Here's the New Black Panther Party leader giving praise to Obama 6 months after 9/11. Why weren't the New Black Panthers prosecuted by the Department of Justice?

You sure you meant to say "Obama?" I heard him praise Osama Bin Laden, but I didn't hear anything about Obama in that video! I heard him mention Bush and Rumsfield; Bush was still in his first term then.

You might want to edit your post again and fix that, too.

OSAMA!

Scrabble's unfortunate spelling mistakes are what I think Fox News wants us to hear, even when they use the right words.

And the video was...meh. Frankly, if I were black, I don't think I'd trust the government too much either, especially a Republican administration. Rightly (but I think wrongly), those guys were just connecting two threads that few would dare to do.

What exactly does this have to do with race?  Dont bring your political posturing and racist comments to this thread.

LOL, we need a thread for the Justice Department/New Black Panther case.  Is that what you're saying?

Scrabble - there ARE black extremists.  Everyone knows that.  But NEWSFLASH.... there are white extremists TOO, yet you never seem to post any articles/videos on them.  Not very "fair and balanced" of you...

The point is the prosecution of the guys at the polling station.  It's about equal justice under law.  We're a nation of laws and not of men and apparently SOMEONE at the DOJ stepped in and dismissed the case against the New Black Panthers.

The praising of Osama bin Laden after 9/11 is just really crazy.  These guys are just terrorists in waiting and should be treated as such.

Glenn Beck is a terrorist but I don't see a post on him in this thread!

LOL are you for real?  He's a TV clown like Olbermann.

No, he's a terrorist on the tube.  Olbermann is just a guy from ESPN-moved-to-MSNBC-ranting-about-anything.

I think that's a bit extreme.  It's not like he has any real power. You can always just change the channel or turn off the TV.  He may be a fruitcake but I don't think he wants anyone to be hurt.

I think he wants to hurt people.  I also think the power of television is more understated than you believe.  For example: Tea Party!

I agree.  People of color and the poor are his targets.

Interesting that Stop-Obama.org is run by a Democrat: http://www.stop-obama.org/

That's some crazy paranoia.  How many of his shows have you watched completely?

I'm not paranoid.  I just know the signs of blatant racist like him.

Again, this thread is being turned into politics thread, when MY intent was to talk about the heritage of the members of UrbanOhio.

Oh well. Race happens.

Glenn Beck appeals to whites with a fear that their race is losing control. Of course his followers wouldn't admit that. It's why they have such a strong hatred against immigrants. They hate how large the numbers are. They're not happy about global finance, the Fed. Reserve and the media being ran by well-connected Jews. They know the WASPs lost control in a matter of a couple generations. There's no longer any Protestants on the supreme court; but some of the Supreme Court Justices are Jewish. Now we have Barack Obama as president. Personally I think he's one of the whitest presidents we've had but for some reason a lot of conservatives seem to be really threatened by him. Beck's statement :

“This president has exposed himself, I think, as a guy, over and over and over again, who has a deep-seated hatred for white people, or white culture.“

is a clear indication of psychological projection, imo.

I don't know where else to put this and this seems like a general race thread so I guess I'll put it here.

Is it just me or are black women waaay more flirty than white women? I've been hit on by black women 3x just in the past week alone. It Schiller Park, at Kroger. White women seldom make the first move. When I flirt with white women they often just ignore it or say something like "I don't think my husband would appreciate that" or "I'm probably old enough to be your mother". I never said I wanted to marry you!  I'm just letting you know I like what I see. A lot of them seem to have a hard time taking a compliment for what it is. Maybe it's just my personal experience.

Black? White? Asian? More Young Americans Choose All of the Above

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — In another time or place, the game of “What Are You?” that was played one night last fall at the University of Maryland might have been mean, or menacing: Laura Wood’s peers were picking apart her every feature in an effort to guess her race.

