This complementary development should reenforce Harbor Bay's decision to proceed with Intro II.

I would hope so, especially given the success of Phase I as well.  But my completely speculative gut is telling me that things have been "crickets" in regards to a Phase II due to high interest rates and the developer waiting to see how the economy pans out in the next few months.

Voss factory conversion comes into focus
By Ken Prendergast / May 27, 2023

Legislation was introduced this week by several Cleveland City Council members to help finance the conversion of the abandoned Voss Industries plant, 2168 W. 25th St., in Cleveland’s Ohio City neighborhood into a mixed-use complex. The projected price tag to carry out the redo is at least $62 million. While the property’s owner and developer MRN Ltd. has been kicking around various ideas for reusing the property for the last couple of years, none of those concepts have advanced as far as this stage of nailing down its financing for a specific program.

You know it hadn't occurred to me that opening the underside of the bridge to people would make for a nice connection between the new park on its western edge and the planned riverfront park on the eastern edge.

Could we be so lucky?

And didn’t we just hear that wedge between the bridge and the Federal Courthouse is being turned into a park?

I think it is supposed to be more of a plaza, but I also believe it is supposed to have access down to the river.

Would seem like a good opportunity to coordinate with the county for the eastern entrance.

Miketo’s Lorain Ave stake growing
By Ken Prendergast / June 7, 2023

A 28,000-square-foot mixed-use development called 4732 Lorain is proposed at the west end of Cleveland’s Ohio City neighborhood offers to expand densification and neighborhood vibrancy west along Lorain Avenue. And, it would expand real estate developer and owner Jim Miketo’s investments west along that rapidly redeveloping thoroughfare as well.

I think Jim should have his name under Lorain Ave on all the street signs if he continues beautifying this corridor. The revitalization continues! Now imagine it with true bike lanes/skinnier roads... and all the revitalization.

Great news - I am starting to think that the W50s will be rejuvenated on Lorain before they are on Detroit.

You're thinking of this one, which is a few blocks west on Lorain:

Not sure if this mentioned already but 4732 LORAIN AVENUE is the type of development that really turns Lorain into a street found in OTR, the design is great (just wish unit ownership was more prevalent like it is in OTR)

After Successful Pilot Efforts, What Will it Take to Close Market Avenue to Cars for Good?

By Mark Oprea on Tue, Aug 8, 2023

"The summer of 2019 left a particular impression on Tom McNair, the executive director of Ohio City Incorporated.

McNair, then five years into his position, was overjoyed that one of his walkability pursuits, the closing of Market Avenue to car traffic, was happening. By June, the street was covered in Astroturf and Adirondack chairs. No longer did lines of SUVs and cars line the curb. Instead, there was sidewalk seating, in the most European image Market Ave had ever seen.

...

In the four years since Market Ave.'s brief identity as a pedestrian street, questions as to how to try again to close the avenue off are resurfacing in earnest, as the support for the avenue's permanent closure grows in its collective intent. But, as in 2019, quagmires continue arise."

In local restaurant news:

Condado tacos coming into the old OHC Galley space on 25th and Detroit.

Also saucy is expanding into the former title boxing space and Dominos going into Harbor 44

These are great food news! Condado will be an awesome addition there even though not my favorite. I am just happy that beautiful corner space will be filled and add immediate activity to that space.

Condado is really popular. Hopefully they add a patio on 25th and bring some street life outside.

It’ll be interesting to see how Condado does in the neighborhood. Chains seem to have trouble in Ohio City and plenty of the population is Barrio-ed out.

Anyone have info on Dave’s Hot Chicken? It looks like construction has really slowed/stopped.

I noticed Dave’s removed Ohio City coming soon from their billboard on 90 past 117th. No idea tho.

lol I wanted to say the same thing but didn’t want to be a Debbie downer. Glad that space is getting activated with a busy chain that I will never go to

Busy places attract other busy places. Now can we plz level Bobby’s eyesore across the street?!

Funny thing is I feel Dave's Hot Chicken would do amazing in the same space Condado is moving into.

Here’s what the saucy expansion is going to look like… extended patio that goes on to church and new garage door. The only thing not approved is the awning they didn’t like how big it is and the color being black felt like too much black

I'm also watching the Landmarks meeting; there was some minor drama involving the Brew Works' "ask for forgiveness, not for permission" approach to putting the original awning up in the first place. 😂 (With the caveat that some lenience was provided by the Commission due to the pandemic in 2020.) Is this approach typical? Wouldn't they be fined for this?

Think of it more as an "Expediting  Fee" 😉

Its so funny to see these idyllic images presented to these boards.  Currently where the new patio on Church Street is shown, there are three major dumpsters that were displaced when the vibrator company property was sold and padlocked by the new owner. Where are they going?  Also there is usually a stack of wood pallets outside the garage door.  Above the garage door is a giant silo (not shown) that holds the spent grain from the brewing production.  Every 2 or 3 days an open bed semi pulls up and the spent grains are poured in  -  this is also where saucy trucks pull up all day long loading pallets of beer for distribution.  None of this is very conducive to enjoying a beer on the patio. The only way I see this being possible is if Saucy is moving production to a new facility.  Was there any discussion of that?

No discussion of the loading/unloading area they did ask them to look into manhole access in that area as well as relocating the bike racks

^ Holy sh*t. That's quite a beacon we have there. I didn't even know that was on the table. Very nice surprise.

Oh good.  I was worried the Cleveland Bagels would be too busy packing up and moving and wouldn't be able to keep up their normal duties:   discussing their new tattoo or what craft beer the drank the night before while 60 people wait outside for bagels.

The owner should fire every one of them and replace them with the immigrant guys in every bagel shop in NYC that move thousands of customers an hour.
