Posted May 12, 200718 yr Although there was a small turnout of UrbanOhioans for the Riversweep event, there was a lot of cleaning accomplished - kudos to X, peabody99, and markymark48 who did a great job. I also have to tip my hat to the kids from Brecksville/Broadview Heights High, and the Laurel School - these kids were hard-core and fearless, lifting tires by the dozens. We meet with Abe, coordinator for the Ohio City cleanup: Oh yeah, we were meeting at the West Side Market: The wooded hillside along Columbus Road: My first garbage bag filled up quickly - I found (among other things) a lampshade, a pair of track pants, slippers, and I learned that Cleveland's homeless population favors Cobra: This was/is someone's house: But don't feel too bad - they have an awesome view of the downtown skyline: Down toward the Columbus Road bridge: My favorite townhomes, the Irishtown Bend townhomes: X doing a great job! St. Mary's Challenger - built in 1906, and 551 feet long http://www.boatnerd.com/pictures/fleet/stmaryschallenger.htm Literacy, anyone? The West Side Market tower, Hooples, and the Columbus Road bridge: You see these tires? Those kids dragged them up out of a ten-foot ditch - hardcore, I tell ya! Now this is part of the Scranton Road peninsula - owned by Forest City Enterprises: Would it kill them to at least put up a fence on that side of the road so the Riversweep efforts can be spent elsewhere? Looks like the Challenger is going to have some company: The American Courage - 636 feet long (almost as long as 200 Public Square is tall) http://www.boatnerd.com/pictures/fleet/amcourage.htm And that's all folks! clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
May 12, 200718 yr Thanks for thinking of this. it was a good time even though I could only stay for 1.5 hours. We got a great t shirt to boot. I could not believe all those freakin tires-huge ones too
May 12, 200718 yr Thanks for putting up the pics. Despite the hard work, it was really a good time. We got to explore some parts of Cleveland that we wouldn't have normally. We even got down to the river in a place it is normally inaccessible (legally). Thanks to all who came.
May 13, 200718 yr nice work. too bad it was cleaning up after the long negligent ratners. boy, if there was ever a textbook case for eminent domain....
May 13, 200718 yr I used to do this type of stuff as a career path. Every year sometime during the summer during the event called coastweeks we would have an informal competiton with cleveland to come up with the most odd object found along the coastline. Every year cleveland seemed to outdo us, but one year we found a large section of a boat and we figured for the first time we had them beat.... But they ended up finding a body... It never ceased to amaze me what junk people littered everywhere, name it basically, I have found it. From cleaning up shorelines for 5 years I amassed 15 pounds of beach glass.
May 13, 200718 yr That should be the new UrbanOhio logo. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
May 14, 200718 yr Kudos to those that strive to make their community a better place. Does FC own this view? Are you kidding me, prime land for condos, pre-sign me up for one.
