Walked through the Black Music Hall of Fame. It's overall a nice addition to the banks. I just hope they can properly maintain all the cool interactive features. Each stand plays music from the artist

As anticipated, it was a little cramped. I could tell there were a lot of people without a decent view (normal I suppose?). We managed to land a good spot right at the start of the hill. I think the v

^And just before Ghostbusters 3 starts filming.  What a shame.

I believe the Cincinnati Parks also will benefit from revenue from the lease agreement of the retaurant or something like that. Someone else on here probably knows better than I.

Anyone parking in Lot D today got this left under their car windshield wipers:

March 22, 210

To better serve all of our Lot D customers, we wanted to share with you some information regarding construction taking place in the lot.

As you may be aware, Mehring Way is being realigned. This realignment is beginning to take place.

On the back of this flyer, please see the map of the final configuration. This will effectively split the lot into northern and southern portions. We will be closing the existing Lot D west entrance and opening a new entrance off of Elm Street. The new Elm Street entrance will access the northern portion and is scheduled to be open by April 2.

The exisiting Lot D east entrance will remain in operation and serve as the access to the southern portion of Lot D.

Please contact  Central Parking System with any questions at (513) 946-8100. Thank you for your patronage.

Drove by today.  I didn't realize that parking garage was going to be built up as high as it is.  It's still great to se the progress and NOT see a giant gaping hole with mud and grass.  Any news on the height of the future office tower? or the tenant? probably to early to tell.

^ I believe it has a maximum height...of perhaps 15 stories?

I managed to get one shot of the banks, but I was quite impressed with the progress so far.  Anybody know the height of this garage? It looks like at least another level is planned.

Another level and another flagpole.

Another level and another flagpole.

Will that put it over the top of QCT?

Great progress!

Yes, but not Carew...

Great progress!

I couldn't get shots but almost the whole pit has garage levels built. Maybe only 1/8 of it left to build. Plus more than half of the whole site is at street level. I was impressed with the progress.

^^ Oh, snap.

One thing I'm concerned about is how inviting the park will look from the north. Where does the parking garage face (I'm guessing the north), and how visible is it going to be for the length of that side?

One of the crappy things about Newport on the Levee is how it's so uninviting from the surrounding area. I know the Banks will be contiguous with the rest of the city, so my only concern is...do you have to walk past a butt ugly parking garage to access the park from the north?

Also, with the change in elevation, how is bicycle access going to work when heading in from the north, or out from the south? Will bikes share handicapped ramps? Will there be a massive ramp to pedal to the top of?

I hope all the stairs in the park have ridges to walk your bicycle up/down the stairs (or at least a flat strip). I don't think I've ever seen those in Cincinnati. But for somewhere with a bike center, or whatever they call it, it seems like a fairly important feature.

For example:

No, the above-ground parking garages will be at the center of blocks and completely surrounded by apartments.  I think temporarily the garages at the center will be visible if a particular part of a block has not been developed.

Why would you walk your bike up or down a staircase when there are various thinly traveled roads nearby?

I think what everyone is seeing in the pic above is the first level of human space.  These are the store fronts, etc.  You can't see the above ground parking in this perspective.  To the left if you go down Main toward the river see the entrance ramps to the garages in the interior portions.

Yes Hash you're right.  Those are the first visible areas of store fronts and the apartments will be on top of that.  Don't worry people because the parking garage will be completely covered;)

You might be meeting friends who don't have bikes and have to walk yours.

Does the bike center have a repair facility? If your bike is in need of repair, you likely won't be riding it.

If you're at the upper-level, near the top of the stairs (for whatever reason), and you want to go to the lager house or something at the lower-level, mounting the bike and riding around the block seems silly.

There are lots of reasons people will want to walk their bikes around the park.

Is anyone else slightly concerned they haven't announced a single tenant? (Moerlein is a tenant of the CRP, not the Banks)

natininja, the bike facility will include showers, lockers and a place to repair your bike. Simple fixes, like flats.

Not really... I expect the units to fill somewhat slowly at first, but to pick up once there is something of a "critical mass" reached.  The space will fill very quickly after the neighborhood gains some residents and wins over the stadium-goers... many of whom probably don't realize how far along the construction is.

^^^With above ground construction moving at a very quick pace, I too would like to hear at least one tenant announcement.

I'm thinking a wiremobile to NKY might be in order.

