May not be your perfect development, but there are are mixed used areas being built. It would be nice to have for sale condos and hope to happen soon. This park will be a gamechanger for connecting Ohio city to the river front and improve the neighborhood massively. I believe I saw a prospective hotel was being proposed by Bookhouse Brewing but was working on finalizing financing as well. Ha poison ok.

I think this will be wonderful green space and unite the west bank and ohio city with many recreational needs. Lets hope the programming is right. In theory it would be great for a nice development there... BUT the hill is too unstable to build on and to help get the millions of dollars just to reengineer the hillside it's requiring several non-profits and government agencies to help complete the project! Not to mention the millions required afterwards to do the park.
September 26, 20195 yr The west side of 25th will be ???. Narrowing 25th 30 feet needs to be part of this plan.
September 26, 20195 yr I believe that a redo of West 25 Street is part of the long term plan to save the hill, create the park, and add bike lanes and to narrow the roadway too. And in the future to add more components to the MetroHealth RTA BRT Line along West 25 Street.

Developers are salivating over it. Stakeholders are trying to find a way to pay for a big parking deck to scoop up all those surface lot spaces north of the hospital and put them south of the hospital. How about a publicly financed parking deck, perhaps combined with some sort of ground-floor public use facilities like a job training center, a new location for the McCafferty Health Center, a business incubator or something else.? I know I am a silly boy for even imagining this but you would think that there would be a department at the Clinic which is responsible for implementing such visions or something similar. What KPG describes is really a no brainer and a win win for the hospital and neighborhood. But I know I dream. If the Foundation is completely uninterested in ancillary development around their man campus-as has been shown time and time again-they certainly are not going to put the time and energy into Ohio City.

October 8, 20195 yr Apologies if this has already been posted here - I did a quick skim of this thread back through August and didn't find this mentioned anywhere. I was poking around on Zillow and noticed these condos for sale on what is currently an empty lot. From what I can find, the oldest listing is 38 days old. https://www.zillow.com/b/3703-Clinton-Ave-Cleveland-OH/41.487096,-81.714099_ll/
October 8, 20195 yr Interesting. That proposal is several years old, and I thought it was dead. Maybe they have brought it back and dusted it off. Wish they'd get a better design, though. That is one ugly condo building!

Switching gears to another project (but staying on the topic of winter weather)... With Church + State slated for a Spring 2020 completion, I'd imagine the majority of the exterior work will be completed by winter, allowing construction teams to make headway on the interior during the colder months? As a side note - the fifth and final story has been built atop the shorter building that will stand at the corner of Church and 28th.

October 21, 20195 yr Church + State is growing up fast!! Also, wasn’t able to snap a pic, but Snavely’s next phase across from the Quarter has lots of activity and has a giant pit right now. October 23, 20195 yr Does anyone else think the plan to construct a whole series - is it seven? - of tiny traffic circles (one could say "islands") all the way down Franklin Boulevard in and past Ohio city is kinda dumb? I really like bringing back Franklin Circle (I wonder if any of the old brick from the old circle will be retained) and changing the speed from 35 mph to 25 mph is fine but all these little circles? Does anyone know of a street in Greater Cleveland where many islands have been added in like manner? I'm referring to a residential street, of course. I'd like to drive there and see what it's like.
October 23, 20195 yr I don’t know of any in greater cleveland, but N Grant Street in Columbus night be similar. (N Grant and East 7th Ave)
October 23, 20195 yr Uniontown and Hartville Ohio just South of Akron have installed 3 traffic circles recently along 619 at Myersville Rd, Kaufman Ave, King Church Ave. They look really nice and help ease traffic out of the Hartville flea market/kitchen/hardware. My only frustration with them are that their circumference is too tight on a country road with a 45mph speed limit, so you have to drop your speed in half. I know this is a lot less urban than Ohio City, but 2 of the roundabouts are only about a hundred yards apart and it seems to work.

October 23, 20195 yr This is the study, from last year. Let's keep in mind the study did not propose real traffic circles but small pavements in the center of the residential street as a traffic calming measure.
October 23, 20195 yr Let’s keep in mind what? You mentioning putting traffic circles in was a dumb idea. But they’re not really traffic circles? This is actually the first I heard of this plan outside of Franklin Circle. So the calming measures are dumb? or the non circle, circles are dumb? Edited November 17, 20195 yr by marty15

October 23, 20195 yr Shaker has something similar, but permanent, on Avalon north of Van Aken (probably on other side streets too, but that's the only one I know of). The curbs come out on both sides to narrow the road down to one lane. The city has the bump outs filled with flowers. They definitely have the intended effect, as people slow down dramatically. Hopefully they're looking at something closer to Shaker's for Franklin.

October 24, 20195 yr Can’t think of an example on NEO, but Coral Gables, Florida has a ton of micro circles. They’re annoying, but they’re super effective. I think it’s the only orderly driving I’ve ever witnessed in SoFlo.
October 24, 20195 yr I think this is in the kind of mini-roundabout the plan is imagining. Not as drastic as a full circle but should slow down cars. Aesthetically looks pretty nice imo. Pic from NACTO:

October 24, 20195 yr Chicago has them all over the north side in residential neighborhoods. I mentioned this a while back, that Ohio City had a lot of silly little traffic lights that might be better served by a well designed 4 way stop. Cleveland seems to have too many of the residential area traffic lights that would be expensive to maintain I'd think. The ones along Bridge Ave..especially by Heck's comes to mind
October 24, 20195 yr If I was Mayor of Cleveland, I'd implement a strategy to make the city more walkable by adding a ton of this kind of thing to promote walkability and healthy lifestyle. Mayor Daly did it in Chicago in the late 90's...4 way stops at tons of intersections with bump outs and clearly marked cross walks, and these little roundabouts. Drivers bitched about it, but it worked and drivers calmed down. I'd call the program Cleveland Walks! (play on Cleveland Rocks...duh)and make it a city wide initiative and a public awareness campaign. The city already has a good sidewalk infrastructure in place....unlike newer cities. (edit) Every council person would be able to do all over their ward in my program, not just in cute neighborhoods. Edited October 24, 20195 yr by metrocity
