But it also highlights how barren, ugly and unwelcoming Superior is… if I lived here I would be itching for the Midway to start. I’m curious if the other side and other areas of Superior will look a bit better around this project.
April 5, 20232 yr Superior is the result of poor planning (wide streets, long stretches of parking) combined with the city’s utter disregard for making anything look better. The bike lanes can’t come quickly enough!

April 5, 20232 yr if i was the kang of clev instead of a simcity wannabe i would will these guys every one of those parking lots — tech center, crazy horse, cousins cigar lots etc. all along the eastside of e13st to lakeside to develop with these modern mansard townhouses. and build a parking garage with retail on the western street facing side at st clair to make up for it. what a nice look it would be. i’m sure they would love to do that too if they could lol.
April 5, 20232 yr The city should retain its development incentives at least for specific zones like Superior Avenue - especially in areas where new development would be transformative. Those townhomes do have great street presence - even some trees! - and just need more healthy company around them. And there’s no reason why a few shiny new higher rise residential buildings wouldn’t be just lovely.

If I were to petition the kang of Cleve, I'd ask for these types of townhomes - preferably with nice staircases in the front - in every parking lot from here to the Brownstone Inn on Prospect. The Brownstone Inn really is a hidden gem in Downtown though, more developments that look like it and The Avenue could bring Cleveland’s urban core up to par with other rust belt cities like Pittsburgh and St. Louis

April 11, 20232 yr I walked by the development last weekend and was pleasantly surprised by the newer units. The added height and brick facade are a significant upgrade over most of the units in earlier phases. We need more townhomes of this caliber throughout the city.

Usually you see a gradual drop off of height. Like the google earth view below I'm just curious what the cause of the underdevelopment for the right side of the pic once you pass Erieview Tower? I would expect it to have been more like the left side of the pic as you can see a more gradual drop off in height and not just a 100 - 0 immediate. Sorry if I'm rambling it was just always curious to me once I moved here.

Sorry if I'm rambling it was just always curious to me once I moved here. St. Clair/Superior/Lakeside were never as developed as Euclid- though it was still low to mid-rise mixed-use density. Then in the 60's nearly everything in the area in question- from East 9th out though the teens, from Chester to the lake bluff- was demolished as part of the Erieview Urban Renewal plan. The western edge of that along East 9th and 12th was rebuilt with modern office towers, the eastern portion was not and remained mostly parking.