Or one of those vacuum tubes like they have at the bank.

As long as the Riverfront Transit Center offers free transfers between the Wiremobile, Streetcar, Metro, Eastern Corridor rail, and Aerial Tram.

^Don't forget the tunnel under GAB to NOTL!

^^Or the Boondoggle Museum!

>If your bike is in need of repair, you likely won't be riding it.

What exactly are all these repairs that folks are anticipating? I have never needed a repair that rendered a bike unrideable. I ride thousands of miles each year, and haven't had a flat since the presidency of George H.W. Bush.

I had a flat with one bike when I was out and about and had to walk it home (luckily not that far, but maybe 15-20 minutes of walking). I left it for a couple days, figuring I'd get to it eventually, since I had another bike. Then I got a flat with the other bike. Had to fix two flats.

Luckily no trouble with flats since then, but a few months ago I was out with some friends and one of them got a flat. We had to walk about 45 minutes to an hour to get back to her apartment.

It happens.

You don't carry an extra tube and a frame pump or CO2 with you?  With the way the roads are around here it's silly not to.  The worst I can see happening is your chain breaking, which just means you'll have to Fred Flinstone your way home.  A gashed tire (like from hitting a big rock or a sharp metal strap or something) can usually be remedied temporarily with a candy bar wrapper to keep your replacement tube from squeezing out.  A broken spoke or two usually won't be an immediate problem either if you open up the brakes a bit and tie the busted spokes to their neighbors with a piece of tape or a twist tie so they don't flop around.

>You don't carry an extra tube and a frame pump or CO2 with you?

No.  I literally haven't had a flat tire since I was like 13.  I go on 50+ mile rides all the time, even over 100 with no repair equipment whatsoever.

A nifty overview of the CRP progress. At the 1:47, the Project Manager mentions a hotel!? Did he misspoke? I didn't think a hotel was in the first phrase.

What Progress! Spring 2010 Cincinnati Riverfront Park Construction Update

Great progress.  I think his hotel reference is about the future hotel which isn't under construction yet.

Only on extra long trips. I find it a hassle to switch the stuff in and out of my bag.

When do you guys think they'll start signing leases for the apartments going in @ Phase I?

Yeah, unless you ride on the sidewalk, you are bound to get a flat at some point in this city. I've racked up probably 10 flats in 2 years, mostly on major thoroughfares. It'd be nice to have a repair center, but everyone should carry at least either a tiny CO2 cartridge or a small pump (you can affix it to the frame). A miniature patch kit and tube... Cheap and will save you in the long-run.

Walking the site today... Duke Energy is onsite to install a transformer in the underground vault on West side of Walnut past Freedom Way, and a sidewalk concrete pour on the East side.

Vertical construction going up now on the southern block.  They also did a big pour today of the eastern portion of the "event lawn" for CRP.

It should be a great day for Cincinnati to see the progress down at The Banks and QCS!

Was anybody down there for the Reds game today and overhear any comments about the Banks?  I'm curious as to whether people who don't come downtown often made any statements about it.

I wasn't in that vicinity, but I was in OTR at a little shindig at 14th and republic, and I got flicked off by some white suburbanites because I honked my horn at something totally unrelated to them.

Sorry, that was entirely irrelevant but I had to say it somewhere.

LOL Civvik it's ok. Those people obviously have never been to the east coast haha.  They'd get chewed up and spit out by those drivers;)

Yes, I went.  The group I was with are not urbies at all and they had no idea what it was. :/

I was down there too. Didn't hear anything, but it was right there in your face ... it's massive when you're on the street level.

I got a question. This may sound stupid because I haven't been following this thread for long but:  Isn't the banks going to consist of all of the area between PBS and GABP? I only see contruction on the GABP side.  From the looks of things this was the worst side for development.  So were they just getting this side (site) prep for development and then they were going to prep the other side? I'm sure these are going to be built in phases.

4537035986_4dc5174a0d.jpg

explain worst? - it is the closest to the core core of dt. and that I'm pretty sure the Reds don't have as much control as the Bengals over development near their stadiums.

Not to mention that the green area in your pic was the dirty sandpit formerly occupied by Riverfront Stadium and the red & orange areas are parking lots...

lol.  did you take the time to draw those lines in that picture when you could have just googled the project and found out that the project has phases and this is why the western part is not yet under construction.
