Thought I would post a few random shots that really dont fit anywhere in a photo thread.  Sorted by city

SAGINAW, MI (Where I grew up)

Back of some old buildings.  My friends and I used to play basketball here, and now the hoop is gone  :-(

Vacant warehouse.  This building mystified me as a child.  I would pass it on a daily basis and always wondered why I could see through the building on the 5th, 6th, and 7th floors.  Finally a year ago I got in and found out why, because the floors are gone!

Zilwaukee Bridge. A 1.3 miles long, 125 foot high-level, concrete bridge that carries I-75 over the Saginaw river and some industrial areas.  It is the major connector of the Michigan Tri-Cites area.  The bridge had a long track record of structural problems beginning as early as its construction when a portion of the bridge collapsed in 1982.  The bridge was finished 5 years later, but has had periodic problems since.  It is set to close in 2011

Concourse.  This is a shocking image to compare to a video on youtube which showed the this exactly 20 years ago.  Floors were gleaming, architectural lighting everywhere, people walking around.  How far this building has fallen

Taken inside an abandoned warehouse.  The photo was taken years ago, but this guy still lives there

The illegal demolition of the Madison Lenox hotel.  It was a protected historical building, and still no one is sure who is exactly responsible for its demolition.  A parking lot exists on the site today.

The pie shaped Milner Hotel.  To left you can see the remaining portion of the Madison=Lenox during demo.

Interior of the Fine Arts building, one of the many vacant structures owned by the "Pizza Pizza Empire" Ilitch Holdings.  The structure is an 8 story wood framed building downtown.  The center part of the building is sinking into itself.  As a result, floors 1-4 have dropped out with the top upper floors at steep inclines.

Fisher 21 Plant.  Don't go here unless your goal is to get sick.  (PCB's) You think I would have learned.

A real shame we don't build gems like this anymore

Wonderful photos. Every time I see the Michigan Central Station in its present condition, I'm very sad. Even though it was visibly in decline when I boarded a train for Toledo there in the early eighties, it still had a lot of grandeur. Then, I would never have expected what has happened to it.

Wow.

Holy Crap!!!  Now that is depressing...I've gotta get to Detroit before these gems disappear for good.

Fuck.

You know I love abandonments.

I'm drooling.

rando,

MCS isn't going anywhere, it would cost more to take it apart piece by piece (explosive demo is impossible), than it would to entirely guy/rehab the building.

Yeah MCS will probably be around forever.  Renovations had actually started on it in the late 90's.  Shame it never followed through.  The interior does get cleaned up once and a while though for filming movies and stuff.  The Island, that Transformers Movie, and some basketball movie (Crossover?) were filmed in this building.

Thats good!  I will probably be heading up to Detroit after this spring quarter ends.  I'll have a little break after the quarter ends and the next co-op job begins.  So I think I am heading up to N. Michigan to enjoy some of the beautiful sand bottom lakes!  I'll have to give you guys a heads up when I'm coming.

I'm sure we could round up a posse for you.

Damn that was sweet.

I'd be willing to take you inside the station.  I'm sure you will like it, unlike one certain urbanohio administrator.........
