Posted March 5, 200718 yr So a few of my friends are in charge for planning a Bachelor Party. I'm looking to see if anyone has recent experience there. The best case scenario is that someone has recently rented a house/cottage there and can provide contact points. Or just share your experiences in similar situations, i.e. large group and large amounts of beer. Few Issues: 1) This is a bachelor party, we are going to be loud and drunk. But we aren't meat heads who are going to break things and leave a mess behind. 2) I've found a few property companies online who either specify a) No bachelor parties or b) A quiet curfew, and some companies even threaten a $250 Charge on the credit card if there is even one complaint. This is unacceptable. 3) We are looking at labor day weekend, though cost isn't that large of an issue. 4) Probably 6-10 guys. Thanks in advance!
March 5, 200718 yr I've booked a week at Kelly's Island in August. I've found that places can book up very quickly.
March 5, 200718 yr For years my friends would rent out a couple of the "villas" at St. Hazards on Middle Bass Island. It was pretty convenient, the short boat ride to and from put-in-bay was always really entertaining, and it has a decent pool and bar.. The villas are really just glorified trailers but they do the job and comfortably fit I'd say 6 people each. All guys though maybe less.. We never had any complaints against us and we weren't the quietest bunch (did it all through college and a few years after). I should say we stopped going because of a perceived decrease in quality of the place. I say perceived because personally I thought the place was always the same and just our tastes were just becoming more discerning as we grew up. Either way, I wouldn't call it dumpy but it ain't the ritz.
March 5, 200718 yr on the website near the bottom it even advertises for bachelor parties at that place.
March 6, 200718 yr wow. I can't believe this thread started b/c I was going to start one, but thought OU may not be best place to do it. But I guess it is, thanks Pope! This summer will be 5 years in the big Ohio, and while since living here,I have left the country a few times and state frequently, I never explored my very own back yard. I tend to frequent an area of about 3 square miles and need to expand! The island web sites seem full of dead links, and the ones that are working lead me to either frat party barracks, or these horrible B and Bs that look like grandma's musty guest room, with brass accents, wall paper, and paisley quilt. I can only assume that the proprietor is some musty grandma. So- what is I like a modest, clean room, nature, a beach, and a decent burger shack or bar (microbrewery, that'll sure work) for a couple days r and r. . Jax- this Hazard place...do the cabins or villas have electricity? Is it reasonably clean? Can a scooter (not a kids scooter but a licensed motor vehicle) be taken out there? I sounds like Middle Bass is the most laid back, then Kelly's then Put in Bay? thanks all I am a real island virgin. (Pope sorry, I hope I am not jacking your thread, good luck finding a place!)
March 6, 200718 yr Yes, the trailers (villas) have electricity, TV and A/C (although if you turn it up too high it freezes itself, which is weird. but it keeps it nice at night as long as you don't do that). They do have cabins as well -- I forgot we stayed in them one year when we had a smaller crowd. They have electricity as well, but I can't remember if they had A/C or not. I don't think so. I would definitely say it's clean until you make it un-clean like we would do in about 30 minutes. They have a cleaning staff that comes around and cleans after every check out, but I don't think they come on a daily basis. There was one year we had a cleanliness issue, but the front desk took care of it. A scooter is a great idea -- that'll be really cool to drive around the sort of mysterious Middle Bass Island (MBI) as well as Put-In-Bay (PIB). PIB does rent golf carts, which are kind of fun to load up with people and tool around on, but they're pretty pokey. I know you'll definitely be able to get to and around St. Hazards with it (you'll need to pay a slightly more expensive ferry rate), but I'm unsure of how you'll get it from from MBI to PIB. I think that boat is pedestrian only, but I could be wrong. Call the St. Hazards people, they'll definitely know and they're really friendly. There is a small beach accessible from St. Hazards, at least the last time I was there which was a few years ago. They were in the process of building a condo building along the shore near it so it's possible it turned private. Double check with the Hazards people. Don't know about microbrews, but the winery on PIB is fun. MBI is definitely more chill than PIB. Really the only thing on MBI is St. Hazards.. Although it's a bit of a party crowd at St. Hazards, but not out of control so. If nothing else they just don't have the vast numbers of people as PIB so it's not as rowdy. But the people that are there are largely drinking and having a good time laying around, playing frisbee, etc.
March 6, 200718 yr Here is where I'll be staying for a week in August: http://www.kelleysisland.com/zettlers/ I loved it when my out of state in-laws suggested that we all vacation in the Lake Erie islands this summer. We chose Kelley's because its large, has a lot of nature, and has a winery/microbrewery, and some decent recreational activity. Also, we love the old lakefront cottages!
March 6, 200718 yr wow that looks really nice. I am feeling torn b/c Kelly's and MB. nature- aesthetically pleasing wise do to you all have any thoughts re: the various islands?
March 14, 200718 yr Friends of my parents own this place on Put-In-Bay. They are very nice and down to earth people you might want to check out the website. Off the top of my head I'm not sure what their thoughts are on bachelor parties but it wouldn't hurt to ask. I also don't know if they are all booked up or not but you can check out the website if you'd like. http://www.harrietshouse.com/