“How many mixtures do you have?” one young man asked above the chatter of about 50 students. With her tan skin and curly brown hair, Ms. Wood’s ancestry could have spanned the globe. “I’m mixed with two things,” she said politely. “Are you mulatto?” asked Paul Skym, another student, using a word once tinged with shame that is enjoying a comeback in some young circles. When Ms. Wood confirmed that she is indeed black and white, Mr. Skym, who is Asian and white, boasted, “Now that’s what I’m talking about!” in affirmation of their mutual mixed lineage.

I'm a little disappointed that my alma mater has become so politically correct, but then again there aren't many blacks in Lake County except for Painesville (damn white people from Kirtland! lol)

“You Mad Bro?” Sign at High School Football Game Deemed Racial Intimidation

Really America…really?  Has it come to this, that the word “bro” is considered to be racist, even when it’s used as part of an Internet meme that’s been around for years?

Apparently it has, at least in parts of Ohio.  Near the end of a high school football game between Kirtland and Painesville Harvey, a group of Kirtland students and parents raised a sign that read “You Mad Bro?” which, for the uninformed, is a popular meme designed “to make a raging person rage even more by asking the most ironic question”, as per the Urban Dictionary.

Some people took offense to the sign, not because it was a show of poor sportsmanship, but because of it’s racial undertones.

Meh. Stupid sign, stupid reaction. In my own very humble opinion, the good people of Lake County take their HS football entirely too seriously. At my former employer, my Monday morning sales meeting started with a recap of how Mentor, Lake Catholic and Kirtland did over the weekend. Did I mention that none of these people had actual children playing for any of the teams?

Sometimes I feel like a stranger in a foreign land.

Interesting story stemming from the raised terror alert of this past Sunday.  What I don't understand is why was this woman targeted.  Was it simply because she was in the same row as these other two gentlemen.  I really don't have that big of a problem with the two men being detained and questioned, as it is an unfortunate consequence of the post-9/11 world (although I highly doubt fighter jets and the FBI would be called in for a white guy with the bubble guts).  However, I don't gather how the suspicion surrounding the woman arose.... other than pure racial profiling.  To boot, she wasn't even the same race as the two men and didn't know them at all.  I can't accept the "better safe than sorry" meme.  Not in situations such as this.

Ohio woman says she was taken from plane, strip-searched because of her appearance

DETROIT (AP) -- An Ohio woman who was one of three people taken off an airplane at Detroit's airport and questioned on the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks says she was shocked when armed officers stopped at her row and ordered her off.

Shoshana Hebshi, 35, told The Associated Press in a telephone interview Tuesday that she believes she was targeted because of her Middle Eastern appearance. Hebshi, who describes herself as half-Arabic, half-Jewish with a dark complexion, said she endured nearly four hours in police custody that included being forced off an airplane in handcuffs, strip-searched and interrogated.

Authorities say fighter jets escorted the Denver-to-Detroit Frontier Airlines flight after its crew reported that two people were spending a long time in a bathroom -- the two men sitting next to Hebshi in the 12th row.

The FBI has said the three didn't know each other. One man felt ill and got up to use the restroom and another man in the same row also left his seat to go to the bathroom. The FBI said they never were inside together.

Remind me what decade we are living in again.  If you ask me, the punishment should be that she is banished to Kentucky.

Ruling over controversial pool sign stands

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A Cincinnati landlord who claimed a black girl's hair products clouded an apartment complex's swimming pool discriminated against the child by posting a poolside "White Only" sign, an Ohio civil rights panel said Thursday in upholding a previous finding.

The Ohio Civil Rights Commission voted 4-0 against reconsidering its finding from last fall. There was no discussion.

The group found on Sept. 29 that Jamie Hein, who is white, violated the Ohio Civil Rights Act by posting the sign at a pool at the duplex where the teenage girl was visiting her parents.

The parents filed a discrimination charge with the commission and moved out of the duplex in the racially diverse city to "avoid subjecting their family to further humiliating treatment," the commission said in a release announcing its finding.

