This means every property (other than the lone remaining car lot between the new townhouses and Forest City Shuffleboard) on Lorain between West 45th and West 48th has been/or is slated to be renovated and made use of as storefront or living. This stretch will be very active in development. January 3, 20232 yr I certainly hope so. My wife and I live on 50th and we're expecting a daughter soon - our hope is to have a "two way go" from our house between choosing places to walk to on Detroit and Lorain. Right now Detroit is the better option - but Lorain is catching up. Personally, I think Lorain has more growth opportunity with the natural density (no shoreway), but I'm really happy to see it.

January 3, 20232 yr The joke is that the "grey guy", who's spouting NIMBY or maybe anti-gentrification rhetoric that sounds socially aware and "correct", doesn't want to follow the logic of their argument to other housing issues, exposing their hypocrisy. They aren't really interested in "housing affordability" per se, but rather something else like "protecting their property values" or more likely, "keeping others that they don't want in their neighborhood out".

Another example is the Hessler NIMBY’s who are complaining that the gravel parking lot proposal doesn’t have enough “affordable” units. Side note - I’m very curious if that NIMBY drives a new or used vehicle. And how much time she spends complaining about the car companies not making enough “affordable” new cars. When is the last time I-71 turned a profit?

It's Ohio City, across the street from me. Buildings are nearing completion, I'm surprised they call them townhouses though? They're all free-standing single families on a large oddly shaped lot that's been split into 3 new lots. Perhaps it's a "townhouse" since they share a common driveway amongst the three houses.

It can mean a large payout to the founders or access to capital and larger markets etc. But in reality selling out or getting bought out means the end of a local business. The end of local facilities as the absorbed business is moved to another city or state. The end of focus on local charities. The end of a business with a stake in the local environment. In truth mergers and acquisitions are usually a benefit to a few at the expense of the many. Look no further than who supports them and who opposes them.

Both are about 4 stories and contain 75+ units each. They are generally lot-line to lot-line with covered ground floor parking, a touch of retail. Fairly generic looking at the moment. They are supposed to go on courbanize soon but havent seen yet.
February 23, 20232 yr That W44th and Lorain area is turning into a great little pocket with all the development there. Love seeing these mid-sized curb to curb buildings going up with shops on the ground floor.
