Bretton Woods, a new $9 million affordable senior-housing community for those ages 55 and older, is located at 2511 Bretton Woods Drive, near Minerva Park. The 3-story, 54,000-square-foot community features 62 one-bedroom apartments on more than 4 acres in a residential community between Cleveland Avenue and Westerville Road. “All 62 units were preleased before we opened our doors,” said Amy Rosenthal, vice president of housing development for National Church Residences. “I was there on Day One when the first residents moved in (Dec. 9).” Most recently, the company purchased the old Thompson’s Capri Lanes bowling alley, at 5860 Roche Drive, which is to be demolished to make way for more senior-housing opportunities.“ https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/local/communities/northland/2022/12/27/another-senior-housing-complex-opens-in-northland/69752217007/

July 12, 20231 yr The buildings are cool, I think, except for the prominent garage doors. After that the design is horrible. Alley accessed garages might increase the density on this site. That's a lot of roadway to construct for 24 units. What's with the giant right in/right out on Ferris? What speed are they expecting cars to enter and exit? If I'm driving home from Cleveland Ave, I'm making an illegal left turn into the development. Traffic engineers at the City are expecting drivers to drive around a super block via Innis Rd or Morse Rd to legally access the driveway. That's a farce. Drivers will just turn awkwardly into or out of that driveway. They do back onto the future Linden Green Line, which is cool. It's also in easy walking distance of Terita's Pizza, which is delicious!

February 16Feb 16 If Northland were its own incorporated city, it would be the seventh-largest city in Ohio Northland is a residential and commercial area in northeast Columbus. The area is served by the Northland Community Council, which oversees land east of Worthington, roughly north of Morse Road, south of I-270, and west of New Albany, including the neighborhood Forest Park and the independent village of Minerva Park. Northland began to develop in 1955 when developers began to build Forest Park. By the time it was done, Forest Park consisted of more than 2,900 private residential properties, apartments, condominiums and commercial properties. Today, the area has one of the largest populations of new American citizens in Columbus, including thousands of refugees from Nepal, Somalia, and Bhutan. As of 2021, the neighborhood had a population of 97,000. If it were an independent city, it would be the seventh-largest city in Ohio.

March 8Mar 8 Council to Vote on Zoning Changes for 161 Corridor City Council will vote next week on another round of zoning changes. The changes will apply to 165 parcels along the 161/East Dublin Granville Road corridor and will allow housing and mixed-use development in an area long zoned for commercial uses only. The parcels will mostly be transferred into the Community Activity Center district, which is one of the new zoning categories created when the City of Columbus passed a major zoning code update last summer. The district allows buildings up to five stories, with a two-story bonus for projects that include a certain number of affordable units. Like the other new zoning categories, multi-use buildings are allowed and there are no minimum parking requirements. Last year’s update, which rezoned around 12,300 parcels, established new zoning districts along many of the city’s high-traffic urban corridors and in several of its aging retail centers. Although some portions of the 161 corridor were included in that first phase of changes – like the area around the Continent development, which was rezoned as a Regional Activity Center – many of the parcels didn’t meet the requirements set out by the city for that phase. March 8Mar 8 Mixed-use zoning district proposed for Northland corridor A new proposal that will go before Columbus City Council would rezone 165 parcels into mixed-use districts. Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther introduced the resolution, which council will consider at its Monday meeting. If approved, the parcels will become part of the new mixed-use zoning districts established in 2024 as part of Columbus' Zone In initiative, a multi-phase, multi-year effort to modernize the city's 70-year-old zoning code. 10 hours ago10 hr The project that adds mini roundabouts on certain north/south approaches to Dublin Granville Rd continues to move along as work has moved east of Maple Canyon Avenue. The redesigned streets effectively eliminate left turns to and from the access road that runs along 161 from Sinclair/Huntley to Cleveland Ave. Improvements include adding pedestrian and bike facilities, new traffic signals, pavement widening and resurfacing, raised medians on the side streets and the installation of mini roundabouts on the side streets. The project currently is focused on the Parkville Street-Spring Run Drive areas just east of Maple Canyon Ave. Spring Run Drive, which is the northern approach at this intersection, along with a new roundabout at Fuji Dr, is complete and open. Work currently continues on the southern approach at this intersection, Parkville Street. I snatched a quick look at ongoing work on Parkville Street as crews build another mini roundabout in the distance:*I had a chance to see how the first few redesigned approaches are working and I must say they really make a difference- as all of the traffic blocking the intersection from the access roads is non-existent.
