So, have people had experience w/ DSL vs. Time Warner Cable for internet access? Anyone have an idea of which one is faster in Real World scenarios for a given amount of $?

Well after losing my cable Internet for three days during the Adelphia to TWC transition without any prior notice I am in the process of dumping cable and going Speakeasy DSL (sorry MTS -- TWC's TV offering is great though, especially the HD stuff).

Specifically I'm going with their business-class 6 mbps down / 768 kbps up OneLink ("naked DSL" -- it doesn't require you have a phone line) offering. It will be costing me about $130/mo but includes probably a lot more than what you need unless you're running a business out of your apartment (things like 8 static IP address, 99.9% guanranteed up-time, priority service, etc).

I've heard nothing but good things from Speakeasy, although they did just get purchase by Best Buy and lots of people are predicting they'll turn to the dark side of horrible customer service and shoddy business practices like everything else Best Buy touches. And to be honest I was pretty happy with Adelphia/TWC cable until the burp last weekend -- it was just too much for me to take. If you go with them you'll probably be happy.

Its OK.  You'll be back.

I don't live in Cleveland (Champaign, IL), but I just got AT&T DSL Pro for $24.99/mo and it hasn't seemed any bit slower than Road Runner was in Columbus (except upload speeds).

Well, for the second time in two weeks I've experienced a significant outage since the conversion to TWC RoadRunner.. I'm not sure I can tell you with such certainty anymore that you'd probably be happy with that service. What the hell is this? Sure glad I have that DSL line getting installed tomorrow.

hmm...thx...do yahoo and verizon provide dsl service? i've seen some $14.99/month offers...

my gf uses the AT&T Yahoo DSL service in Lakwood for $15/mo and has been pretty happy with it, although she hardly uses it. Next time I'm over there I can use a bandwidth check on it, I'm guessing it's going to be a little slow but personally a little slower is ok as long as it's stable. My TWC RoadRunner is still out -- 12 hours and counting.

I live over in Old Brooklyn...I have had adelphia/TW for about 2 years.  I didn't loose internet at all during the conversion...Pretty happy with TW so far.  Had a lot of bad experiences with them when I lived in Kent, but I think that is because they dealt with a lot of college students (including me)...I have the 24.99 package, works great and I didn't see much drop in speed from the 39.00 package.  Overall pretty happy so far...
