Posted May 15, 200718 yr Why isn't this being discussed yet? This is great news. Finally another use for the stadium for one day. From WCPN: Cleveland is the Home of the Patriot Bowl Associated Press CLEVELAND, OHIO 2007-05-10 CLEVELAND (AP) - Army will play Akron on September first at Cleveland Browns Stadium in a game the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission has dubbed the Patriot Bowl. The commission plans for the Patriot Bowl to be an annual event featuring a Mid-American Conference school from Ohio playing against Army, Navy or Air Force during Labor Day weekend at Cleveland Browns Stadium. The game will be the season opener for both teams. Army beat Akron 20-to-nothing the last time they met in 2005 and the Cadets lead the series three-oh. May 15, 200718 yr Yeah...this is a really cool idea. Especially if there is something like Air Force/Toledo matchup in the future. It could get televised on ESPN2 or the like.
May 15, 200718 yr this is the season opener for both teams right? great idea. why not? i wish they would bring notre dame back for a home game in cleveland again too.
May 16, 200718 yr And the real game will be the flag football game between CPD and CFD before the actual game. We are so gonna kick the cops ass in that one!!!
July 7, 200717 yr I can't wait for this game. Obviously, I'm a Zips fan, and I'm glad Akron is the first MAC team chosen for this. It is considered a home game for Akron, as it should be. We should travel pretty well to this game  I haven't started my research on Army yet, but they beat Akron 2 years ago at the Rubber Bowl. For 2007, Akron will have a great Defense back, but will be very green on offense. We have a new QB and OL and our star receiver quit school!? Special teams are a big :wtf:. It will be a tune up game for OSU the following week. Granted, this game isn't a Big Ten match up, but for anyone who hasn't watched MAC football, this would be a good game to give it a try. I used to have season tickets to Michigan and gave them up for the Zips. I think the games are more fun to watch because of the unique offenses....Urban Meyer got his start at BG! Come on down, watch the game, tickets to the Zips are CHEAP! (I paid $5 more for my Akron season tickets than for one ticket to the OSU game!) Go Zips!
July 9, 200717 yr There has to be more use of Cleveland Browns Stadium than there is now! The more creative, the better.
July 10, 200717 yr There has to be more use of Cleveland Browns Stadium than there is now! The more creative, the better. like.....playing a football game inside of it?
August 29, 200717 yr www.patriotbowl.com EDIT I noticed how this inaugural event isn't anywhere on the Cleveland plus or travel Cleveland's website. My understand is "Cleveland plus" is supposed to be depository for all events (regardless of category) in the region. The ropes are unraveling already! I blame management!
August 29, 200717 yr It was in an email newsletter I received yesterday from the Cleveland Visitors Bureau. And it had Cleveland+ all over it. But you're right. I would have forgotten all about it if it weren't for the newsletter.
August 30, 200717 yr i would have forgotten about it, had i not replied to this thread back in day, and hit "see replies to my posts" today. great job cleveland media et al.
