Oh gotcha. For whatever reason sirens have always sounded 10x louder on W. 25th. Not sure what other route exists in this instance. Maybe dial down the sirens just a little?

"anyone catch Sam McNulty's letter to the editor in the PD the other day about excessive noise from emergency vehicles and rerouting truck traffic away from W. 25th?"

No, but I complained to my councilwoman about this very thing on Clifton.  The ambulances are the worst, with the fire trucks second.  It's just stupid all the noise they make.  In Toronto they use flashers and very little noise.  Yet again we are behind the curve.

I want to be the lawyer who represents the injured plaintiff against the city (igoring posbbible sov. immunity issues) after hit by an emergency vehicle plowing through an intersection and the head of the EMS department states in deposition "Yes it is city and department policy to make as little noise are possible on an emergency run as we don't want to bother people."

Of course you do, because this is America and there is no way in hell we can reach a reasonable compromise wrt emergency vehicles because.....socialism?

Not to drive this off-topic, but anyone on West 25th has it easy compared to living ON Euclid Avenue on the border to East Cleveland and University Circle (where obviously UH and CC are a minute away) and having non-stop ambulances from East Cleveland, Euclid, Cleveland EMS... They are ridiculously loud and keep their sirens on and honking their horns heading down Euclid when there isn't a single car around them. I really wish they did implement some quiet zones. I could relax a little more. :|

I've got zero pity for sirens.  I lived on Case's campus for 4 years and have lived practically next door to the downtown fire station for 5 years now.  You learn to tone them out unless you're outside right next to them.  And they wouldn't have to be so friggin loud if pedestrians would obey the law....  It's all part of living in an urban area.  Move to BFE if you want peace and quiet!

McNulty raises a good point about this... Out-of-town friends of mine who I take to Ohio City often note that there are several fire trucks and/or other emergency response vehicles through W. 25th multiple times.  Something needs to be worked out esp. given the increasing positive congestion in the Market Square area.

There is are 2 major hospitals on the opposite ends of 25th.    This happens in any major metro where growth happens around hospitals.  As long as the bar revelers aren't parking in the streets and blocking traffic around 2 am, it shouldn't be that big of a deal.

got to get down to hingetown: introducing ohio city's next hot block

Lee Chilcote | Thursday, July 25, 2013

Over the next few months, a series of next-gen businesses will begin to open on W. 29th Street in the renovated Striebinger Block, complementing already thriving businesses like Rising Star Coffee Roasters and adding wattage to the Transformer Station’s already powerful jolt.

I have.  I still see nothing wrong with complaining about noise.

FWIW, lots of cities have tweaked operations of ambulance and fire crews to reduce noise. If vehicles are really heading downtown from Metro, for example, there's no reason they can't take the LC bridge.  Truck traffic is a harder issue that's plagued the Flats and adjoining areas for years.

Try living on Broadway in NYC.  It's part of living in a city which Cleveland is becoming again.

You really are over exaggerating.  No residential area on Broadway, from Battery Park to Inwood, is a comparison to Cleveland.

City neighborhoods are starting to repopulate, but I would never compare anything in NYC to another American city.

actually this really applies mainly to Manhattan. Don't you see similarities to other American cities in parts of the other boroughs?

Honestly no.  There are is one exception.

really? Not that I'm that familiar with Shaker hts, but I see parallels with Forest Hills and Kew Gardens in Queens. Similar architecture (from the same era--1920's), density. (someone help me here, please! lol)

sorry, this is way off topic. never mind

No exaggeration...I live on Broadway on the upper westside where many people live.

anyone catch Sam McNulty's letter to the editor in the PD the other day about excessive noise from emergency vehicles and rerouting truck traffic away from W. 25th?  Couldn't agree more.  Obviously the guy has a vested interest in reducing emergency response vehicles and heavy truck traffic, but there is really no other area in the city with a thriving entertainment district that has gravel trucks rumbling through the center every 10 mins...

Yeah, it's too bad Lutheran Hospital and West 25th Street were built after Market Garden Brewery.  Oh, wait...

No exaggeration...I live on Broadway on the upper westside where many people live.

I too have residencies in Cleveland and Harlem.  I disagree.

