Who will think of the children?! And the lights?!

But you know, walking distance the other direction is a conglomerate of suburban strip malls with thousand of STRANGERS

Call me weird, but I'd be ok with it. I'd go there for quick stuff over Hamilton Road if I lived that way.

Calling a gas station roof a "circus tent" is a new one.  Almost like, well, this famous gas station chain in southern Indiana:

Well, Sheetz…

Gahanna and New Albany residents square off against proposed Sheetz near roundabout

“[R]esidents of Gahanna and New Albany were the latest to fire back against plans for the latest Sheetz at the southwest corner Morse and Johnstown roads, during a March 8 planning commission meeting, citing public safety, aesthetics, traffic issues and a litany of small details.

The 6,131-square-foot store would be on 4.2 acres owned by The New Albany Company. It would have 43 parking spaces, 16 fueling stations and 74 trees and shrubs surrounding it, according to planners.

It would walking distance to a Goddard School, The Barn At Rocky Fork restaurant and High Bank Distillery Gahanna, all desired amenities. Residents, however, say the Sheetz project simply doesn't fit here.

I say go for it. There needs to be a little more at that corner. That article also needs a "be" in between "It would" and "walking distance".

Also, would High Bank Distillery patrons be the kind of strangers they would want near the children's school?

Crescent at Central Park receives blessing from Gahanna

“Crescent at Central Park, a mixed-use development with nearly 300 housing units, has been given the green light by Gahanna City Council.

On Nov. 21, City Council approved the development on more than 41 acres located to the southeast of and adjacent to the Interstate 270 and Hamilton Road interchange.

The revised agreement calls for 296 units of housing, compared to 240 in the original agreement, 10% of which is guaranteed to be at 80% of the area median income, and an additional 10% is guaranteed to be at 100% of the area median income.

With changes in marketplace-construction costs, the city is to contribute up to $4.4 million in future tax-increment financing contributions that are to be generated from the project that is to be earmarked for infrastructure needs on the site.“

“A Houston-based company is looking to expand its Gahanna operation with a new warehouse building and associated improvements.

Rosen USA, which develops, produces and operates inspection devices for pipelines and other systems in the oil and gas industry, wants to build a 45,500-square-foot tool warehouse just south of its primary structure at 1195 Technology Dr. in Gahanna. The warehouse would be used for Rosen's pipeline inspection tools, according to documents submitted to the city.

In addition to the new warehouse, Rosen is planning approximately 75,000 square feet of hardscape improvements on the 5.5-acre site. Those improvements include an expanded employee parking lot with 68 additional spaces, for a total of 108 spaces. A further expansion of the company's equipment storage yard also is included in the proposal, as is the removal of 2,800 square feet of pre-fabricated structures located in its current equipment yard.

Rosen is requesting approval of a final development plan, design review, conditional use and variance applications for the new warehouse and related improvements. Gahanna Planning Commission staff are recommending approval of all four applications as submitted. Those applications will officially be considered at a commission meeting Wednesday.”

Gahanna Planning Commission approves Stonehenge Company's $50 million apartment project

A Gahanna developer has landed key approvals for its $50 million apartment project on the city's northeast side.

The Gahanna Planning Commission this week approved a variance application, final development plan and design review for The Stonehenge Company's new multifamily development. The approvals will allow Stonehenge to move forward with Elliott Parc, a 251-unit apartment complex at 5503 Morse Road.

"From the standpoint of moving the project forward, that was the last piece," Stonehenge Vice President Adam Trautner said of the approvals. "The next phase will be to submit for our building permits, which we'll be doing in April, but we started clearing the site today."

Casto proposes nearly 300-unit apartment project at Crescent at Central Park development in Gahanna

IMG_0833.jpeg.cda6f6aa1fbff58b6da327db6f061e1b.jpeg

In 2020, the city approved rezoning, conditional use and variance applications for the development, which at the time consisted of 312 units. In 2021, the planning commission authorized final development plan and design review applications. At that point, the project's scope had been reduced to 240 units based on input from Gahanna City Council, according to city documents.