An investigation revealed that Hein in May posted on the gated entrance to the pool an iron sign that stated "Public Swimming Pool, White Only," the commission statement said.

Several witnesses confirmed that the sign was posted, and the landlord indicated that she posted it because the girl used chemicals in her hair that would make the pool "cloudy," according to the commission.

no, she might be accepted there! Maybe she needs to be banished to Cleveland!

How many teenage kids visit "their" parents?

I'd be delighted to exploit that she advertised the pool as "public."  This sounds like something my stepfather's family would do.  They're fans of racist statuary and wouldn't be surprised if they have segregation memorabilia like that sign.

Maybe she recently saw "The Help" and thought it was acceptable!

WTF!  I hope they sue the breaks of that racist b----!

Why must the answer be to sue?  Accept the fact that the woman is stupid and move on.

So she learns a lesson.

I think the suit only comes in play if the child was physically stopped. Words are just words until someone acts on them. Its not against the law to be stupid.

We're going to have to disagree on this.  It was beyond offensive and the apartment owner and manager should be held accountable.

I don't believe racial intimidation is legal.

By the way, do you know how old the girl is?  Could she be on a break from college?

Feel free to hang the sign on your private pool and not a soul would be able to say anything to you.  But this woman chooses to be a landlord and makes the pool available to her tenants.  She opens herself up to application of Ohio law.  Just as she cannot hang a sign on her building that says "whites only", she can't hang that sign on the pool.  Now, if she wants to hang a sign that says "tenants only", she can go right ahead.

And it is enough that she was made to remove the sign.  There is nothing more to sue for.

A comical punishment would be for her to perform community service in OTR with that sign hanging from her neck

Why must the answer be to sue?  Accept the fact that the woman is stupid and move on.

Yes, let's never have anyone held accountable for their actions, just walk away and ignore it. That's how things change, of course.

i just think there are so many more things that could be done outside the legal system. Its not a matter of right vs wrong. I'd start inviting all of my kids friends to hang out there. Besides, the landlord rented to minorities, just had a problem with the pool. Maybe she should have bathing cap requirements!

As long as those requirements applied regardless of race, she was free to do so.

And it's not like this went to court.  It was handled through the Ohio Civil Rights Commission.

But if the pool issue was due to the greasy type of hair products that blacks typically use in their hair can you post "no xxxxx hair products allowed if using the pool"?

Sure.... so long as it is not simply a pre-text for racial discrimination.  You can do a lot of things short of hanging a "whites only" sign.

Child you need to become friends with some brown people.  ColDayMan doesn't wear Jheri Curl any more.  The things black people put on their scalp are far less toxic than the stuff that gringos use.

Take her at the words on sign she posted. She didn't want black kids in the pool. Her hemming and hawing about hair products is crap; she tried to weasel her way out when called on her socially unacceptable and illegal action. Why try to defend something so blatantly RACIST as this?

This is a must view, especially for people not of color.  Many of the things stated by the panel, I've thought on a daily basis.

"The Talk" - nonblack version

http://takimag.com/article/the_talk_nonblack_version_john_derbyshire/print#disqus_thread#ixzz1rT0dCsso

I guess this was originally published in The National Review & the author has subsequently been fired.

"There is much talk about “the talk.”

“Sean O’Reilly was 16 when his mother gave him the talk that most black parents give their teenage sons,” Denisa R. Superville of the Hackensack (NJ) Record tells us."

"There is a talk that nonblack Americans have with their kids, too. My own kids, now 19 and 16, have had it in bits and pieces as subtopics have arisen. If I were to assemble it into a single talk, it would look something like the following."

A silly, stupid article that does at least touch on one important point, and that is why does American society focus so much on perceived white racism (and homophobia) while virtually ignoring black. Now that's a topic people are too afraid to discuss,  or perhaps they don't know how,  and this article should have delved in that controversy instead.
