Those are going to be townhomes.

Looking at the renderings, it seems that some of the townhomes will have cinderblock on the lower level. I can never understand why anyone uses exposed cinderblock as a design choice. It’s ugly and cheap looking.  It reminds me of a basement.

The scale appears to large for concrete masonry units (cinderblock is no longer produced). It's probably a stone, slate or synthetic panel material.

Look at construction costs and materials and methods and get back to me.

Uhh..you could have just used the first response. It was pretty straightforward and understandable. Thanks for letting us know.

Ummmmm.... has anyone noticed the signage around the Brickhaus Development proposed site?

Less than appropriate, in my opinion. Obviously, it's a shame that the inappropriate part is a direct quote from our president... but inappropriate nonetheless.

I'm trying to put aside my biases here, but I admit my very strong bias against Donald Trump. Political speech on a billboard is the essence of the first amendment, is it not? I drove by a bunch of Trump billboards on the turnpike, sometimes at business establishments, and I didn't like it, but I wouldn't say it's inappropriate. Is it the profanity that bothers you? I don't think the guy could've made his point without it, and he censored every letter.

Definitely is. But not normal on real estate signage. Nonetheless, here we are talking about it... so mission accomplished

I admittedly thought that "Trump that b##@h" t-shirts being sold outside progressive field after a playoff game in October of '16 were inappropriate, but it seems different to me when you're quoting a guy and criticising vulgarity rather than simply being vulgar. The t-shirts did not censor the word like I did (or the developer did).

I had to double-take when I saw this sign. How completely bizarre for development signage. I understand it's their land and they can do whatever they want (within reason), but wow...

"Grab 'em by the %#[/member]&!" - Donald Trump. By the way, coming soon...the One West Twenty development!!! Strange.

It's classless. Also makes me question the decision-making abilities of the developer.

So, in sum, some people think Brickman's attempt at social commentary is out of line and others don't give a fork. If I may make a suggestion, perhaps this conversation can continue in the Cleveland World Class Signage thread, or perhaps a separate thread can be created so that this conversation can have a home where it is on topic.

^I was in Columbus last weekend and saw a couple developments of similar size where they used a crane for the build out. Anyone know why there are different methods/preferences for different projects? Or is there like a 5 floor threshold for that sort of thing?

^ Nice. Anyone else here secretly wishing that the building stayed, well not green of course, but some kind of other actual color?

YABO713[/member]  Snavely had a crane (sometimes two) on site while the exterior was being built vertical.

Hearing that planet fitness will be going into the former location of unique thrift.

The county should auction of their property across 25th from the snavely project, the northeast corner of 25th and detroit.  Seems like that land is too valuable now for what they have there.

If so, good addition for community health. I pay $10 a month in Rocky River and consider it a tremendous deal.

Bad bad architecture likely to remain for now i suppose. I wonder if the unique aroma of unique thrift will still be there?

It's good to keep some of those dumpy old buildings though, gets a good diversity of businesses in there who can't afford new construction.

Last I heard, things are in the works for that corner.

^ Is the County looking to move? They still have active operations there don't they.

Isn't that corner going to eventually be incorporated into the Irish Bend project which is in the study phase at this time?

EDIT: Now that I think about it I am wrong.  I am thinking of the southeast corner

Planet Fitness to Take Over Unique Thrift Store Location in Ohio City

In an email to Ohio City's SoLo residents, block club chair Julia Sieck revealed that fitness chain Planet Fitness had signed a lease on the Lorain Avenue building formerly occupied by Unique Thrift Store and recently commandeered by the Cleveland Flea.

Representatives from ADA Architects, the Lakewood-based firm managing the project, will reportedly attend the SoLo block club meeting Feb. 6. Sieck said she did not believe the gym would need any zoning variances but expected more detailed information at the meeting.

Nice to hear. One of my favorite little spots.

Gould said the building would not change all that much, but some modifications to the exterior, including new colors, and minor changes to the parking lot can be expected.

Uh oh. Hope you guys in OC like purple!

Had to laugh. I went to Beet Jar this morning for my daily juice (highly recommend btw) and there were two women in there who - for the purple hair and nose ring(s) - I will presume were liberal (forgive me if I'm wrong). And they were complaining about how Planet Fitness is going to come into the neighborhood and price residents out of being able to work out.

Couldn't help myself - I interjected and told them that Planet Fitness is $10/month and would likely be cheaper or equal to membership at a rec center. To which they replied, "Well if it's only $10/month they probably hire cheap workers."

^Yes, Feminista, they likely do. They'll likely hire local 18-22 year olds for part time jobs. Is that such a travesty?

Found some more information on the rock climbing gym going in to the old masonic arts center. Not sure when this was published, but it mentions an August 2018 opening which is pretty far off from the original March date:

HAHA.  when I used to drive more often I knew of all of the "free" places to park.  I am glad others have picked up where I left off.

^ There's a nearby storefront showing an alternate plan for this site. It's actually much better looking than the real plan imho, the roofs were gabled. I guess I'm just not a fan of flat roof designs.

Anyhow good to see more development.

The plans in the storefront would cost twice as much to build. While the design is beautiful, this architect is well known for designing buildings without regard to a budget. That said, the developers' plans for the w.41st/Lorain building are pretty awful.