Since the project's scope and boundaries have changed, most of Casto's applications need to be re-approved by the planning commission.

The total 112-acre site, led by master developer Loreto "Larry" Canini of Canini & Associates, is seeing an influx of medical office users. Caldwell said Casto believes additional housing could support the influx of jobs coming to the Crescent area.

"There's been multiple office buildings popping up and more are coming, so we thought it was a great site and a great opportunity that fits a need for Gahanna," he said.

We believe this area can support housing, so we decided to cut almost 100 units from our original proposal.

Judge dismisses disputed land case in Gahanna

"A Franklin County judge has sided with the city of Gahanna over a land dispute in which residents’ objections and legal action were thwarted after City Attorney Ray Mularski settled the case with a developer. “The court concludes that (City Attorney Ray Mularski) had the legal authority to enter into the settlement, plaintiffs are pursuing this action for their own benefit and do not have standing and that the settlement was made in good faith,” Franklin County Common Pleas Court Judge Mark Serrott, wrote June 21 in a 12-page opinion to dismiss the case.

Academy Development had filed plans five years ago for shops and businesses at the southwest corner of North Hamilton and Beecher roads in Gahanna.

Serrott also noted that case law involving similar taxpayer objections must involve the public good and not just their “personal property interests.” He noted that the homeowners threatened to sue only when the trees, which were a buffer to their homes, began to come down.

In a written statement, the city praised the ruling to dismiss the homeowners’ case. “The city of Gahanna is pleased that the court agreed our city attorney has the authority to resolve cases that could otherwise cost Gahanna taxpayers millions of dollars. The city attorney made the right decision to resolve a pending action and a threatened lawsuit to protect the best interests of all our taxpayers, while also making every effort to protect neighborhoods and property values."

Upscale Apartment Complex Planned for Gahanna

As Columbus suburb Gahanna continues to evolve, one question lingers: What’s next for the city’s residential landscape?

Enter Elliot Parc.

It’s a 252-unit upscale apartment complex, situated on Morse Road east of Hamilton Road in Gahanna. While there’s no set address yet, it’ll likely be in the 5300 block.

Elliot Parc will feature a blend of suburban charm with upscale amenities, said Adam Trautner, vice president of The Stonehenge Company, the site’s developer.

Gahanna's Crescent at Central Park development gaining more housing, medical offices

More housing and medical offices are coming to Gahanna's Crescent at Central Park development after city council authorized a revised agreement with the development team.

At a meeting last week, Gahanna City Council voted to approve changes to an original agreement with CP Crescent LLC, which is tied to Casto, and Crescent at Central Park LLC, which is led by Andre Buckles. The agreement allows for expanded medical office and residential use, as well as reduced commercial space within the development site.

“The Crescent at Central Park is a significant economic project for our city," Gahanna Mayor Laurie Jadwin said. "Including modern housing within this growing modern medical campus ensures a balanced economic development approach that will add both quality job opportunities to the economy as well as needed housing solutions to address and support workforce needs.”

That is going to be one MASSIVE high school!!  Why didn't Gahanna ever consider splitting into two schools?  Gahanna Lincoln and Gahanna Jefferson just seems too easy to do.  There is not a lot of opportunity for kids to actually make a team, play and be active in sports at Gahanna.  Very limited opportunity!!

Splitting schools was the thing to do around here since at least the '90s. But lately there has been a resurgence of interest in the Big School.

Pure rumor mill, but I’ve been told they don’t want to split because the split would likely be a divide of economic status. So to avoid that, they keep one.

^I get that. When Dublin Scioto and Worthington Kilbourne were opened they were looked down on by Coffman and Thomas Worthington since a lot of those students lived in Columbus.

Ahhhhhh...So at the expense of offending people...they drastically hurt the kids instead, because attending Gahanna in this form, it hurts their opportunity to participate in extra curricular activities...BIG TIME!!  Makes total sense...don't worry about the kids being impacted...worry about the offended parents isntead.  Got it.

edit...i've been to GLHS a million times and i can say this with certainty...it needs split. Period!

