I think automatically granting certain zoning relief where affordable units are provided is a good policy, but only allowing zoning relief for affordable housing is very dumb.

^Murray is far from extreme right. She gets along well with moderate Democrats. I agreed with her on the parking deal and disagree with her on the streetcar.

Every time the council voted on a resolution she had to spend an inordinate amount of time complaining about hat a waste of time it was.

Reminded me of the people going to the effort of chastising others on forums to RTFM or Google the question instead of just answering the dang question.

Data show Columbia Parkway accident rate below city average

This article from 2011 is in response to four former councilmembers seeking reelection holding a "press conference" on Columbia Parkway because it was too dangerous and wanted a study to analyze safety. Ghiz, Lippert, Murray, and Bortz all attended to demand better safety measures on the street.

She was a councilmember who pandered to get votes and never came up with worthwhile discussions. The funny thing is that all four of these candidates lost in the election. I hope it was partly because of this and other antics they had to raise attention.

^^Those resolutions ARE a waste of time, to be fair.

Used to get along with democrats.  She has moved farther and farther right.  Charter has become more and more irrelevant.  They are supporting all people who support the parking charter amendment.  constant charter amendments are what charter is supposed to be against.  Charter is now this wishy washy nothingness that should entirely be abandoned or needs to stop endorsing candidates and do something else like issues.

well, COAST is tickled pink about Murray's endorsement - that should say something

Amy Murray has been to numerous COAST fundraisers and events over last 3 years

Interesting tweet from Jane Prendergast:

@VotePG starting signature collection over after BOE questioned some dates on his petitions to get on the ballot.

"It's just fate, as usual, keeping its bargain and screwing us in the fine print..." - John Crichton

From a PG email blast today:

Yesterday, our campaign turned in to the Board of Elections (BoE) more than 1,000 signatures of City voters supporting placing my name on the November 5th ballot. We confirmed the validity of more than 700 signatures although only 500 are needed. On some of the signature petitions, an incorrect date had been written by the person circulating the petition. Then, the same person crossed out the first date and entered the appropriate date - as we were directed to do by a BoE employee. The process by which we collected the signatures - and the signatures themselves - are completely valid.

Now, because the dates were crossed out and corrected, the signatures are being called into question and could theoretically threaten to invalidate ALL of my petitions - and KEEP ME OFF THE BALLOT FOR RE-ELECTION. This is especially discouraging because my years on Council have been focused on earning the respect of Democrats, Republicans, and Independents: and indeed, the submitted signatures come from voters across the political spectrum.

The four board members of the BoE will make the final decision on the validity of my petitions and I hope and believe it is unlikely that they will invalidate my signatures. However, I am leaving nothing to chance and am determined to continue serving the citizens of our community.

I agree that she used to be pretty moderate.  Look at the fundraisers she's holding now:

Think long and hard about your choice for City Council

New 4-year terms raise election stakes at a key turning point for city

This fall’s Cincinnati City Council election is arguably twice as important as previous ones.

At least, voters will have to live with their choices twice as long, thanks to a 2012 charter amendment that extends council terms from two years to four.

“Certainly it changes the stakes,” said Alex Triantafilou, Hamilton County Republican Party chairman. “Whatever happens here we’re stuck with for four years.”

The nine council members will also take office at an important time for Cincinnati. Financial challenges continue to cast a shadow even as momentum builds for carrying the revitalization of Downtown and Over-the-Rhine into the other 50 city neighborhoods.

Friday, Mike Moroski/Chris Seelbach created a Survey Monkey poll asking Twitter followers who they were supporting for Cincinnati Council. Poll closed this morning and from Chris Seelbach: Results of our Council Poll. This was not a scientific poll. But hopefully will get more people talking about race:

well, that's not surprising. If Sam Malone did the same thing, he'd probably come out on top.

Agreed, it's a social media poll. Not sure Sam Malone is on Twitter.

Its a cool poll but doesn't really mean much.

I've said it before but Honestly I think the only two locks for City Council are Charlie Winburn and PG Sittenfeld.

It's going to be a dogfight

WLW will make sure that Smitherman is a lock as well. He'll do everything from read the traffic reports to call UC football games in the weeks leading up to the election.

Do Cincinnati voters listen to WLW?

Actually, I'd bet that Seelbach's poll is very close to how Ward's 6, 17, 11, 12. Still, that's not enough wards to win an election...

Do WLW's listeners visit Cincinnati?

