For real?  There are numerous vacant/underused buildings within visual distance of the current location that it could move to and still serve the same exact population.

Doesn't even sound like the owner of Hot Dog Inn wants to be in it for much longer. According to the article, he might just take the money and retire. I honestly don't blame him, although I do hate to see greasy spoon spots fall by the wayside.

And what's also encouraging is that the block club seems to be very cooperative with the developer too.

Edited by YO to the CLE

I hope the developer salvages the sign for the new retail establishment, should the owner of the Hot Dog Inn get a burst of energy for a few years or simply sells the business.

Sounds like a cool project, and glad to see some interesting stuff going in there, although no details on timing in the article.

It really will be.  The development of that area will help connect Hingetown to the main stretch on W 25th.

That corner definitely needs some help.  I am down with this.

Also, The Awning Company building at 2067 W41st changed hands.  Allegedly townhomes to be built on the site.

Took a walk last night and got some progress pictures of construction sites.

Church and State (sorry about the dumpsters in the first pic, I just thought the ramp was neat)

Seeds & Sprouts III - Early intel on real estate projects

Ohio City: Properties transfer for Irishtown Bend Park

A notable event occurred June 17 in the progress toward building the 17-acre Irishtown Bend Park above the Cuyahoga River. That's when eight parcels totaling 6.9 acres located between Riverbed Street and West 25th Street transferred from the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority (CMHA) to Riverbed West, LLC -- a dba for the West Creek Conservancy.

Thanks for posting this KJP.  I've been looking for news updates on this park.  If done right, this has the potential to be one of the coolest urban parks in the country

If the plan is a park north of the CMHA towers, it would be great to see a few new high rises across the street!

I am on the last street in Ohio City, westbound, and since we moved in, there have been over 7-8 homes bought within 20 homes either way of us, extremely exciting. This includes the house next door, which I thought would lie vacant forever until the raccoons eventually created their own semi-autonomous state.

Now we just need Detroit to develop more between Hingetown to 54th. Think a high school is a net positive or negative to investment nearby?

I don't like that high school there.  terrible land use.  So much more could've gone there.  The school will sit empty outside of normal school hours.  Doesn't add residential investment, creates a bottleneck for bus access, creates safety issues with all the kids having to cross the street to get to it...  creates no taxable property value...

Were any renderings or plans from Carnegie made public for the RTA Columbus Road RFP?

No. Still very early on in the process. RTA staff merely has board approval to pursue an agreement with Carnegie at this point. If/when that is approved by the board, then you'll see some drawings in the months thereafter.

Correct. It's replacing the old public housing development slated for demo where they are gonna build the new Irishtown bend park.

That location isn't in Ohio City. It's in Clark-Fulton. And it for St. Joseph’s Commons, a development project for Front Steps, which is transitional housing for women in trouble/need. It is being developed by PIRHL and includes a 4-story, 60-unit permanent supportive housing project. There is more coming to this development. For more, see.....

Correct, and it is Ohio City, technically.  Though most don't recognize that little sliver of a neighborhood as such.

That's awesome!  This might really happen!!

This park is going to be incredible. With Hingetown rising as a backdrop.

They could move the 4th of July fireworks show to across the river, down behind Merwin’s. Downtown directly behind...

Dreaming over here.

Its going to completely change the City.

I take Franklin Road Hill to the gym every morning and lament at what the hill looks like - This project is going to be absolutely transformative and crucial to the sustainability of Ohio City with families with children. My wife and I had a conversation last night about how much more likely this project makes us to have an raise children (at least for a little while) in Ohio City instead of immediately leaving for a suburb when we have kids.

Really excited.

Props to Rob Portman and Sherrod Brown as well - that is what good government fights for.

CMHA will make a fortune!

That would make sense, or cents...hey oh!

Is the plan for there to be continuous park from Detroit all way to Franklin?  Some of the renderings I've seen seem to exclude several of the parcels that front W 25 - particularly the building on the corner or W 25 and Detroit.  Also, I really hope they can at least clean up some of those trees on the northern portion of the CMHA property.

Regardless, this will be a fun project to watch.  Now is the time to buy real estate in Ohio City.

Let's all send an email to Portman and Brown and send them our thanks.  We send emails when we have concerns, so let's send emails when we have praise:)

Board of Zoning Appeals

AUGUST 12, 2019

9:30 Calendar No. 19-175: 1944 West 32 Street Ward 3 Kerry McCormack

St. Ignatius High School, owner, proposes to convert building to school in a B1 Two-Family Residential District. The owner appeals for relief from the strict application of the following sections of the Cleveland Codified Ordinances: 1. Section 337.02 which states that a public or private school is permitted in a one or two family residential district if located not less than thirty (30) feet from any adjoin premises in a residence District, and subject to the review and approval of the Board of Zoning Appeals. Such review consists of public notice and public hearing, a determination if adequate yard spaces and other safeguards to preserve the character of the neighborhood are provided, and if in the judgement of the Board such building and uses are appropriately located and designed and will meet a community need without adversely affecting the neighborhood. Campus parking plan should be presented at the hearing. Lot for proposed use is abutting residential district. 2. 341.02 Review and approval of the Cleveland Landmarks Commission is required. Love this building, though don’t see the need to cover it in a thin brick veneer. AT ALL.

Might be to match the other Ignatius buildings?

Would it definitely be new brick veneer or are they planning to daylight the original brick behind the old stone veneer?

Three of the illustrations posted above label the siding as “thin brick veneer”.
