Skylines Combined--Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati =)

My dad once told me that if you were to put downtown Cleveland in New York City, no one would notice.  So with the similar thinking of moving skylines, I got to wondering what all three major Ohio skylines would look like together.  After a little time messing around with various images, a skyline began to form.  (I used techically 4 waterfront views all coming from Lake Erie, Scioto River?, and the Ohio River to blend as the common theme).  And with the help of powerpoint, paint, and an early version of photoshop, my image finally came together.  I give you:

Ohio City!! (oh wait, that name is taken...)

Tri -C!! (damn, that's taken too.  Thanks again Cleveland...)

Well, the name will come. Behold!

If we combined all the skylines in the state, it'd honestly be Los Angeles Bunker Hill + El Paso.

Oh, and to all the Clevelanders, I apologize for not keeping the "key" on Key Tower ("the eye of Sauron" - MayDay) and not having all that scaffling on Terminal Tower.

is this anywhere near scale?

is this anywhere near scale?

To the best of my ability.  Why?  What looks out of place?

wow... it almost approaches Atlanta!

^No not enough gaps to be Atlanta.

wow that would be so cool!

Thomasbw, actually I did cheat a little ...I did skrink Cleveland down by what I thought was about 20-30 m so it wouldn't dwarf the other skylines, but after looking at the math, I skrunk it more like 80-90 m.  I have a new rendition, but it shows Cleveland dwarfing everything, so I'm a little hesitant to post it. Aesthetically, I still prefer my first attempt.

Cincinnati:

01. Carew Tower 175 m

02. PNC Tower 151 m

03. Scripps Center 143 m

Columbus:

01. Rhodes State Office Tower 192 m

02. LeVeque Tower 169 m

03. William Green Building 162 m

Cleveland:

01. Key Tower 289 m

02. Terminal Tower 216 m

03. 200 Public Square 201 m

What the heck, here it is anyways:

Aw, c'mon! Go ahead and post the scale image.

Pretty cool project.

That is still out of scale, as the Rhodes Tower should be near the same height as the old BP Building and Carew should be taller than LeVeque in that photo.  But I suppose one will never have an accurate representation.

Ok, give me one sec

Attempt 3

Now I'm going to bed...(damn losing one hour...)

Ha ha now Cincinnati looks too tall. :-D Carew is just slightly taller than The tower at Erieview. And no where near Rhodes in height.

I'm done editing.....no more!

I'm never posting again...(I say that about drinking all the time..)

I think it all just depends on perspective, I mean some of those building are in front of, or behind others, thus making them look taller, or shorter then they actually are side by side...

So. I love it, great job!

Cinclebus looks great!

Pay no attention to the nitpickers ...

I would move cincinnati to the far left to create a more symetical step down from the center.

Okay, now take out Rhodes State Tower.

And leave it out.

wheres cleveland's federal courthouse tower??

It's blocked by Rhodes Tower.

wait a sec... you titled these skylines "Better Than Chicago"?  lol ;)

I love the use of the Cuyahoga River as a Chicago River-esque feature...really adds a cool dynamic to Cinclebus!  Nice work...definitely interesting to see.  I guess if Ohio was a 1 city state like Indiana, then there would be no discussion over whether downtown Indy has a better downtown than whoever!  It would definitely be "look out Chicago"!  With a CSA around 9 million or so.

Great job.

Now start photoshopping in all of the towers that have been proposed over the past 20 years. :-D

Cool! I personally think that Key Tower should be moved over to the Cincy neighborhood of Cinclebus. Just gives the skyline more balance, imho.

Congratulations, Murray Hill, for coining the bold new genre of Skyline Porn.

Nicely done! I'd like to see some combos with other skyline views as well!

Couldn't agree more. Nicely done on the name too. Cinclebus...rolls off the tongue so well.

Nice work!

And "Cinclebus" is probably the third funniest word I've heard today!

First attempt is still the best, thanks for the cool post.

And "Cinclebus" is probably the third funniest word I've heard today!

...gotta ask - what were the first and second funniest?

I like the first rendering better, but Cleveland does look more accurate in the latter with the pixilation.

I absolutely love what I'm seeing.I would pay you to add a few youngstown buildings. Better yet....do a Youngstown/Canton/Akron setting with a tad of Dayton.

A "Cinclebus" sounds like something I ought to go the doctor to get lanced.

I would like to see a Mansfield/Lima/Steubenville combo next.  That'd be awesome!

left out the Nationwide bldg in C-bus ;-( - well I suppose you took the tallest (although I thought Nationwide was in the top 3 in columbus? --- Actually, isn't the workers comp bldg, nationwide, aep, and the courthouse roughly the same height?)

Anyway, fun to see - thanks for the post =)

Unfortunately, the One Nationwide Plaza didn't appear in any Columbus skyline views I could find.  Any picture I found of it, it was pretty much by itself.  I don't really know the skyline to well, so I didn't have any perspective where to put it.  Would it go best roughly over where Cincinnati is??

Thanks!  I unfortunately don't have the time to focus much on this right now.  This was more just to give me a study break and allow me to do something that’s not related to chemistry (my current religion).  Maybe down the road we can talk about it.

QFT and bumped for great justice! ;p

Nice work Murray.

I would suggest making a version with your own ideas in it as well.  Change a few more buildings here, adjust a few locations there or put in stuff you'd wanna see in your skyline..  You don't have to do it, I'm just saying you might find it fun to do.

I have heard the cries, comments, and suggestions....here's a little more of an addition:

I like how the photo gets less pixelated as it gets to the Queen City.

That's a really cool idea.  Nice job!

Columbus' skyline is very drawn out - To the very north (the left on your pic) it would go something like this - Nationwide bldg; AEP; Worker's Comp; Rhodes; LeVeque; Huntington; the green-topped one (lol); 5/3; Courthouse - at least the main ones -

At least this is how I remember it - living in seattle now -

Here's a shot from the east looking west - so in reality the pov of your pic would be flipped for this one - http://www.pbase.com/kblanken/image/33783736

Anyway - cool project - reminds me of those calendars that used to be around with skylines in exotic locations -

Should of been named Rivage. ;-)

fun stuff -- i'm trying to think of a real city that kinda/sorta compares to. philadelphia?

I'm pretty sure philly doesn't have nearly as many skyscrapers -

Why not NYC.  Philly has never been that much of a skyscrapper city.

Philly to me is like Cleveland.  If you are not looking at downtown for a certain angle/vantage point it looks bad.

Philly's skyline is unimpressive.

^ I absolutely agree.....unless you are looking at Cleveland from the West Shoreway, or a vantage point from the East (Mayfield Hill) it looks like there aren't many buildings (due to the fact the big 3 dominate)..but when looked at from those two vantage points, I think it looks pretty damn good!

Or if you're out on a boat on Lake Erie or driving accross I-490, downtown looks pretty big.

I like it viewed from the Southeastern neighborhoods, though Key,BP, and the At&t building seem to bleed together.

Sorry about the power lines
