It's about the size of the Warehouse District it's a "District" not a neighborhood.  It located in/or near the uptown area.

^According to you, Oakwood (and every other pocket of Cleveland) is a "gayborhood".

(Boston, Massachusetts) A 1913 law used to bar same-sex couples from states which would not recognize their marriages from marrying in Massachusetts could soon be history.

I guess it's because it's so black and white to me: gay marriage = interracial marriage = forbidding spousal rape = voting rights = forbidding slavery. These are the kind of black and white issues that nutjob conservatives have ALWAYS opposed,

If you remember the abolishionist were the conservative religous folk from the north. However when you want to change society and the status quoa you're always going to have a fight. But isnt a slow gradual change better then a radical over night change?

Calif. Episcopal bishops oppose gay marriage ban

By 365gay Newscenter Staff

(San Francisco, Calif.) California’s six Episcopal bishops issued a statement Wednesday opposing Proposition 8, a proposed amendment to the state constitution which would ban same-sex marriage.

I guess it's because it's so black and white to me: gay marriage = interracial marriage = forbidding spousal rape = voting rights = forbidding slavery.  These are the kind of black and white issues that nutjob conservatives have ALWAYS opposed,

Abolitionists were not conservative.  Just because they were not members of the democratic party, does not mean they were conservative.  The make-up of the parties was much different back then.  Simply because abolitionists were religious does not mean they were not liberal.

Abolishing slavery was a very liberal thought because it changed the status quo for the sake of individual rights and to the detriment of economic strength and stability.... Now which party do you think would be advocating such a ridiculous notion these days. ;)

As far as the slow vs. radical changes - I would have to take that on a case by case basis.  Some changes should have been made yesterday IMHO regardless of how radical they are (Gay Rights for one).  You don't deny constitutional rights, or delay their implementation, simply because it might shock the conscience of conservatives (those wanting to maintain the status quo) who oppose it.

Other changes may not be as exigent and would be better implemented over time.

Religious leaders call for fast in support of gay marriage ban

By The Associated Press

09.25.2008 9:40am EDT

(San Francisco, California) Hundreds of pastors have called on their congregations to fast and pray for passage of a ballot measure in November that would put an end to gay marriage in California.

What in gay hell?! :wtf:

I think all religious organizations should be banned from voting on legislation.

What in gay hell?! :wtf:

I know, let's hope that their efforts are as effective as praying the gay out.  :-D

They can't get rid of us gays.  If they did, the world would be a bland, vanilla, colorless and tacky place.

don't people ever learn? they already tried to get rid of the gays and look what happened....gay as hell nazi germany. otoh....sharpest, tidiest uniforms of world war two!

While watching this video, I was thinking that the midwest is a pretty powerful region; Detroit, Chicago, STL, Milwaukee, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Columbus, Indy, KC, etc., etc. all which make up the majority of the region in population, but imo are pretty tolerant to the gay/les community?

To someone that is gay, wouldn't you agree?

I will adress this later - I need to make a call first and be a total bitch!!!!  :whip: :whip:

Mormon congregations in California are taking marching orders straight from Salt Lake City. A June 29 letter in which the Mormon president asked members to lend support to the proposed amendment has been read repeatedly at church services, along with a 1995 church proclamation that warns: The disintegration of the family will bring the calamities foretold by ancient and modern prophets.

Ah, I see...

Newsom Appears In Anti-Gay Ads

By 365gay Newscenter Staff

09.30.2008 12:11pm EDT

(San Francisco, California) Supporters of a proposed constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage in California are using San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom in a new ad campaign.

"Jim Garlow, the pastor of the evangelical Skyline Church in San Diego County, said he expects up to 100 young adults to spend five-plus weeks on his campus, subsisting on soup, juice and the promise of societal salvation."

I'm sure the poor and hungry in Pastor Garlow's area would be thrilled to know that his efforts are going toward such a noble cause.

I honestly found the anchor's remarks to be a bit throw-backish and hanging on to this whole notion that outside of the coasts, the States are nothing but a bunch of cornfed, homophobic hicks. I'm sure it helps those who moved away from the area when things *were* less tolerant, but I know plenty of people in high-ranking positions who are completely open at their place of employment. Hell, every single one of my immediate co-workers (not all of them are someone you'd immediately peg as tolerant) came up to me and offered condolences when they'd heard my partner's mother passed away. Not "sorry about your loss" but "hey, got your email about your partner's mom - sorry to hear that, if you guys need anything...". I know it's anecdotal but apparently the anchor on CNN would be flabbergasted

A while back, someone relocated from Los Angeles (after having moved away from Cleveland after college) and started at my company. Word got around and they introduced themselves and said they weren't sure if my company was "okay" with things. After explaining that my company offers domestic partner benefits*, specifically lists sexual orientation in their anti-discrimination hiring clauses*, and the simple fact that I've had my partner's photo on my desk for the 3+ years we've been together, I finally said "what kind of backwater have you been lead to think this is?". And everything they said seemed like the kind of fodder that makes up Forbes lists - hearsay and horsesh!t.

*things offered by most companies in Cleveland worth mentioning.

Well I personally took care of part of that problem!  :whip:

Ooh, that anchor's kinda cute...and my gaydar jumped a bit with his last comment.

