April 19, 20169 yr The furniture store at 44th and Lorain has been cleared out. Does anyone know if there are plans for the space or if it's just a lease ending like the furniture store on 25th? Excited to see what ends up in these big spaces. In other solo news, The Plum semi opened today! Also, one of the store fronts west of the plum applied for a liquor license. Not sure what their plans are. re the furniture store: if the prospective tenant finalizes the lease, I think all will be very pleasantly surprised with this new retail use.

April 20, 20169 yr For clarification- That's the plan for the large Duck Island development, right? Love it, but interested to see how much that gets watered down in the end.
April 20, 20169 yr ^interesting. is that on the north side of Lorain around 20 St.? What's the status of it? That's TOD and much needed residential space for Ohio City. I hope at least some are 1-2-3-4 br condos not all apts.

April 20, 20169 yr Holy Smokes. I don't know how you get financing for a project like that, but I hope he can pull it off. I hope he adds a connection down to the lake link trail.
April 20, 20169 yr ^ First rule of UO: Never fall in love with a rendering!!! Fall in love with renderings all you want. Just don't get married to them. I love many of the works at the Cleveland Museum of Art and many of the incredible settings in modern video games. Doesn't mean I want to buy a condo in one. Holy Smokes. I don't know how you get financing for a project like that, but I hope he can pull it off. I hope he adds a connection down to the lake link trail. You get financing when you convey to lenders the unmet demand for housing in Ohio City. When a $500,000 house in Ohio City sells in four days, you know you're sitting on an untapped gold mine. April 20, 20169 yr This would be an amazing, game-changing project if it can be pulled off. I too will keep my fingers X'd.
April 20, 20169 yr Love it! But it annoys me when they use green roofs in the renderings and never follow through lol.
April 20, 20169 yr Anyone else old enough that they thought of this: (My apologies if anyone fell in love with and/or married this render....old wounds....the Lakefront Plan is a harsh mistress!!!!)
April 20, 20169 yr That lakefront conceptual design is one of my favorite renderings on UO. However, the lakefront rendering was from a design competition with dozens of entries and the new Ohio City towers appears to be market driven.
April 20, 20169 yr Those new renderings got picked up by Scene, though without much additional info: http://www.clevescene.com/scene-and-heard/archives/2016/04/20/massive-ohio-city-brickhaus-towers-project-looks-futuristic-af
April 20, 20169 yr Sam McNulty tweeted the HP Urban Website (http://hpaurban.com/portfolio-item/brickhaus-towers/) and Brickhaus replied on Twitter that there would still be a few tweaks to the final design. Scene picked it up from that exchange i believe
April 20, 20169 yr When I first gained interest in architecture and Cleveland I was always jealous of the projects,or maybe the momentum, that never came to fruition. These past couple years I've been blown away by the proposals. This just adds to the excitement.
April 20, 20169 yr Damn that's sexy! Talk about some amazing views. I'm still curious about the drive thru retail. Wondering if they're planning on bringing a Starbucks in...

May 5, 20169 yr Awesome news!! Ridiculous it was ever an issue. Cleveland apartment plan gets ready to roll "An investor group that includes real estate developer Fred Geis and his son Ethan Geis announced it will break ground Friday, May 6, for a 70-suite apartment complex at 3007 Clinton Ave. in Ohio City....Over the course of the last year, Fred Geis had observed that if he did not secure approvals to build the apartments he would continue to operate the existing building as a home for commercial uses." http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20160505/NEWS/160509882/cleveland-apartment-plan-gets-ready-to-roll#utm_medium=email&utm_source=ccl-dailynews&utm_campaign=ccl-dailynews-20160505
May 7, 20169 yr Strolling home from lunch, snapped a couple of pictures of the progress on W25th St Lofts. Really coming along.
May 7, 20169 yr Glad to see these places getting a new lease on life. Still lots of missing teeth along W.25th. Will be interesting to see the progress continue.
May 7, 20169 yr Very exciting project. Nice pics, but unfortunately I'm often overcome with confusion and embarrassment when I see those new bike lanes on W. 25, with the protective barrier on the wrong side... ugh
May 7, 20169 yr Very exciting project. Nice pics, but unfortunately I'm often overcome with confusion and embarrassment when I see those new bike lanes on W. 25, with the protective barrier on the wrong side... ugh Right, it's so disappointing. Then click on the Pittsburgh photo thread and they have actual isolated bike lanes.....come on CLE!!!
May 7, 20169 yr West 25th is a joke in this stretch. They need to lose half the lanes from Franklin to Detroit. No need for it to be this wide anymore.
May 8, 20169 yr Does anyone know if it is to be repainted, or will they remove the paint? It seems the slgns make it look like it will remain painted but I"m not sure. It would certainly make more of a statement back to the brick.
May 9, 20169 yr I don't think so. The city's transportation chief made it clear that the bike lanes will stay as-is and future protected lanes will be done as such (like W. 14 in Tremont). Sad.
May 9, 20169 yr I was very excited when they started working on it, thinking they'd do something to improve the streetscape on that stretch. Then I was disappointed when it turned out like this. Even if they kept the same number of lanes down that stretch, there is so much wasted space just having the edges striped off like that. You can't even park there. Could have easily been used to extend the sidewalks out, or move that extra space to put a median down the middle. As is its just a speedway where people accelerate up to 50-55mph just to come to a stop where it narrows down at Jay.

(Filed May 18, 2016) 9 Great to see. I have long hated all those ugly used car dealerships along Lorain that seem to proliferate like roaches, often at derelict gas stations, along this most important West Side artery with so much walkability potential. As we're seeing rehab and infill is slowly moving westward from St. Ignatius' campus and into the Antiques area and, fortunately, those car lots are slowly disappearing. I've been struck how really old some of these commercial buildings really are -- some even dating to the Civil War era. One such structure housed the still-missed Steve's lunch which burned last year (Lorain and W. 50(?))-- it had recently been rehabbed and was no longer the lovable shabby building it had been... it's now a weedy lot; unfortunate loss... The Lorain/40s-area development is a stark contrast to the dead-ness of this area of just a few years ago... Rome wasn't built in a day.
June 15, 20168 yr ^Has there been infill on Lorain? The commercial rehab market seems to be plowing ahead, which is great, but has there been new construction? Reminds me, anyone know if the McDonalds litigation at progressed at all?
