If you've never experienced the fake turf most that local high schools have as a playing surface, go lay down on one and you'll never want it at Washington Park. The rubber pellets and fake blades of grass stick to everything. I'd rather sit in the Wash Park grass/sandy soil today than a fake turf field.

July 11, 20177 yr As of last Thursday, July 6, the renovated and expanded Washington Park has been open for 5 years. I remember on opening day, a huge crowd was there to enjoy the park (3CDC says 1,500 people visited that day). And there was also a group of anti-development activists holding signs like "Washington Park is the People's Park". They were somehow convinced that the new park would be "exclusive" or was an attempt to push them out of the neighborhood. But if you visit today, you'll find an awesome park packed with an incredibly diverse mix of people. And it's cleaner and safer than ever before. Over the past five years, the park has hosted numerous events, from workouts to movies to CityFlea to MidPoint Music Festival. It has spurred a huge amount of development on the surrounding blocks, and arguably was a motivating factor for the recent renovations of Music Hall and Memorial Hall, as well as the construction of the new Cincinnati Shakespeare Company theater. I'm surprised I haven't seen anything in the local media (or even from 3CDC) promoting the fifth anniversary of the park's reopening. Back when the northern half of the park was a deep hole:

That sounds like it could actually just be the name of it.