Skylight Financial Group plans to move offices, 100 jobs to Ohio City from downtown offices

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A financial-planning firm and roughly 100 workers plan to leave downtown Cleveland for Ohio City's West 25th Street, in the first significant white-collar migration to a neighborhood better known for bar-hopping and butchery.

Skylight Financial Group, a privately owned business affiliated with Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co., has signed a 10-year lease on the top floor of the United Bank Building at West 25th and Lorain Avenue.

Interesting location for a school. I suppose it is good to see development move in this direction though

Wonder why no site plan was submitted

Laziest "rendering" I've ever seen.  This is going on West 25th Street?

Compared to the nothing that's currently there, it's a step up. School's aren't typically known for their design...it's pretty much what one would expect (but it is definitely a lazy rendering).

Ohio City lands 'Palace of Fermentation' food retail and production center next year: Restaurant Row

Cleveland's market district will gain a major food shopping and tourism destination next year, when restaurateur Sam McNulty and his business partners open The Palace of Fermentation in the old Culinary Arts Building at 1849 West 24th St. at Bridge St. in Ohio City.

That wasn't always the case, was it?

I can't speak for always and of course there have been beautiful schools; however, I wouldn't say they are or have ever been the majority.

technically i think this belongs in the o.c. developments.  if i'm not mistaken, any commercial on the east side of w. 25th typically falls under ocnw, and once you cross the street to the west, it's all o.c. until you get to clark/metro area.

Yes, you are correct! The west side of this section of West 25th is Ohio City Inc. The East Side is Tremont West Development Corp.

Ohio City nabs Piccadilly Artisan Yogurt shop, to open this fall

By  Joe Crea, Northeast Ohio Media Group

on September 16, 2013 at 3:30 PM, updated September 16, 2013 at 3:31 PM

CLEVELAND, OHIO -- Ohio City continue to blossoms with food spots of every stripe, such as a second  location of Piccadilly Artisan Yogurt shop. The new store is planned to open sometime next month.

"I’ve learned to be cautious about predicting opening dates, having already changed it three or four times!” says co-owner Adrian Bota, 31.

The new shop will be sandwiched between Crop Bistro & Bar and Bonbon Pastry & Cafe in the 2500 block of Lorain Avenue, near the corner of West 25th Street.

http://www.cleveland.com/dining/index.ssf/2013/09/ohio_city_nabs_piccadilly_arti.html

"So we’re not going into the suburbs. Our interest is to be part of urban renewal, to take part in what’s happening, and be an active part of it," he says.

Bota's original store is at 1767 Coventry Road in Cleveland Heights, former home to the legendary Grog Shop. He intends to open only in urban settings, and is currently negotiating for a space in the Clifton Avenue-West 117th area.

A downtown Cleveland location may be in the locally based chain's future. Bota and his partners see growing potential.

"We're also looking at what Heinen’s has planned for its Cleveland store. We’re looking at downtown. We’ve had two developers approach us to go downtown, and we’re really contemplating and want to go downtown.

Pretty Cool :)

Nice one, Piccadilly! But does anyone have clarity on site? I don't understand how it will be "sandwiched between Crop Bistro & Bar and Bonbon Pastry & Cafe" ... Aren't those two businesses directly next door to one another? Is this going across the street, or is Crop vacating part of their floor space? Or am I just crazy and Bonbon only uses part of their street frontage?? Haha.

I believe there are technically three storefronts on that building, and Bonbon only uses the rightmost two of them.

Thanks! I could picture the two in operation but guess I just disregarded the third :)

jam40jeff is correct.

I was hoping for a Menchies in OC or downtown, but this is better.

And this is a great quote:  "We're also looking at what Heinen’s has planned for its Cleveland store. We’re looking at downtown. We’ve had two developers approach us to go downtown, and we’re really contemplating and want to go downtown."

Just shows the power of the Heinen's move to lure other businesses downtown.

^is this the plan for Heinens moving to FEB?  I didn't know that was still alive, if so (which would be great).

^Thanks!  I'm still blown away by how straightforward the process has been for this development team. Northern Ohio City is really taking off, it would seem.

I have heard that Ohio City Pasta may make a retail space/bar type place at their current location, which is right next to Mariners place.

What's the timetable on Mariners watch?
