The weather has been on the chilly side (upper 40s, low 50s) - some of my favorite photo-taking weather because everything looks so crisp.

I absolutely love what Zaremba is doing with the Avenue District and wish them nothing but the best, but world class signage? Geez...

Hope you enjoyed!

Whoa....fabulous detail shots!!! The UCOC cornice is amazing.

Nice UO billboard as well. ;)

Thanks MayDay- know that your shots are greatly appreciated!

The "Meet Me Here" shot reminded me just how awsome the public art element of Gateway was.  Aside from the overbuilt parking, that complex is really top notch- urban design done right, IMHO.  And without resorting to faux historical design (yeah, I'm talking to you Camden Yards!).

Excellent shots Mayday, as always!

Crisp for sure, beautiful!

Loving the billboard ;).

What a great photo series.  Cleveland looks fantastic.  Especially like the bridge guardians and St Theodosius' domes.  Thanks for the tour.

Beautiful day, beautiful photos!

I love the detail shots....simply amazing!

i've been taking the bus downtown recently instead of the train for variety, and my route goes right past zaremba-ville. I giggle every time i see the signs.

Great shots. The bridge/Tremont/UO billboard view is superb!

Don't let JoeC's neglect of rail push you to "his" chosen mode!

Loved the pics! I can't wait till the weather warms up a little and I can get our with my camera.  Thanks!

Great photos MayDay.

Now that Marcel Breuer's tower has been resurrected and the 60s/70s thing has some good feel going on... how i wish that the Dollar Bank bldg (original name?) was still  around (between Marriott residence and pre-restored 668 Bldg).

It woulda been great. Especially if youre an aficionado of the good stuff like that

WOW.....The city has changed drastically since these photos were taken.

MayDay[/member] should do (hint...hint) a downtown retrospective.  He could tell a good story with just his photos.

^In all seriousness, the good people at Fonthill Media are way ahead of you - I'm under contract to author my second book and the subject is (you guessed it) "before and after" photos of downtown Cleveland. I'm trying to get it all put together by next summer so it prints in time for the 2015 holiday season. :-) I know they're hoping for a historic slant on the 'before' shots but maybe they'd be cool with a few current but still 'before' shots mixed in?

True story - at one point there was a proposal to convert that building into residential use and my partner was *this* close to buying one of the units. Ah well.

^Congrats! I'm a sucker for before/after photo books, so I look forward to your new project.

If I'm not mistaken, Dick Pace was behind that proposal to convert the old Dollar Bank building into condos.  I'm really bummed it never it happened.  Like Clueless, I really miss that building- was a great example of evolved post-war modernism, with a little grooviness.

Given how downtown residential has taken off, I wonder if K&D now regrets demo-ing that thing.  Doesn't seem so implausible that they could have busted a driveway through the ground floor to access the parking garage without demoing the whole thing.  The empty space there and the blank wall of the 668 Euclid read like a big scar from the street.

MayDay[/member]  You know I've said this before, but you should explore being a photo journalist.  You have a the skills.

Glad to hear it. I was under contract with Gray & Co. in 2000 to do a before-and-after of Cleveland with my historical narratives but my photo skills were lacking so they asked me to sub-contract with a professional photographer -- out of my own money. That was the end of that project!

I smell a collaboration.  I'll only take 8% to make it happen!

Congratulations MayDay on the book deal!

I think i wouldve tried to get in the Dollar Bank Bldg too

It looks almost turn-key for a rooftop bar, infrastructure already there.

It added to the time-travel of architecture one can see when walking up and down Euclid Ave. A structural loss for sure

The space left is not all that big - somewhat narrow- so, fortunately, its not a huge open space. Plus the varying backs and sides of the buildings around the space are kinda interesting and do a good job at creating a texture, SAVE FOR ONE.

Im totally in agreement that the mammoth brick wall on the west side of 668 Bldg needs sth on it (painted wall signage, mural, living wall...etc)
