Hey guys. A friend and I will be visiting Cincy one weekend next month. We will both be attending UC next year as undergrads.

What, in your opinion, are the essential places we should check out. Please keep in mind that I am looking more to see cool neighborhoods, shopping areas, etc around campus - places and things that will directly effect me as a student living in Cincinnati.

I believe we will be staying at a Hampton Inn either in Covington or in Blue Ash. We still have yet to make that decision.

Thanks!

I would definitely spend a bunch of time on the Ludlow Ave. business district, lots of great restaurants and shops.  While you are there, you might want to check out a movie at the Esquire.

The other main thoroughfare for students is on the other side of campus on McMillan and Calhoun streets.  Again, a ton of restaurants (check out Myra's on Calhoun), and a couple retail places including an Urban Outfitters.

I second the ludlow buisness district.

I'd also check out northside which is about five away from UC down ludlow ave.

UC's new rec center is excellent so check that out.

Stay in Covington, stay away from Blue Ash, there isn't anything out there.  Covington's mainstrasse is pretty cool.

Mt. Adams is popular with UC students but is about 7-10 minutes away from campus.

In Corryville you have short vine which is rough around the edges but has Bogarts (live music venue) and some cool bars, falafel shops, tatoo parlours, etc.  Highland's coffee shop at in corryville is also a cool place, especially if you want to chain smoke cigarettes and be angsty

Downtown Cincinnati has a few places to be seen in, too.  Are you looking for the gay or straight perspective?

On a side note...have you toured the university before?  If not I would be willing to give you a tour...I gave a tour to future DAAP students last weekend actually.  If you would like me to show you and/or your family around campus let me know and it can be arranged.

Oh, thats no fun.  if you want the true DAAP experience Rando should just give you some room numbers to find.  I am sure you would see most of the building just looking for them.  :-D

Yes I am a 3rd year Urban Planning student in DAAP, just give me a heads up and I'll be willing to show you around...even through the infamous DAAP bldg.

There's this amazing pizza joint near UC... starts with a P, I think...

Pomadorri's.  Its on McMillan, but I'm sure I butchered the spelling of the name...is that what you were thinking of??

yeah... that place is delish!

I love that place! They brag that they're Ohio's first wood oven-baked pizza joint.

Figlio's can also claim that title.

Whatever, bitch. If it's not in Cincinnati, then it wasn't Ohio's first.

How would you know?  You live in Kentucky.

For Sunday brunch, eat at Greenup Cafe in Covington.  It's located on the corner(ish) of Greenup Street and 3rd; a few blocks from where you're staying.  You should also have a drink or 6 up and down Mainstrasse Village, again Covington.  Here's their link http://www.nkyvillage.com/

great idea about the greenup cafe