Edited by OhioFinest

If Gahanna had two high schools they'd both be Division II. This is why they don't split. Considering their district boundaries are nearly built out, they'll never be a Westerville, Dublin, Hilliard or Olentangy. They'll remain as a large Division I school like Upper Arlington and New Albany.

I mean, it doesn't just affect the parents. Kids are aware of class/socioeconomic difference as well. Having grown up in Pickerington, North and Central definitely had a rivalry, and Central was seen as the ghetto school whereas North was the wealthy/uppity one. In my experience, don't recall there being too many problems though considering they were 3 miles apart (and that's a distance for a teenager!) but being side-by-side I could definitely see it more possible.

When I was in high school, Pick North literally themed the Pick North/Central football game “Must Be the Money” and had dollar signs on all their clothes and fake Monopoly money thrown around.

This decision is most definitely simply not to address offended parents. It’s to address inequity.

If that's the concern, they could just follow the Reynoldsburg route. Have two high school buildings, but only one "school" when it comes to sports. The two schools are almost identical in enrollment, but Reynoldsburg is split between two campuses.

Also, even if Gahanna split, they would only drop to D2 in football. Both Gahanna schools would remain in D1 in every other sport.

Mountain bike trail planned in Gahanna

"The trail is expected to open at Academy Park, located at 1201 Cherry Bottom Road, later this year, according to a Gahanna spokesperson who said the city is reviewing the location’s permit. The city anticipates construction will start this summer.

The multi-directional trail is 2.8 miles long with five raised, wooden structures throughout designed for mountain biking. The structures feature small hills and paths in a zigzag for bikers. The structures range from 31 feet to 57 feet long, and are raised 1-2 feet off the ground. Updates to the park will also provide users a dedicated location to “prepare for their ride, rest and rehydrate,” according to a city ordinance.

Gahanna also has a 10-foot multiuse trail in the works. The “Link to Literacy” trail will connect North Hamilton Road near Gahanna Lincoln High School to the Columbus Metropolitan Library’s Gahanna Branch and the Creekside District, where there are existing trails."

Interesting - they're using tilt up precast panels similar to warehouse construction. I can't think of anything clever to say about about warehousing students....

Worthington's high school looks so much better.

Medical expansion drives Gahanna's Crescent project as doctors seek proximity to Intel

Years in the making, the 112-acre mixed-use Crescent at Central Park development in Gahanna at the southeast intersection of Hamilton Road and Interstate 270 is taking clear shape with a large lineup of medical offices, soon to be followed by apartments, retail and a gas station.

In the past few years, several medical buildings have opened including Central Ohio Urology, Walnut Creek Wellness Center, Walnut Creek Surgical Suites, and a multi-tenant office medical office building.

Today, construction is well underway on two more medical buildings.

Canini also expects to break ground soon on an 11,000-square-foot medical building for a tenant he can't identify yet.

Casto has started turning ground for the residential portion of Crescent: the 294-unit Crescent Woods Apartments. The development will include one- and two-bedroom garden apartments and two- and three-bedroom townhomes.

Canini said he also expects a 15,000-square-foot retail center to be built near the corner of Hamilton and Tech Center. Sheetz has also submitted plans to the city for a gas station at Tech Center Drive and Hamilton Road.

Historic Resch's Bakery opening Gahanna store, production facility

"A Columbus baking institution has a big expansion planned.

Resch’s Bakery at 4061 E. Livingston Ave. has signed a lease for a new location at 150 N. Hamilton Road in Gahanna.

That almost 12,000-square-foot space will become the primary production space for the 112-year-old family-owned business. It’ll have an expansive store there as well.

Frank X. Resch said the family isn’t abandoning the Livingston Avenue space where it has operated for decades. Though most of the production will be moving, they plan to maintain a store there stocked with all the bakery’s favorites including donuts, cakes, pastries and cookies.

