WLWT just reported that Guitar Center is closing, leaving that entire wing of the mall empty.  No article on their website at this time.

^Well, Guitar Center started running ads for the grand opening of a new store in Springdale, about three weeks ago.  I was almost certain that they would be closing the Cincinnati Mills location.

That mall renovation was a gargantuan failure.

you are correct sir!

Another store is pulling out of the Cincinnati Mills mall.

The Guitar Center is closing its location at the mall and re-opening later this week at the Kemper Crossing shopping center in the Tri-County area.

Earlier this year, the mall lost one of its biggest tenants when the bigg's grocery store there closed.

Mall management was not immediately avaiable for comment but, earlier this year, claimed many stores there were reporting strong sales.

How bout City Link? ...............

Tear it down and return the area to nature...absolutely no need for this massive retailing structure.

Oh, if only land was allowed to return to nature in some areas, especially along highways.

Maybe the Bengals could get their indoor practice facility they've been bitchin' about and they would have to do much beside throwing down some astroturf in the bigg's.

what about the world's largest marble collection, all under one roof

you are correct sir!

I think Gutter Center's sales were doing fine there. They probably wanted a larger store and to get off the sinking ship. Note also that they will be very close to Sam Ash; those big music stores tend to cluster like car dealerships.

Which one of those shopping centers is Kemper Crossing?

EMPTY!

Steve & Barry's expected to close

Steve & Barry’s, which operates four stores in Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky, is going out of business, according to a report Tuesday by the Wall Street Journal, citing unnamed sources.

The Port Washington-based retailer, known for its bargain-priced, celebrity endorsed clothing lines, has laid off most of its corporate staff and is set to announce it will cease operations and seek bankruptcy protection, according to the report, which cited two people close to the situation.

Cincinnati Mills Mall sold to realty company, official says

By Michael D. Pitman, Staff Writer

Friday, January 02, 2009

Cincinnati Mills Mall has been sold, according to a city of Fairfield official.  Fairfield Economic Development Director Greg Kathman said officials with the Port of Greater Cincinnati Development Authority notified him on Wednesday, Dec. 31, a company called North Star Realty purchased the mall from Indianapolis-based Simon Property Group.

"When the deal when the Mills Corporation purchased (the mall), they were involved in some of the financing and bonds of it, they run the TIFs on the project," Kathman said. "As property owners, they were involved in the sale of the property."

The nicest looking abandoned mall in America.  There is no hope for it, tear it down and let Northgate & Tri-County get off life support.

I'd rather see  Tri-county die and  Cinci. Mills thrive since it makes sense for a renovated mall to last longer but I think both are #$%@ed.

Make it into some condo's or something. Just get rid of the mice problem..lol

Tri-county has been renovated recently---and the renovations did not help it.

Or build a office tower at one end that houses a major business and two hotels at other points and call it the Cincinnati Galleria! ;)

^I take it your referring to Cincinnati Financial. What a waste to have their HQ in no-mans land Fairfield. How many QCS II could they fill in DT Cincy, one and half, maybe

^ Of all the firms that relocate to the suburbs, I really hate it when financial firms do it. Granted, Cincinnati Financial is more of an insurance company, but why wouldn't companies want to be closer to say, the Federal Reserve and the Cincinnati Stock Exchange?

UO hypo: you are given the title to Cincinnati Mills and have X number of months of capital reserves and Y amount of investment capital.  How can you make the mall profitable in Z months?

1. What is X?

2. What is Y?

3. What is Z?

4. How do you make it happen?

or

5. Impossible.

In theory that makes the most sense but it won't happen since it is located in Fairfield and everyone in the Cincinnati metro avoids Fairfield except Forest Park residents.  Hell even Fairfield residents seem to go to Bridgewater Falls for their shopping.

^ ahahaha, that's one of the first things people told me when I moved to Cincinnati -- "People in Cincinnati hate Fairfield."

A new branch campus for UC.  Maintain the Kohl's and Bass Pro for the time being.  Start the campus in Bigg's.  Allow campus to grow as needed.  Kohl's and Bass Pro rent could provide a funding source to build out the "new campus".

Just throwing out ideas.  As I see it, any idea should be worth considering.

I have often thought that abandoned malls would make great college locations.  The very nature of the retail space makes it very configurable for different classroom needs.  There is ample parking, and the food court is already in place!  Cincy Mills in particular would be a very nice place for a school.

Univ. of Toledo slowly transformed an old grocery store and mass merchandiser into a classroom and later admin. building.

I had some classes at the Value City campus/Southwest Academic Center (SWAC)/Rocket Hall back when it first opened - the strip center had UT classrooms, a wig store, a food stamp office, and a crappy grocery store called Kash-n-Karry.  Needless to say it was an interesting mix of people.

Exactly.

Tri-County is a ghetto s*ithole, although the Penny's re-do does help. Now if they could just bulldoze Macy's and Sears and open up the area where that huge, unused parking garage is to some fresh development, then I might be a little happier with the mall. I am less familar with Northgate, but I know that it is further away, so maybe Cincy Mills would have sucked most of its business away from Tri-County if it would have survived.

It will be a shame to waste Cincy Mills since it is such a nice, well-built, quality mall that would have had a lot of future if it was located a little more mainstream. I hope that the community college or vocational school students that will someday use it really appreciate it.

When Society and Order breaks down, we shall meet at the Cinci Mills Mall.

This took some planning and ALOT of free time!

"When Society and Order breaks down, we shall meet at the Cinci Mills Mall."

I just checked it out. It's pretty darned funny! It has a post-apocalyptic feel to it.

Meanwhile, Cincinnati Mills was recently sold for the third time in six years.

A mall representative told News 5 the new owner hasn't decided what to do with the mall, which has long struggled to attract shoppers.

Will Cincinnati Mills just shut down already?

Anyone hear the rumor about Outdoor World looking at doing a relo to West Chester?

I've heard that, I don't know where it came from though. I've never heard it traced back to anyone credible, just rumors as far as I can tell.

Cincinnati Mills gets new name

The new owners of Cincinnati Mills have changed its name to Cincinnati Mall, effective immediately.  Atlanta-based North Star Realty Group notified tenants at the mall today, according to a news release it issued this afternoon.

North Star said in the release that rights to the "Mills" name had not transferred with the purchase.  The firm purchased Cincinnati Mills LLC in December 2008 from Indianapolis mall owner Simon Property Group, which acquired the mall through its purchase of Mills Corp. last summer. Earlier this year, North Star principals said plans for the mall, largely vacant, would soon be released.

They should have called it Parkside or the Park District

THE Cincinnati Mall

I noticed a week or two ago that some of the signage was gone and figured the name change was coming. I'm interested to hear about this new "nontraditional" plan. Maybe it can become mixed use but that is probably wayyyyyy too generou of me to think

Look for an article in April's issue of International Council of Shopping Centers. They are doing a piece on the failing Cincinnati Mills property (with a photo from my article to credit!).

Do they recommend a fix?
