I think east to west was the right call.  81 Reds games vs. 10 Bengals games.  Extending the park from the Public landing west instead of building it from the gravel factory east. Streetcar connection on the east side, not the west.

Walked through the Black Music Hall of Fame. It's overall a nice addition to the banks. I just hope they can properly maintain all the cool interactive features. Each stand plays music from the artist

As anticipated, it was a little cramped. I could tell there were a lot of people without a decent view (normal I suppose?). We managed to land a good spot right at the start of the hill. I think the v

Also, the West side of the riverfront has at least some utility in its current form as parking lots.  The East side was a muddy hole.  Better to fill up the muddy hole first.

^ I believe the correct term is "dirty sandpit".

explain worst? - it is the closest to the core core of dt. and that I'm pretty sure the Reds don't have as much control as the Bengals over development near their stadiums.

Ok, that area where they are building things looked like a giant empty lot nor too long ago. It was an eyesore and it's a good thing they are building on it.

lol. did you take the time to draw those lines in that picture when you could have just googled the project and found out that the project has phases and this is why the western part is not yet under construction.

The lines were not hard to draw, but I wanted to use this picture instead of something else because this is what it actually looks like now.

P.S. My SN came from a picture I saw in the GAT@ QCS thread when they were first building it. The site looked like one giant "dirty sand pit", with all the trucks and stuff. Just reminded me of when I was kid.

You're a funny guy Sandpit;)

Banks developers unveil new brand, websites

Business Courier of Cincinnati

The developers behind The Banks project on Cincinnati’s riverfront on Tuesday unveiled a new website, new images of what the first phase of the project will look like and a new branding and marketing campaign.

The new campaign centers around the tagline “It’s happening on the river,” and it includes a new logo, marketing materials and an overall brand identity. It’s all unveiled on the project’s new website, which was developed by Strata G Communications, according to a news release by the project’s master development team of Carter and the Dawson Co.

^ That deck under the headline doesn't make sense. "Expanded runways, less noise and $58.6M in modifications envisioned over next 20 years "

Is that a reference to Lunken Airport?

Haha, thanks. I totally ripped the formatting from the Lunken thread. You caught me! ;-)

Strata G Communications is a little behind the times on their "Did You Know?" box on the Office page of the site. It States:

"Downtown Cincinnati is home to more than 85,000 workers and 10 Fortune 500 companies, including Proctor & Gamble, Kroger, Federated Department Stores, Cinergy and American Financial."

"It's just fate, as usual, keeping its bargain and screwing us in the fine print..." - John Crichton

And why the hell didn't they Tweet that their new website was up an running?

Haha... Federated and Cinergy

and I tweeted it! lol. So did UrbanCincy

lol, yea, that's how I heard about it. You'd think though that they would beat the Courier and the rest of us to the punch!

Yeah... so much for the new marketing campaign... lol. It's already being so effective!

they spelled Procter wrong also

You spelled Proctor wrong.

I love the stand-in tenants pictured in the new renderings.  I can't wait to get a burrito from Chipelto.  Hopefully they open next to the Barnes & Others bookstore.

Unfortunately the architecture's looking really, really bad. As bad as I could have envisioned.

I was hoping for at least Atlantic Station. The original red brick renderings from the 90's were so gorgeous. Cincinnati is NOT a beige brick city.

Man, that really sucks.  :(

Wow up until now I didn't mind the renderings but those look like a bunch of bland low end suburban apartment buildings all in a row

I'll say it here: The Streets of West Chester look better than this.

The Banks may be a much welcomed investment, but I'm not pleased with the architecture.

I am also really disappointed with the architecture, but am holding out hope that it will look better once it's actually built.  I think simply changing the color of the brick to red, and making the balconies black would make the development look much better.  At least they have large windows on the ground floor and sidewalk seating.  I hope the stores and restaurants will be allowed to personalize their spaces, adding a little bit of variety to the monotonous design of gray bricks.

No they don't but its a pretty low bar to clear.

I always thought that for a suburban development, it looked decent.

Very easy and relatively cheap solutions and it's not too late.  Somebody with clout should e-mail the developer.

I hope the building materials come on better than the Gateway Condos at Central Parkway and Vine! The red brick has obvious bulges and portions have been replaced; the glued-on tiles have popped off numerous times; and the paneling looks distressed in areas :(

Let's stop talking about it before I start weeping

I heard we are getting a Chipelto to The Banks!

I heard we are getting a Chipelto to The Banks!

I know, I'm stoked!  lol  They're also getting a Cantini Redelo...I don't really get why they put that one in there.  It's not like many people in Cincy would recognize the Cantina Laredo logo.  The only location is at Polaris in Columbus.

Often those who do renderings copy/ modify restaurant names for subtle name recognition, for ease of constructing the actual rendering, or this can be a teaser of a possible (signed) tenant.  While very few could recognize the Cantina Laredo name, using the real name would open a floodgate for possible lawsuits.

I bet if an H&M went in down there, people on both sides of the river would be going nuts because they wouldn't have to drive to Kenwood.

How awesome would it be if we took Smitty's and transplanted them down to The Banks or next to Park+Vine? Just glitter the building with a thousand new lights!

Ditto for an Apple Store.

^but what would be reeeeeaaaaaalllly cool would be an FAO Schwarz.  The one in Chicago is awesome and I know it would bring an influx of parents and children down there.

^ I thought that whole chain went bankrupt recently. Regardless, they usually stick to premium shopping streets such as Chicago's Michigan Avenue, NYC's Fifth Avenue, and Boston's Newbury Street. Nothing in Cincinnati really compares to those locales.

Newbury street is my favorite out of those.  The outdoor cafes littered the street.  Too bad they took out the Virgin Records:( anyways having a bookstore, grocery, or a big movie rental joint would be great.

^I don't think you'll see any movie rental place move in downtown...or anywhere.

^^Movie rental chains are dying. I could see a Redbox or a Blockbuster Express somewhere in the area though. I'm sure these apartments will be wired for CinBell's FiOptics. Then all you need is an AppleTV, XBox w/streaming Netflix or Zune Marketplace, etc.

The Public Library has a pretty incredible movie rental selection as well.

^True. And it'll be a quick ride there via the Streetcar!

Feel free to add one, I tried and it is well beyond my photoshop capabilities (Also I don't even own photoshop, I have some free program called GIMP)

Why the hell is the City of Cincinnati so hell bent on having one of these ridiculous things in it's limits.    I really hate the street-car idea.

Perhaps if you ventured beyond the Projects and Construction section of UrbanOhio, you would be better informed.  Care to elaborate what exactly you don't like about the streetcar?

Here is 349 webpages and blog posts, 176 pages of studies and reports, 54 mintues and 17 seconds of video, and an hour of audio on why the streetcar is a good investment.

Gotta catch the 4:50 on the Ezzard Charles streetcar line so I can make it to the 5:30 commuter E-line to Sharonville, where I can jump on the 6:30 3C line to Dayton. I hope to be home by 10:00 :D

oh no, dirty sandpit is starting to venture out of the queen city square thread.  get ready....it's about to get frustrating.

You mean he's not sandboxed in here? :D
