It's been a while since any updates were done on this project. I didn't even think about checking out the progress on the back though.

It's certainly coming along.

Cameron Mitchell’s catering arm to manage new museum restaurant Lino

The next addition at the Columbus Museum of Art is a feast for the stomach, not the eyes.

The museum has tapped Cameron Mitchell Premier Events not just as its exclusive caterer but also to manage the museum's new restaurant set to open this fall.

JPMorgan Chase gives Columbus Museum of Art $1 million toward expansion

By Nancy Gilson, The Columbus Dispatch

Thursday, February 5, 2015 - 12:47 AM

The renovation and expansion of the Columbus Museum of Art received a $1 million boost yesterday — a donation from JPMorgan Chase & Co.  The gift honors the memory of John G. McCoy, the late patriarch of Bank One Corp., whose family has supported the museum for decades.

JPMorgan Chase is also donating to the museum a work from its corporate art collection.  The sculpture — John T. Ward Transporting Fugitives in Columbus, Ohio to Freedom, 1800s — is a showcase piece by Columbus artist Aminah Robinson.

( . . . )

The museum, at 480 E. Broad St., is undergoing a $38 million renovation and expansion that will add 50,000 square feet to the venue — the final phase of a three-phase project.  The new wing is scheduled to open in October.

The $1 million contribution is intended to help the museum reach its overall fundraising goal of $93 million.  Counting the Chase gift, $86.2 million has been raised.

I like that copper cladding.

More about the copper cladding from http://www.columbusmuseum.org/september-construction-update/

"The Zahner pre-patinated “Star Blue” copper is being deployed on the upper gallery using a proprietary system designed by Keith Panel Systems, Vancouver, BC (keithpanel.com).  The reveal system is arranged in a pattern scripted by the architect.  Certain panels are perforated and screen a discreet light source that changes the character of the building in the evening."

View of the copper panels being installed (Sept. 2014):

So there is a construction cam for the museum. It looks like it actually died about a month ago, but it is still worth posting because if you press the play button near the top it brings up a cool time-lapse video of the construction.

I really like the color of the addition.

Columbus Museum of Art Announces Opening Date for New Wing

(Columbus, OH) – The Columbus Museum of Art today announced the public opening of its new 50,000 square foot wing will be Sunday, October 25 at 10:00 am.  The event will mark the completion of the third and final phase of the Museum’s Art Matters campaign.

The $37.6 million project encompasses major renovations to the Ross Wing and lobby area the Museum added in 1974 and the construction of a new wing.  These changes will result in a unique meeting and special event complex, as well as new Gallery spaces to showcase the Museum’s permanent collection and expanded space for high-profile traveling exhibitions.

^ Thanks for that find.  I used to subscribe to the daily email for that site.  Lost track of it when I switched internet providers a few years ago.  Think I'll subscribe to it again.

ArchDaily does a wonderful job documenting architectural projects.  And they really did an excellent job showing off the CMA expansion (with a big assist from local photographer Brad Feinknopf).  The new CMA officially opens up in less than a month, so there's bound to be lots more about it.  But for a purely architectural tour of the new work, casey's ArchDaily link is the best!

The addition turned out looking pretty sharp; I look forward to checking out the interior.

We all thought that the art museum construction was finished after the new addition opened last year.  But as you can see from the above photo, there's still more work going on.  Here's what the Dispatch reported in http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/local/2016/09/19/cosi-art-museum-conservatory-divvy-5-2-million-for-improvements.html:

"The art museum, 480 E. Broad Street, will use $1.6 million to redo the front steps, add lighting and improve the grounds along Broad Street.  Museum officials call the Broad Street side of the museum the “historical entrance” and said it has been in need of updates for several years.

Construction crews have begun work on the museum along Broad Street and have put up fences near the sidewalk. “Crews will be working through early 2017, and what they are doing is really renovating the front of the museum,” said Melissa Ferguson, spokeswoman for the museum. “We want to modernize and provide safe access to the museum.”

The work on Broad Street is coupled with the nearly $40 million the museum has spent in the past several years expanding and renovating its campus."
