February 18, 200718 yr Author Ironically, at this intersection, they think they're going to need more room for traffic turning right off of Detroit onto W. 28th to get on the Shoreway...trucks especially. http://www.innerbelt.org/Lakefrontwest/FallFlyerMaps/W28_J.pdf http://www.innerbelt.org/Lakefrontwest/FallFlyerMaps/W28_K.pdf
February 18, 200718 yr Why don't they restore the connector between Detroit Avenue and the Shoreway that existed in the early 1990s when the Shoreway bridge was completely rebuilt over a couple of years? The connector was located where the two roadways run adjacent to each other and there is nothing but a strip of grass separating the two. February 18, 200718 yr Author The new salon on Fulton across from the library is getting set to open. They're going to have a big party in late-March, but their inspection is this week. The place looks really nice, with lots of exposed brick and clean silver & black fixtures. They're apparently going to carry Paul Mitchell products and will even have the PM dog-care line! No dog grooming, however...
February 18, 200718 yr ^Because Ohio City-Near West needs an excuse to demolish Linda's Superette. Too bad we have to rely on highway projects to get rid of urban plagues (see Opportunity Corridor and the 40+ EPA Superfunds sites along the Red Line/Norfolk Southern). No dog grooming, however... I wonder if the OC can support two high-end salons? Zen is just down the street... Hope so!
February 19, 200718 yr Author I don't know how "high end" this will be. It'll be nice, but not Zen nice. I presume that when Zen relocates (is this still on the table?) that they'll keep the spa feature? I'm curious about the new place's market. Zen already has its regulars and will likely not lose any to the newbie. So, will the new one get its draw through the Paul Mitchell "franchise" thing?
February 19, 200718 yr How is Zen? I saw it when driving home from Momocho's the other day (love the beer with the tobasco & worcestershire sauces)..
February 19, 200718 yr Zen is a very nice place. I've been there twice and plan on continuing. They are supposed to move to the old Today's Fashions location on 25th. I must admit I am not the one to critique salons.
February 19, 200718 yr The new Zen is almost complete with indoor demo work. Rob says he plans on being open by the fall. I told him I'll expect it to be open ion the winter.
February 19, 200718 yr ^Really, I haven't noticed a thing. Is that their dumpster in Dave's parking lot?
February 19, 200718 yr Author I kept wondering why the for sale sign was still up on the front facade... so, this is moving forward? I love their old spot so much, but I trust that they'll do this one up right!
February 20, 200718 yr pretty interesting mix of new and old merchants on w 25th. I would like to see the old moda club fixed up into something. any word since all the craziness there?
February 22, 200718 yr This hillside park is supposed to be up and running THIS summer according to Cimperman. They want to do some outdoor arts stuff. Also as an FYI the Superior Bridge tour will also be happening on July 4 this year in addition to the other dates.
February 23, 200718 yr New to this post -- does anyone know anything about the Oblock Power building on West 29th Street? It is for sale. Is it something to easily rehab? Supposedly it has a great view from the roof but curious if any of the new construction will eventually block the view?
February 23, 200718 yr Its had a for-sale sign on it when I last saw it (very recently). I live around the corner from this building. The only thing that I wonder about is if there are enough windows. By the way, that portion of Ohio City is really doing well. Have you looked at Clinton Courts? I'm not sure if that is what you are looking for, but it did just break ground this week.
February 23, 200718 yr Author You getting a commission from Rysar? Or do you just want new neighbors?
February 23, 200718 yr You getting a commission from Rysar? Or do you just want new neighbors? New neighbors!
February 23, 200718 yr Not sure if this has already been mentioned, but a recent walk by the Townhomes of Ohio City, whose prices were near $500K apiece, showed a 'sold out' sign proclaiming 'now taking reservations for phase II'. Phase II will rise along Clinton. Renderings attached.
February 23, 200718 yr Ohio City is kicking ass. Seems like the area south of Lorain going towards the zoo, should start to pick up steam as people in OC will be priced out. Sorry for the stupid question, but is the area south of Lorain/west of Tremont still OC? Or does it have a "sub" neighborhood name? that area is so confusing to me.
February 23, 200718 yr Do NOT ever utter the term "SoLo" to describe that area in my presence. Just a pet peeve. :whip: Once you get toward Clark Avenue/Metro General that area transitions into "Clark/Metro". clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
February 23, 200718 yr Author Phase II is just the two townhomes, right? I think they sold the rest of the project to someone else... The beautiful (and immaculately restored) home on the left is where the developer's parents live!