Details are still being worked out, but Resch said they expect to open the Gahanna space by Easter."

Avenue Partners proposes 182-unit apartment complex in Gahanna

A local developer is proposing a new apartment complex in Gahanna.

Avenue Partners submitted a development plan for the project at the intersection of West Johnstown and James roads. It was recently presented to the Gahanna Planning Commission, though no action was taken because it was a workshop and not a formal meeting.

Dubbed Johnstown Road Apartments, the 6.4-acre development would include 182 units spread across seven buildings. A total of 116 units are one bedroom, and the remaining 66 are two bedroom.

Gahanna’s Mountain Bike Trail Slated to Open Next Month

Any Central Ohioans who want to embrace the upcoming fall weather should take note: Gahanna’s Mountain Bike Trail at Academy Park is scheduled to open in October, just in time to enjoy the crisp weather before it gets too chilly.

The new trail will feature a beginner-friendly design, making it perfect for newcomers to the sport.

“We’re creating a trail that’s accessible to riders of all skill levels,” Gahanna’s Director of Parks and Recreation, Stephania Ferrell, said. “We’re also planning a trailhead with facilities for starting rides and offering educational programs to introduce new riders to the sport. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers

I heard about this project a few months back, and was kind of wondering what to expect since it wasn't spearheaded by the usual groups (COMBO - Central Ohio Mountain Bike Organization). It's been my experience that mountain bike trails not built by mountain bike groups aren't always all that great...

In this case, really glad to see this was designed by American Ramp. They did the design for  Nighthawk Bike Park at Nagel Middle School in Cincinnati, and it's a pretty cool place. Nice and fun skills course, mixed natural surface and made-man obstacles- great for both beginners and established riders. This should be a lot of fun, and a great next step for those outgrowing Gators in Worthington.

City of Gahanna in final negotiations with developer for Creekside project

The city of Gahanna is ready to move forward with its Creekside project nearly two years after its nonprofit development group acquired a host of properties within the district.

Gahanna Mayor Laurie Jadwin said the city is in the final stages of negotiations with a developer that will transform a portion of the Creekside District into a mixed-use development with retail, restaurants and apartments. Jadwin declined to name the developer until the agreement is finalized, but said it is a local company.

As part of the agreement, the Gahanna Community Improvement Corporation will transfer six Mill Street parcels to the developer. Gahanna City Council is expected to consider the agreement before the end of the year.

"We're very excited about where we are in the process and what lies ahead for that area," Jadwin said.

Creekside, Crescent at Central Park, municipal complex among projects to watch in Gahanna

New medical offices, housing, commercial space and upgraded municipal facilities are coming to Gahanna.

Columbus Business First recently spoke with Gahanna Mayor Laurie Jadwin about these community and economic development projects, which are creating new jobs, adding amenities, streamlining city services and, in some cases, transforming entire areas of the city.

Gahanna Municipal Complex

Down the road from the Burns & Scalo's headquarters is a new city services building that is under construction at 825 Tech Center Dr. Slated to be completed in late 2025 and operational in 2026, it will bring the police department, city hall and senior center into one building measuring roughly 130,000 square feet.

The property was the former Everest Institute campus, which the city is expanding with an auxiliary building that will serve as training space for the police department. Jadwin said the project is "on time and on budget."

Gahanna Planning Commission OKs 159-unit apartment complex on West Johnstown Road

"As central Ohio grapples with a housing shortage, Gahanna is adding 159 apartment units to the city's west side.

Columbus-based real estate developer Avenue Partners will build an apartment complex on 6.5 acres at 175 W. Johnstown Road after the plans were approved Dec. 18 by the Gahanna Planning Commission.

Plans show the complex will have seven three-story apartment buildings, with a mix of one- and two-bedroom units.

The property was listed as owned by Access LLC and was a former medical office and clinic buildings site located where the south end of Old Ridenour Road ends in a T intersection with West Johnstown Road, a block off U.S. 62 (Granville Street) and across the road from a United Dairy Farmers store."
