I'd say it's worth the drive. Maybe you and several buddies can trade off shifts behind the wheel.

Sounds alot like the 2005 meet.

Can we just show up at 4:00 for the Old Town East exploration?

I wasn't present at that one; this is the most walkable bang for one's buck near as I can figure. Colday's gonna have to lead the OTE portion anyhow. And quite frankly I am probably the LEAST qualified one to be organizing this thing. All I've got going for me is these are my personal stomping grounds.

That said, sure: see you at 4.

betty's? I'm more of a surly girl kinda guy.

Betty's is closer to my house, and that's what it's all about.

well geez, why don't we just build a bar in your basement and have Ms. KOOW serve us drinks?

I'll get back to you on that. Okay I'm back: no.

Punt received.

tentative for me. Depends on a lot of variables right now (new lease or not new lease.....)

I have a weekend job; otherwise i'd be up there in a heart beat.

Likewise, I work all weekend.

I'm taking photos at a wedding in Lancaster that day but it's going to be over really early (6pm?) because these people are taking a plane down to Mexico at 6am the next day.  So I'm a no for the walking tour, a maybe for the bar.

^I heard wedding photographers can make several hundred grand a year! $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

No, there aren't very many people making that kind of money.  You'd have to pretty much only do rich people's weddings and rich people aren't getting married every weekend of the year.  In New York or in LA you could build up a business like that but not here.  I only assist at these things, around here you max out at about $300 assisting.  You just carry stuff around and get stuff out of the car and then take some photos at the reception.  Dry weddings are the worst, it's practically a funeral.

Damnit people, DATES.  GIVE US DATES!

You'd best stay in Cleveland.

can't a guy give columbus some loving?

can't a guy give columbus some loving?

Columbus decides the speed and pace of the relationship. That's how Columbus is. You knew that when you got involved with Columbus. Columbus is high-maintenance, but Columbus is worth it.

Seriously folks, here's a challenge to all you Columbusites and Columbus Curious out there: I'd like three (3) of you to step forward to sponsor pope's trip to the Columbus meet. All you need commit is your time and 1 beer apiece for pope.

I know you're out there. Now let's meet.

Sponsor #1 step forward...

***slowly backing up***

pope...is...standing...right...behind...you

doesn't the idea of "sponsor" require not giving me alcohol?

Honestly, it depends on real life, not booze.

Okay: I lied. The beers are for me.

Sponsor #1...

this calls for an old-school detroit style drink off!

We're gonna need a bigger sponsor.

and a lot of stroh's.

Take it to DetroitYes.

Important advisory for all planning to attend the Columbus Meet on November 3, 2007:

I am too thru! :-o :-o

Okay, now. SERIOUS announcement here...

This year's Columbus meet will feature a very special guest guide: Andy Henderson, author of "Forgotten Columbus," published by Arcadia Press back in 2002.* If it's in Columbus, and it ain't there anymore, Andy wrote the book on it.

Here's a tidbit from a recent e-mail exchange:

...I've got a million stories about places--for instance,

the Sells Brothers house, also known as the Sells

Circus House, which has that very distinct look at the

corner of Buttles and [Dennison].  There was a murder there,

an escaped convict from the Ohio Pen** who broke in and

killed a servant and assaulted the lady of the house before

running again.  He was eventually caught and executed,

but there are stories about the house now.

Just a block away from that is the apartment

where James Snook, the OSU professor, took his student

lover Theora Hix to have sex with her.  He later

killed her and was buried in a disguised grave in

Greenlawn Cemetery, which he haunts...

From the sound of it, our biggest challenge will be getting Andy to shut up. But seriously, Andy's participation, along with ColDayMan's bottomless repository of knowledge Columbus, will make for a DYNAMITE Columbus meet.

RSVP here, and see you there!

*More on the book from Andy's website: http://www.forgottenoh.com/Junk/cdispatch.html

**The meet will commence at the site of this breakout; North Bank Park sits where the former Ohio Pen used to be, and we'll basically be retracing the steps of the escapee. How cool is that?

i only come to make coldaymom's jokes in person, everything else is just icing.

^Oy.

Sounds good to me, KOOW.

so who all is probably maybe most definitely showing up?

Can I hear a Riverviewer?

And also, some poeple from Columbus? I've already pestered rider via PM. Who all here is Columbus anyway?

Downtown_CMH or CMH_Downtown or whatever he's called now; Summit Street; Clevelumbus; Columbus_girl; Mov2Ohio; atlas; some other forumers.  Blah blah blah.

^^Seems like we've lost some regular Cbus forumers. Either that or less is going on in Cbus (which I don't think is the case).

I never committed to attending, but it doesn't look like I'll be able to make it due to...well, college.

Yes, I think I'm going to make it.  And if any Cincinnati forumers are interested in hitching a free ride to Columbus for the trip, I'll have a few spots open in my car, just let me know...

Kingfish, you should work on David too - he was sorely tempted to go, just needed to work out something with work...

we could go firebomb his place of employment.

I like how you think.

Agh, it's Via Vite, the most wonderful new restaurant to open just about EVER in the HISTORY OF THE WORLD!!!

Just firebomb his house.  He'll have to get at least a weekend off for that...

You jus told the pope where to firebomb my place of employment!!!!!

Don't tell him where I live; I don't have renters insurance.

Sounds like someone needs to take out a hefty renters insurance policy quickly!

^Firebombing his place of employment would be counterintuitive to what we promote here at Urban Ohio, especially since he works near a very well known landmark of Cincinnati.  Maybe somebody rich could pay him to go for his lost wages?

I want to go myself, but I am in a bit of a bind.  About a month ago, I decided to take time off from school.  At the moment I am job hunting.  Hopefully I will have a job by the time the meet comes around, and then can go.  But I am not making any promises.

On that note, anyone know of any architectural firms in the Cincinnati area that are hiring?

Jeremy

thanks david, that was actually very very helpful!

Guys: the point is to get people to come TO Columbus, not run the other way.

I'm definitely in...I have dinner obligations that night, so I'll be leaving Columbus by probably 4ish, so again, any Cincinnatians who want to leave around 10ish, I'm guessing, and getting back around 6ish, mi auto es su auto...

You're leaving around 4? If you can give me a ride, I could get back in Cincinnati around 6, meaning I could probably work when I come back. I'd just be a few hours late. I work until 3am, they BETTER cut me some slack. It's my birthday, too, after all.