The beautiful (and immaculately restored) home on the left is where the developer's parents live! Phase II includes the two townhomes that you speak of. They will break ground once one is sold. They also plan on a phase III that would be located in the alley and would face the Vine Industrials. These townhomes would be smaller than the first two phases. The original plan did include townhomes on the other side of the historic home. I don't think that the developer sold that land to anyone else. I think that he just let his option contract expire.

February 23, 200718 yr TY to 3231 for pointing me to you guys; I have the John V. Oblak bldg listed. It's 2930 sq. ft. Currently only one wall (west) has a second story living area, almost like a loft-like efficiency with a full bath and pullman kitchen? The windows give great light for it's current use since most of the building is open (there is a skylight as well) Depending on what you or anyone would want to use it for, it's zoned commercial, residential and light industrial. The owner is a fairly sought after bronze sculptor and it's a working studio. The lower level is work space as well. 480 amps of elect. and a full roof top deck with parapet walls - was built in 1924 as an electric power transfer station for trolley cars. Finally someone asked a question I have some expertise about :-)
February 23, 200718 yr Thanks for the information. We have looked everywhere -- Gateway District, Warehouse District, Battery Park, Kings Court, etc. We did look at the Oblock building -- you are right about the windows. Could be a cool building but lots of renovation needed. Just not sure it would be a good thing to take on if a finished condo is available next door.
February 25, 200718 yr I recently discovered Ohio City is featured in the March 2007 issue of Cottage Living. I went out and picked up a copy. There is a five page article on the neighborhood with some very nice pics. It lists several OC events such as the Home Tour, Garden Tour, and Open Air in Market Square.
February 25, 200718 yr You're welcome J, and yes there are a lot of already finished properties in that price range. I think this bldg. is really for someone who is dying to make it their place and put their own stamp on it. Good luck with your hunt! OC Charlie, ty too, I will check it out.
March 1, 200718 yr Can anyone give me more information on the status of the Hope VI project? Has it been approved? Where is the final location and when will the project start? Forgive me if the answer is obvious but I don't know the area very well. Thanks!

Thanks! welcome jmjr, in case you didn't know there is a search feature http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php?topic=2492.270. You can read about the Hope VI Project here..Happy reading
March 1, 200718 yr Thanks to "MyTwoCents" for pointing me to this thread. Does anyone know what is happening with the Hope VI project as it relates to West 28th and Church and West 28th and Detroit? Is it shelved for now or is it a go? thanks!
March 7, 200718 yr The Jay Lofts website is finally up. They make two interesting claims: 1. Jay Lofts is located in Ohio City, Ohio. 2. the grand opening is set for May 2007. 1. I was not aware that we (OC) had seceded from Cleveland. 2. They are going to have to work awfully fast to open anything by May 2007.
March 7, 200718 yr ^Is anything happening at all at the Jay? Any news? It's been a couple of months since I noticed any work going on there.
March 7, 200718 yr It looks like nothing has happened since fall. There still is a sales rep in Bier Mrkt every saturday morning.
March 7, 200718 yr I don't know this for sure, but I betcha they are waiting for one or two sales in order to proceed (bank authorization) on their work. I'll see what I can find out today.
March 7, 200718 yr But why wouldn't they put develop their website more? They aren't making it easier for themselves by just having a lady pass out informational sheets once a week.
March 7, 200718 yr riveting I know. Sometimes developer websites are so mesmerizing that they make you want to buy buy buy. I was just about to put a deposit down on three units until I snapped out of it.
