Posted March 22, 200718 yr Located South of downtown, the homes of Fountain and Limestone Streets are quite spectacular. Limestone is a major thoughfare for the city and has seen a number of demolitions as a result. While the area may seem depressed, there have been some great rehaps in recent years, and a few more seemed to be underway. One of the most spectacular structures in the city, Springfield South High School features a massive dome and overlooks downtown from its Limestone St. location. Unfortunately, the school district is abandoning the school when it merges Springfield North and South into a new building on the old North site, leaving the building's future in jeopardy. How fitting it would have been for the district and OSFC to renovate the structure, or at least the front, and restore it as the city's sole high school. It will be a sad day in Ohio if the school is lost. Springfield South

March 23, 200718 yr Some of those make me want to cry, but it's gratifying to see that some folks are beginning to recognize the value in the neighborhood. < commie-pinko-fag rant > The difference between the old and new school buildings is a metaphor for the shift in the philosophy behind education. The old building honors permanence and tradition and symbolizes keeping what is good about the past and learning from human experience through history. The new one looks like a factory designed to turn out willing worker-consumers who will follow orders, forget about the history and boldy forge ahead to repeat humanity's blunders. :whip: </ commie-pinko-fag rant. >
