I think automatically granting certain zoning relief where affordable units are provided is a good policy, but only allowing zoning relief for affordable housing is very dumb.

  • I don’t know why some people are acting like executive sessions are going to lead to Cincinnati City Council no longer having public meetings or doing all kinds of shady stuff.   Ohio state

Last month she was a host for a Cranley fundraiser

Landsman's blooper reel

Personally, I think this is really smart.

Repeats the message & humanizes him at the same time and it's FREE

and just like Cranley - what I won't do & nothing bout what I will do...

Is it just me, or does Amy Murray remind you of Tracy Flick in the movie "Election?"

Last time she was running for council, I heard a radio interview with Amy Murray where she said that downtown needed more free/cheap parking in order to lure people in. She obviously does not "get" urban issues at all.

At least she said "leasing" and not "selling."

Not surprising.  I'm more shocked that she allowed them to publicly endorse her

Apparently COAST or their sympathizers are taking down signs of Dem and progressive candidates. Just this morning, I've heard friends working with a couple candidates say that they have had signs stolen off supporters' properties. Some one from Landsman's team even said one of their large 4x8 signs was stolen off of private property on Kellogg.

It seems like COAST is reverting back to their childish ways and loser antics.

^Signs disappear every year. In the past it was often Leslie Ghiz signs because her name is so funny. Is there any evidence suggesting a specific perpetrator?

bored teenagers

City Council should pass an law that if the politicos don't collect all of the signs they stick in yards and elsewhere, within 1 week after the election,

the citizens get to flog them.

Ya-  Signs get stolen all the time.  I've heard from one particular campaign that they are upset their signs are disappearing.  It's annoying sure, but it happens to everyone, always. It's probably a mix of people opposed to you, and just kids being kids.

Taking a 4x8 sign though is a big deal, simply because of how much work it is.

the month preceding Halloween probably doesn't help

Got a flyer from Christopher Smitherman.

On the tiny flyer he somehow manages to cram in the streetcar, parking, and a detroit/stockton bankruptcy reference.

The Cincinnati Green Party is a complete mess. I think most people know to just ignore their endorsements. You would think they would get behind candidates who want to improve public transportation, encourage complete streets, and be more aggressive with environmental issues. How that does not equal a Quinlivan/Moroski/Seelbach/Simpson ticket is beyond me. And if they endorse in the mayoral race, you know they will choose Cranley even though he wants to shut down the OEQ

Interesting... it appears the questions you receive could be on any council candidate. Mine was on Chris Smitherman.

I got Sittenfeld

I got Smitherman and I thought the statement didn't really sound very Smitherman esque. After the survey it says the paragraph you read was not actually from the campaign but was made up by researchers. Very interesting.

^Dude you tainted the study!

It also said not to discuss that.

I got Smitherman, too.

I recently saw a "keep Thomas on council" sign and I was a little disturbed by it. How many people are going to be fooled into thinking it's the same Thomas was actually elected to council, not the one that was appointed a few months ago?

Apparently, Pam Thomas wasn't able to make it to a candidate's forum tonight and Cecil sat in for her. Unbelievable.

It's true. He said Pam was assisting some seniors in a high rise apartment who were without heat. She was trying to get the media involved.

last night I randomly came across public access television and Smitherman was on there bashing Qualls/City Council... is that a normal thing? I never turn that channel on.  Can you use a taxpayer funded channel to further your political agenda while actively on council?

He was giving a lecture on finances, and it was awful. He distorted much of what the truth is.

Media Bridges is closing down due to lack of funding. I always wondered if that clown, Smitherman, ever helped them out since he used the facilities so much.

He has said truly outrageous stuff on local access. He promoted the city using eminent domain to seize vacant properties and then sell them to "responsible" people for a buck. Unconstitutional & expensive as that would be, his singing the Mr Rogers theme as he walked from house to house was the best.

Still, he gets endorsed by the home builders & real estate organizations.

This is Cranley's base, ladies and gentlemen. And they're not just voices on Facebook. Kevin Osbourne used Jim "getto" Kiefer as a source, introduced as a Cranley supporter, in the article which John Curp and the Ohio Ethics Commission debunked. You know, the one Kevin went and did a talk radio tour about.

The situation gives the appearance of a conflict of interest, some Cranley supporters said.

Qualls should’ve sought an advisory opinion from the Ohio Ethics Commission about whether she should sell property along the streetcar route, they added.

“It’s a definite conflict,” said Jim Kiefer, a Cranley supporter. “She is chair of the budget and finance committee, and is privy to information about properties that other people may not be.

These are not just random people. They are semi-official spokespeople for Cranley's campaign (as confirmed by the mainstream local media). Does Cranley have anything to say about this?

After the WCPO article came out, Qualls dismissed the SM comments about Cranley while Cranley embraced the SM comments about Qualls.

That says something.

Meanwhile, many voters continue to pick a bizarre slate of council candidates. Just saw this tweet from someone who shall remain anonymous:

"One week! Ready to vote for @yvette4council @VotePG @ChrisSeelbach @LaureQuinlivan @Amy_Murray @greglandsman1 and OF COURSE @RoxanneQualls."

I wonder if this person realizes that Murry would probably cancel out Quinlivan's vote on nearly every issue.

Gotta keep that status quo going!

I think council elections are much more personal than state or federal elections. People vote based on personality, and that's not a bad lineup of personalities, except for PG-13.

Who did council candidates get money from?

Written by John Johnston

Candidates for Cincinnati City Council collectively have raised $2 million in pursuit of a job that pays about $60,000 a year.

That’s up from about $1.65 million raised at the same point in the 2011 campaign, when there were 22 candidates vying for nine seats, compared to this year’s 21.

Again this time around, donors have shelled out the most money to incumbents P.G. Sittenfeld, a first-term Democrat, and Charlie Winburn, council’s lone Republican.

Sittenfeld raised $328,000 and Winburn collected $318,000 as of Oct. 16, according to campaign finance reports filed Thursday, the last such reports before the election.

Also from the story: "Charter candidate Kevin Flynn’s fundraising total of $181,000 includes loans of $139,500 he made to his campaign." I've asked John Johnston via twitter what interest rate is Kevin Flynn is charging his campaign.

Westwood petition calls out ‘racially insensitive’ individuals

A petition called “MyWestwood” has been posted on Change.org, asking residents in this city neighborhood to commit to civility, tolerance and inclusion, in light of a series of Facebook comments made by a Westwood resident about black city councilwoman Yvette Simpson last week, perceived by some as inappropriate or racist.

The petition, created by “Residents Westwood” proclaims:

“For too long, the largest neighborhood in our great City has been publicly identified by the negative statements of a few disgruntled, racially insensitive, and regressive individuals. This stops today.”

The Enquirer keeps saying "perceived by some as racist," like there is subjectivity to it. Grow a spine!

At least they are covering the story. Even if it's just in the "blog" section.

Well I just commented on Cranley's FB "response" to the Yvette Simpson name calling. Cited the WCPO article where Kiefer is quoted and identified as a Cranley supporter.  Let's see if I get blocked and my comment deleted.

^Update: comment gone and I am blocked.

How is Seelbach doing in this race?
