I went to the St. Patrick's Day parade this past Saturday. By the way, it was the one in Savannah, Georgia, which is one of the largest outside of NYC.

Tons of pics from the South, will be forthcoming! Stay Tuned!!!

I have one question...how is it that the "largest outside on NYC" is defined?  I find it hard to believe that Savannah would be bigger than Boston or Chicago.  I know that Pittsburgh claims to have the biggest outside of NYC, but not quite sure where they come up with these "facts".  Cleveland's never seems to be mentioned in the top 5 or 10...but it is one of the older ones...it is ALWAYS ON St Paddy's Day...has many participants...and last year had 375,000 spectators....so who knows where the boasting rights come from?

Nice pics BTW....looked a LOT warmer there than what it was in Cleveland!

Damn, it's unbelievable how many people on these forums can't read.  "One of the largest outside of NY" is not the same as THE LARGEST outside of NY. I hate to go off, but I seem to have to deal with this type of nonsense every time I post. A little careful reading goes a loooooong way.

By the way, there were tons of people along a very twisty route. The pics don't come close to showing them. I tried to avoid the crowds.

If you google this parade, you will see that Savannah does claim it to be second to NY, but I never claimed that.

to avoid this, in the future, just say, "one of the largest........."

I read "one of the largest" right away unless edited- and I always heard this through the years about Savannah (perhaps the most beautiful southern city) ...this was long before I  ever lived in a place that is so sensitive about the day! I don't talk about much about  SP b/c no matter what you say people get touchy. Looks like a good time.

Well, anywho, great shots!

are we gonna get a thread on savannah other than this? i'd like to see more for sure. also, where did you stay? it looked like everything was all expensive b&b's when i was looking into it.

also, i have always heard savannah has a big irish parade too, i have no idea why.

think gone with the wind.  lots of Irish Plantation owners back, back, back in the day.

All of the hotels were sold out. I had to stay on Hilton Head.
