I've proposed a central city (basically from Gordon Square to University Circle) web-based newspaper to folks like Zaremba and others who might be in a position to help finance it. They wanted to see a business plan, but I haven't had the time to set it to paper (or computer keyboard). I envisioned that the "newspaper" would have e-mail alerts to subscribers and a print edition in PDF that subscribers could print out and read on the bus or train to work, or maybe at work or home (for the urban sinners who drive to work solo!).

Covering what?

There is so much that the PD doesn't cover and which I can't cover due to other beats I'm responsible for that I couldn't even begin to list all of the missed information.

"sooo uhhh no one got pictures of these renderings?  no cell phone picture or anything...??  i drove by last saturday and they were definately not in the windows anymore..."

Sorry for waiting so long to post these, but I was able to swing by and snap a few pics on the cameraphone (SLR battery died just as I was taking the first pic) or the Ernest & Young building  :?.  Sorry the quality isn't that great, but some interesting renderings, imo.  The second photo shows three separate views of the building, and take a look at the massings (?) behind the E&Y building in the bottom-right panel.  Any speculation as to whether this is conceptual or perhaps some real plans for development?

YES!!!!

The massing is another one of the "big three" looking for space.  Hopefully have something to post on that sooner than later...

PWC?

They seemed to have followed suit of E&Y's new-building naming frenzy.

You think they would live the SOHIO Building?

these dirt cheap rates for a lot of these leases have to be expiring soon (back when they dropped it to what 10 sq.ft a few years back to fill up the building?)

Nope, they moved into new space in BP this year.  Plus, they're not big enough in Cleveland to demand enough space to warrant a new building.

thats why I asked that.  It seems the SOHIO building has quite a few consulting firms in it.

1. E&Y

2. Eaton?

3. Baker Hostetler?

usually when someone says "big 3", "big 4" or "big 5", they are referring to accounting / consulting companies, and depending on how you view the market or mergers, you hear different numbers.

if that is the case, then i believe the Deloitte is in BP and hias a sizable presence there.  McKinsey is also in BP (but isn't considered a "big 3").  I know that IBM services has a fair amount of people in the area as well.

you don't have to occupy 100% of building to get your name on the top. But point taken, I didn't know they moved this year.

brtshrcegr --  what a score, thx.

pope brookings would be ok as long as we were talking about the exact same square mileage of what is considered downtown in the various cities. otherwise its pointless.

but at the same time that makes about as much sense as saying downtown new york is only and exactly a one-square mile radius from the NYSE.

no, it only shows that's not the perfect solution either beacuse it will miss things....but....still standardizing is a better solution and your example is much less of a problem. it's much much more fair to establish a centerpoint and then standardize a radius or block around it in a city. one square mile? 10? 20? doesnt matter as long as its the same for everybody, then you can compare. better to draw a line in the concrete somewhere than it is for some indy for example to say, "ours is 100 sq mi."

whoa those look amazing!

wow, we are a sad lot... hopeful, but really just grasping at anything that could be the BIG NEWS!!!

We're not sad. We just get excited about our city. There's nothing wrong with that. Right? Right??

It's going to be a 30-story Halle's department store?

is it a week until they re-schedule the warehouse district festival? i went on sunday and nothing was happening because of the rain. i went hoping something big was planned... but hrmmm..

LOL .. you'd think we were little children waiting for Christmas. :)

ah man, i was hoping for a 30 story Needless Markup.  The higher the floor, the more over priced it is.

LOL.  As a Shopoholic even I wouldn't want to see a 30 story Needless Markup.

Welllll, as I was heading into work, we were stopped on St. Clair at West 3rd. I happened to glance over (and fortunately my camera powered up in time):

I photoshopped it a little bit to help delineate the massings (sorry about the parking meters, I was in a car about 20 feet away):

Uhmmm, Mayday

Could you describe what you saw :)

I can't really tell what is going on there.  The red buildings would be new and about a little shorter than thier neighbors??

Does this massing jive with the original phase 1?

THANKS!  (not trying to look a gift horse in the mouth)

What I saw was two easels with renderings - one of which I could see from the car (god I feel soooo paparazzi!)

Yes, the red buildings would be over by West 9th and St. Clair and seem to be more in line with typical Warehouse District heights.

The blue buildings are Phase 1; If by the original massing you mean:

StarkPhase1S.jpg

Then no, the rendering I saw today is showing substantially larger buildings for Phase 1 :-)

THANK YOU! and very cool

Is this a sort of build it and they will come?

If so, FOREST CITY ARE YOU LISTENING!!!

waiting for this is worse than chinese water torture but it looks yummy!

One of these would look good at the corner of W6th and St. Clair,

two old grey haired men?

Well at least they weren't designed by volpe

Volpe does design the equivalent of two gray haired men.

Read the story.

Let's be honest.  We were all hoping for a picture, w28th.  Reading can be construed as a form of work.

you can't read buildings!

whoa some of those look like they might be altering the skyline... awesome that the big stuff is going in first rather than last...

It will be interesting to see if Stark has anything solid to report. I would think if he did, he would be calling a news conference, like the one he was suppose to have in June.

I think he's sincere, but in today's market conditions, I wonder if a project of this type and magnitude is still possible.  He's going to have to put some serious money on the table to have the banks back this project.

Man, you folks are thirsty for info!! (OK, so am I...). But if you can cool your jets for a bit, a few things will literally become clearer. Nothing earth-shattering yet, though.

KJP, buddy, pal, best writer of all time, what are the chances of construction within the next 6 mos...good, bad, maybe.

you can't read buildings!

From the renderings I've seen, yes you can...

I didn't see an offer of cash in there.... Doesn't matter. I would tell you anyways. The chances of construction happening within the next 6 months is impossible. It would probably take that long just to get through the city approvals process once plans were submitted. And no plans have been submitted.

are you seriously this dense?

Gentlemen hold your horse,Remember Stark is right now located downtown and is preparing everything right outside his window. Perhaps he can push a building plan  or two in less than six months. Hell I bet his first building plan get through in less than 3 months. :shoot: :shoot: :shoot:

^^Dude, how about you settle down with that.

Edsiou...it is clear you have very little understanding of the planning process for a large constrution project and what it takes to mobilize (even a private project with less statutory constraits).

I wouldn't make that bet if I were you.

I just cant wait to read all about it in this weeks Sun Newspaper!!!

It's not as exciting as I thought it would be last week. But it's still a interesting (at least I think it is).