Secondly, what the hell?  It's clear that neither of them have spent any significant time in the Midwest.  Outside of Kansas City (and quite frankly it was the Kansas side) I have NEVER experience any serious discrimination as a homosexual.  Even the smaller cities I've been to...Peoria, Champaign-Urbana, Rochester, Des Moines, Sioux City, Springfield, IL...I've been completely out to people, and not once has there been an issue.

Lastly, why the heck am I staring at a John McCain ad at the bottom of this page?

There's a Nordstrom Rack ad now :-D

HAHA, too funny.

Nordstrom Rack.  That may be more offensive.  lol

Hey, I'm all for Nordstrom Rack, Filene's Basement, Sak's Off 5th, etc.  I just wish there was one for Bloomingdale's.  I would love me some cheap Hugo Boss.

My friends and I are gonna stop there on our way out to Tsunami night at Sushi Rock tomorrow....  Are we crazy???  On opening day?  "That's my dress, b!itch!"  "No, it's mine!!!!!"  Should be a good time.

Lawd!  You kids crack me up!

Fight the damn thing tooth-and-nail.

BTW, the URL doesn't work.

Its nice to know there are corporations who are going out of their way to do something right despite it working against their own economic interest. Craigslist prides itself on not being too corporate and trying to maximize profit. It would be great if they put up a few little ads in support of stuff like this, or at least put up an ad asking for donations to the cause.

Fierce fight over Arizona anti-gay amendment

By 365gay Newscenter Staff

10.01.2008 3:48pm EDT

(Tucson, Arizona) A proposed amendment to the Arizona state constitution to limit marriage to opposite-sex couples is facing a fierce battle and opponents of the measure say they are confident it will be defeated.

^ I find it humorous that churches across the US put so much emphasis on fighting issues like this when there are clearly other, more important ones to be looked at ... like divorce for instance.

I think divorce skyrocketed after waves of feminism. Equal rights, less dependency on men. On one hand you have kids suffering because their family fell apart but on the other hand, a lot of women don't have to put up with abuse.

^ It's a mixture of a lot of things ... lack of love or respect, affairs, money issues, jobs, etc...

Iowa Supreme Court to hear gay marriage arguments

By 365gay Newscenter Staff

(Des Moines, Iowa) The Iowa Supreme Court has announced it will hear arguments Dec. 9 in a case challenging the state’s ban on same-sex marriage.

Iowa...yet now Ohio.

I was snooping around on foxnews.com (I like to see the funny things that the right-wing commenters say for a good laugh sometimes) and found this:

Connecticut High Court Permits Gay Marriage

Friday, October 10, 2008

HARTFORD, Conn. —  Connecticut's Supreme Court has ruled that same-sex couples have the right to marry, making that state the third behind Massachusetts and California to legalize such unions.

The court agreed with the plaintiffs, who said the state's marriage law discriminates against them because it applies only to heterosexual couples, therefore denying gay couples the financial, social and emotional benefits of marriage.

Eight same-sex couples sued in 2004, saying their constitutional rights to equal protection and due process were violated when they were denied marriage licenses.

Haven't seen it on CNN.com yet.

How exciting! More on the ruling...

This is not about Ohio gay marriage but I thought many of you would appreciate this message from San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom about California proposition 8 banning gay marriage.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wW2BGqnEXag

^That guy is fake. He's always seen marrying gay teachers in front of school children or walking down SF's "worst streets" giving homeless people advice on where the nearest social service is. He's just trying to get attention because he wants to be governer of Cali in 2010. This guy cheated with his campaign manager's drug addict wife while he himself had a major alcohol problem. It'll probably be between him and Meg Whitman (Ceo of e-bay/the woman McCain allllmost picked) in 2010 for governer of CA.

Check out this Republican Senator in Oregon.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wHK2VAOE8hU

He aired this ad in Portland recently, to get social liberal support. Basically he's telling us Americans what we already came to the conclusion of 10 years ago - that murdering based on orientation/race/religion, etc is bad. What he doesn't mention in the ad is that he supports a federal amendment to the U.S. constitution that bans gay marriage hehe.

Still a good thing that Newsom is putting himself out there though. That whole thing in Cali started because their marriage statutes used gender-neutral language. I wonder if that was intentional at the time.

It's hard to believe it's 2008 and gay marriage is still banned in most states.  In twenty years, we are all going to be slapping our foreheads in embarassment/shame.

Not hard to believe, the Supreme Court didn't make interracial marriage legal in all states until 1967 I believe.  Hence the story / history behind "Loving Day".

I'll probably die before I'm legally able to marry.  Not that I have any suitors, but thats another subject.  :|

It is interesting to note that the "parade of horribles" that the gov't argued would occur after the loving decision (beastiallity, incest, polygamy) are the same arguments people use against gay marriage

I've just never understood the anti gay marriage arguments.  My parents are far more liberal than I, yet even they are opposed to gay marriage.  When we discuss it, they offer absolutely no legitimate criticisms, only that that marriage should be between a man and woman.  That is their only argument and I find it impossible to convince them otherwise.

I guess that mentality - that marriage should neve be same sex - has been institutionalized in their minds.

I think it comes down to the fact that people do not fully differentiate civil marriage and religious marriage.
