MGD touted this as a shoe store many months ago or was it an artist formally known as %&^#%@^ aka W.W that discovered the store?
February 10, 200718 yr Author Fore...I think that's what it's called. And it wasn't open on my way home from work tonight around 6:00. Bummer, cause I really could've used a new pair of pumps with the week I've had!
February 14, 200718 yr it appears that the Clinton Courts has broken ground. I'm not completely sure, though. There is a large backhoe on site and large pile of dirt. I'm not sure if the dirt is due to some excavating or if it was dumped there (hard to see because of the snow). Anyways, I hope this project it on its way. By the way, this is a 5 townhouse development on Clinton Ave near the corner of W.38th.

By the way, this is a 5 townhouse development on Clinton Ave near the corner of W.38th. I've called Rysar twice about this project. The first time, the person (can't recall the name) committed to email me the site plan and the townhouse renderings -- never got them. The next time, I left a message and have yet to hear back (more than 3 weeks now). Still, good news that it's getting started. My experiences were leading me to think that it was dead.
February 14, 200718 yr ^I emailed them last week and they never got back to me. Over the past few weeks, they've cut down some large limbs that were hanging over the site and they also marked out the gas lines last week. Still, Rysar's behavior is odd. I'm still not completely sold on whether they'll build it or not.
February 14, 200718 yr does anyone know if the market (edit: West Side, of course) is open this snowy wed?
February 14, 200718 yr Try these numbers: 216-579-0634 (Market info) 216-579-6800 (Market cafe) "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
February 14, 200718 yr I called the info line .no answer, odd. The Market cafe answered and they are open as are a few vendors. Most important, the newest stand "Cake" is open. I need cake.
February 14, 200718 yr Cake is the newest? It's been there at least a year and a half. Their carrot cake is as good as it gets.
February 14, 200718 yr There were a few cars in the lot as I went by the Market today. Considering my bus (the #81) got stuck at Abbey and West 11th, I was impressed to see that many people out and about. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
February 14, 200718 yr Cake is the newest? It's been there at least a year and a half. Their carrot cake is as good as it gets. are you sure we are talking about the same place? Maybe they revamped and I have taken notice. The cakes and pastries look very upscale. It is in one of the middle aisle? I may have put blinders on though as I equate sweets with crack.
February 14, 200718 yr It's definetly the same place and hasn't been remodeled from what I can tell. Been there for a while.
February 14, 200718 yr Definetly recommend the carrot cake. The cream cheese frosting is the crack you are looking for.
February 14, 200718 yr Author That place is super fancy (and delicious) and there's another place a few stalls south (towards Lorain) that has some kick-ass pies & quiches at much more modest prices, fyi!
February 14, 200718 yr Well, cake, for a hefty sum, has been successfully acquired from Cake. I got a piece of carrot per W28th's recommendation and some flourless chocolate. The Market only had a few stalls open. It was hell getting there. Yes, I should have walked but sidewalks not shoveled (except in front of market), the roads are still bad! I was unable to get the ingredients for a Valentines dinner due to nothing being open so I think we will poach someones dinner reservations elsewhere. Not that I don't think the whole holiday is a bunch of crap...but if it is an excuse to eat and do other fun stuff what the heck! Map Boy I think you are speaking of Dennison Pie which I love and they are very fair pricewise. love the quiche and the fruit pies!

I can't walk past a crumbs bakery, wimps bakery or magnolia with spending $20 bucks as bad as this may sound, thank goodness Hough bakery is not in existence or be the size the shaker square.
February 16, 200718 yr Good move by Cimperman + some news about A Place for Us and the other Detroit Rd. housing development (in bold) Cimperman offers used car deal Plan would keep existing lots, block more from area Thursday, February 15, 2007 By David Plata West Side Sun News EDIT: Article removed, no link, and no longer on cleveland.com
February 16, 200718 yr Author I'm assuming the Barkley Marine Building is one of those 1-2 story commercial/industrial structures on that stretch? Nothing to lament the loss of? I think the artist formerly known as Wimwar had mentioned this project earlier. Who's got more details?
February 16, 200718 yr Yep, I informed David about it. I wanted to cover it for myself while David was on vacation a month ago, but then the Stonewater condos application appeared. Hard to keep up with all the developments happening... "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
February 16, 200718 yr Author I know... that's why I come here! I had a feeling your hand was in this one somewhere...
February 16, 200718 yr I posted some details about it a few pages up in this thread (top of page 9). The developer contacted me around the time of the Emerging Cleveland tours.
February 16, 200718 yr Author Thanks Blinky! I'd forgotten about that. Has anyone seen any renderings yet?
February 16, 200718 yr ^Wimwar is the only one who has ever mentioned it. I posted some details about it a few pages up in this thread (top of page 9). The developer contacted me around the time of the Emerging Cleveland tours. Apologies for the oversight.
February 17, 200718 yr I see these two housing projects as very important to Ohio City. If and when they are completed, it will drastically change the feel of Detroit. W.28th is a key gateway because it is an entrance/exit for the Shoreway. The West 32nd project will be the tallest building in the area and will give the feeling that things are improving on Detroit. I see that the West 32nd and A Place for Us parcels have already been purchased. I'd guess that most developers would only secure a purchase option before having obtained all the necessary permits/design review approvals. The fact that these parcels have been purchased says a lot. As a recent homeowner and purchaser of an adjacent parcel, its good to see this type of movement in the Detroit/Clinton area of Ohio City.
February 18, 200718 yr I heard that West 32nd will be 7 and 5 stories (two separate buildings). I believe that West 28th will be about 4.
February 18, 200718 yr some long overdue storefront renovation is happening in the same block of detroit, at the corner of 26th and detroit. if I am understanding the place for us destination, it is directly adjacent to the parking lot to be used. there is a thoroughly reclaimable building across the street as well. it used to hold a tattoo parlor. hopefully something new happens with the street level storefront. the building beside that looks to have seen better days, probably sometime in the mid to late 1970s, and appears unoccupied.
February 18, 200718 yr Author Wimwar/3231 has mentioned that restoration work on a couple occasions. I believe that is part of the "A Place 4 Us" development. The buildings across the street are, unfortunately, in jeopardy of demolition with several of the "preferred" alternatives of the Lakefront West (Shoreway) project.
February 18, 200718 yr Why do they need to demolish anything for the boulevard?? "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
