When it takes over my life and living space.

I spent all night building a site model of Detroit.  Now my apartment looks like Detroit.

I guess that's why we have studio space.

I know the stitching job is terrible.  This was my second attempt.

Where are your window treatments?  Is that the size of your entire crib?

Wow, Detroit sure is a mess these days.

Replace those Coke cans with 40s and I'll say yeah, definitely Charlevoix between Chene and Mt. Elliot.

Nice touch with the picture on the laptop.

yup - thats about how I rememer it from school, myself...

now let's see the model.

Yeah, the image is the first attempt at photo stitching the above image.  For a second, i thought it would be one of those cool image within an image within an image kind of things.

MytwoSense,

I don't have any window treatments for the living room, so I just place boards over the window for privacy.  I live on the second floor, so it's not like anyone can see in off the street.  But my bedroom has blinds over the windows though.

kingish,

There's a bunch of empty 40's out on the fire escape, does that count?

Here's the damn model:

It's a massing model for a new Cobo Convention Center downtown.

For a second, i thought it would be one of those cool image within an image within an image kind of things.

Since you were saying that your apartment looks like Detroit, I thought the image of the room on the computer screen was supposed to be representative of the Ren Center....a self contained city within the city kinda thing....

OK.  I was about to say, my clothes wouldn't even fit in that apartment.  From the angle you took the picture, your place looks smaller than an a small East Village Studio apartment.  I have window treatments, you never know what your nosey neighbors are looking at  --  unless you secretly want them to look.  8-)

Detroit is whiter than I remember...

^ As in the apartment or my model of the city?

ColDayMan, are you trying to set me up into saying something?

They're replacing Cobo? It really should be bigger.

Nice model.

Maybe...

I like the clock. I assume they use the BIG10 logo as the 12?

Yes.  The logos are arranged to what you might think of as a number.  Ohio State is 1 because the O is like "One"

I'm away from my apartment right now, so I can't remember, but I think Michigan's block M is the eleven.

It's a dumb clock really, it doesn't even work.  The battery ran out 2 years ago and it's been stuck at 9:00 ever since.

ColDayMan, what do you think of my Detroit river?  It's architectural.

I made the surrounding buildings out of medium density fiberboard.  It makes them appear less flashly.  That's a big thing in the design industry because architects don't want clients to care about surrounding buildings in fear it will take away from their own.  So they gray them out in their proposals to make everyone think their building is the best and the rest sucks.

This is just like my apartment.  My walls are grayed out as well.  Your focus is turned to everything else.  To be honest, I don't give crap if people think it looks like concrete, or that my landlord is having a hard time finding a tenant for next year.  It was the cheapest paint at home depot and covered up the fire damage from the previous tenant.  This can be thought of as like when Detroit fixed up its fire damaged buildings for the Superbowl.

Just add some scarlet to that gray and I bet it will sell really fast!

Or go down in flames.

Or at the very least an eviction notice.

How much did you pay for that plasma?

Im a fan of the hardwood floors.

Hardwood is the way to go.  I cringe when I see wall-to-wall carpet, especially in a bathroom.

Say what?

I hate architecture a bit less cause I just landed a job in Chicago (I'm out here right now).  But I'm going into urban planning for grad school next year so hmmm.

The Cobo massing model is sheets of foamboard glued togther?

I spraypainted a block of wood I found in the trash.  That's how much Cobo means to me lol.  Actually that turned out quite nice.  I might do that again.