It is a bit of a drive from Hillsboro.

Amazing:

There are some random pairings every once awhile. I've discovered they are most often when someone's political leanings take them to one candidate, but a personal relationship with a politically opposite candidate also garners their support.

There's a house in Hyde park littered with cranley Murray signs right next to a house littered with qualls signs

Vanessa White just came into my Starbucks. She drinks a Grande Extra Hot Hazelnut Macchiato and debated adding a shot to it. She also stared at the pasty case for about a minute before choosing a Lemon Loaf.  This is going to be a tough election.  #EnquirerTopStory

lemon loaf?

well, that clinches it for me...

I have a neighbor with Cranley and Moroski signs right next to each other. The Cranley sign has been there for months.

Montgomery Inn Boathouse hosted Moroski's Campaign Kickoff and there are still several of his signs near their entrance. Recently, several Cranley signs have be added. In 2009, they had Brad Wenstrup signs up and hosted his election night results party.

Keep in mind, nationally, Cranley is a Democrat. Some people are probably pro-Moroski not because he's pro-urbanism but because he took a firm stance for gay marriage. On this forum, we may see through a prism others wouldn't recognize.

Murray got a Charterite endorsement, for whatever that's worth. Must mean something to someone.

I wonder how many Cranley sighs you see in Butler and Warren Counties.

I just recently went through the list of candidates for November's election and this is what I have come up with:

Will Win in November: Yvette Simpson, Chris Seelbach, Wendell Young, Laure Quinlivan, PG Sittenfeld, Chris Smitherman, Charlie Windburn

Will Most Likely Win: Greg Landsman

Could Win: Mike Moroski, Michelle Dillingham, Shawn Butler, Amy Murray, David Mann, Pamula Thomas, Kevin Johnson

I believe all of the current councilmembers will win reelection with the exception of Pamula Thomas. I actually don't think she will win reelection, but it is certainly possible.

I strongly believe that Greg Landsman has his act together and will win the support of Democrats and his victory will be somewhat similar to PG's win in 2011 (not to say Landsman is a similar politician, just that he has a similar draw to people on the right, IMO).

After these picks I think it's a tossup between the other candidates mentioned.

Thoughts?

^I agree almost 100% with your assessment. However, I think the tossup spot will go to either Moroski, Murray, Thomas, or Mann. I just don't think the others have the right ratio of funds, shoe-leather and a message.

Edit: I also think you can't count out Kevin Flynn. He has come close 2 elections in a row, and the 3rd time has historically been the charm for several other candidates.

I recently saw a "keep Thomas on council" sign and I was a little disturbed by it. How many people are going to be fooled into thinking it's the same Thomas was actually elected to council, not the one that was appointed a few months ago?

That's the key to her possible election. David Mann signs say "Return". All incumbants except Thomas say "Reelect".

Greg Landsman is the first council candidate to release a TV ad.

um... wow. Really? That's his angle?

What does everyone think of that Landsman ad?  Not in fine details. But overall

It reminds me of PG's ad about kids in the sandbox last election, but a little less negative.

Maybe it's damage control for Urban Strike, the SNES/Genesis game from the mid-90s where the bad guy, "Malone" hatches a plot to blow up the World Trade center with a laser in 2001. Story starts at 1:00:

I might have told this story before, but I was in the middle of playing this game when Winburn and Malone showed up to my apartment building while people were tailgating for a UC game in 2007.

FOP endorsements:

Sittenfeld

Smitherman

Thomas

Winburn

Flynn

Johnson

Malone

Mann

Murray

Interesting to see Kevin Johnson on there. Got to respect his campaign. Not a lot of flash, but he is out there connecting with voters.

Apparently one of the questions the FOP asked was "Who do you support for mayor?"

Looks like all those candidates they picked support Cranley(not sure about Johnson)

Do we know they asked everyone that? Perhaps they only asked Moroski in order to get more of a read on a newcomer. Also, I would bet PG, Thomas, and perhaps a couple others gave  non-answers if they were asked.

Thomas was listed as a host for a Cranley fundraiser and PG probably gave a non answer but they know who he supports.

Also, did they endorse any streetcar supporters?

Not to be negative towards Kevin Johnson, who I think has run a very decent independent campaign, but this reminds me of the FLP endorsements and 2011 where they endorsed Jason Riveiro as sort of the surprise longshot candidate. Of course, Jason finished 15th or something and it is very likely Kevin will end up in the 13 to 15 range as well.
