Obviously MRN is trying to connect this development to its Voss project, but building a pedestrian bridge? What's up with 47k SF of one-story commercial facing the greenway (parking?)? What could Future MetroParks development be? Does the new RTA station access the RLGW too? This seems like it deletes quite a bit of existing parking (good!?)

November 27, 20231 yr I think the pedestrian promenade linking the Red Line station's second entrance and the proposed BRT station is the key element, at least to RTA and therefore any funding request they would make. It would drastically shorten the pedestrian connections between bus and rail rapid transit lines. From rail platform to BRT platform, it appears as if it would halve the distance from about 875 feet to 430 feet, according to Google Earth. December 4, 20231 yr A good tidbit of information from today's BOZA meeting. Dave Ferrante of Visible Voice Books bought two buildings on Lorain Ave last year (4517 and 4601 Lorain Ave). He recently bought 2022 W 45th and applied to change it's use from residential to office. This was approved to support office duties for the management of both Lorain locations. It was noted that 4517 Lorain Ave would become a guitar store (Guitar Riot) and 4601 Lorain Ave is where Visible Voice Books will move. For anyone who wants to work on “uh” in public speaker, here’s my unsolicited advice: The thing about “uh” in speaking is that it’s the brain’s way of filing dead air while our brain catches up with our mouth. We do it because a pause feels awkward. But here’s the deal - our audience doesn’t notice a pause anywhere near as much as the speaker notices it. So when speaking, anytime we catch ourselves about to say “uh”, instead, just pause. This gives our brain a chance to catch up. When you first start doing it, it feels a bit strange. Remind yourself that the audience is unlikely to even notice the pause. My experience has been that anyone who tries this “pause substitution technique” finds it much more effective than simply saying “I’m not going to say uh”. Added bonus - a dramatic pause can be a great way to really emphasize a point. And a pause also often helps in grabbing the attention of a person whose mind has drifted. When is the last time I-71 turned a profit?

I don’t know how they pay the rent. Between OHC and Tremont we will have OCB, Chipotle, Condado, Momocho, Avo, Clandestina, Barrio, and Cilantro as “Mexican” options. So many dining trends missing. And I don’t understand how Ginko and Dave’s are the only sushi options. I’m happy that Chipotle is investing in the neighborhood but it seems most new restaurants are chains. I’d love to support more local.

January 17, 20241 yr In my old neighborhood in D.C., Chipotle renovated a space similar to this. After many years it closed but a couple of really good local restaurants took over the space, including the current one my old neighbors tell me is doing really well. This seems like good news for Ohio City to me. Let Chipotle invest and make the space over and if they don't make it, someone else could take over without the huge renovation costs!
January 17, 20241 yr Still surprised Gillespie didn't get Chipotle to change course and go in with their drive through behind Intro on Abbey / Gehring. Both Chipotle's at W 117th and Cedar Fairmount struggled with quality out of the gate. And it is still more expensive than OCB. I can't remember the specifics of the special grant or loan program that was supposed to be funded by Steelyard to go towards local retail in the near west side but I also haven't heard much in the way of touting its success stories either. I'd agree @marty15it's had a cooling effect on local retail in the neighborhoods.

January 25, 20241 yr Voss redevelopment went in front of the landmarks commission today, everything they said sounded great should be a really good urban experience Because of the current economy they are looking to come back with a phase 1 that can start this year
