This I believe this was mentioned somewhere but now it is a reality. Welcome to the neighborhood!

MetroHealth is introducing the first clinic in the region devoted to serving the health needs of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community (regardless of their ability to pay).  The MetroHealth Pride Clinic opens on April 4th and is located in the Thomas F. McCafferty Health Center, 4242 Lorain Ave, Cleveland 44113.  Call  (216) 651-3499 for an appointment.

There is a reception celebrating the opening which will be held at Bounce Night Club  2814 Detroit Ave on Wednesday, March 28, 2007 6:00 – 9:00 PM. Appetizers will be served.

My understanding is that the clinic will be operating a half-day a week schedule at first.  The Clinic was organized by two openly gay doctors based on data collected on a needs survey  circulated at the Cleveland LGBT center.  The McCafferty site is a pilot for more sites to get Pride clinics later.

oh man... celebration for this at Bounce??  haha

What better place? it is a basic premise of public health- be visable where you can reach a large portion of the target population...transgender and gay folks may have unique or complicated health issues that may make it hard to seek conventional health care. Not just from a social standpoint (the judgers they encounter), but that they may have issues that most docs are not accostomed to encountering (esp some of the issues transgender folks may experience). Either way it is a safe, non judging place  to seek care from experts in their field.

It would be great if this Clinic could permanently set up shop in the old Painter's building on Detroit and help kick start A Place for Us.

wonderful news.  Thanks for posting Ms. Peabody.

I wrote an article about this for tomorrow's Sun News, and asked that it be published in the West Side Sun, Brooklyn Sun Journal and Lakewood Sun Post.

And the earlier factoid that this is the first LGBT clinic in the region understates things a bit. It's the first in OHIO and one of only 12 such designated clinics in the nation.

wow awesome KJP. thanks for helping spreading the word! The fact that our area has something so unique is really terrific. Sometimes I wake up and think I am not in Kansas anymore.
